After over 3 weeks of refitting our sailboat it's Launch Day. We still have a few things to do like installing our rebuilt rudder. This was by far the most exciting day although very stressful. And as we put the sailboat in Lake Erie water started coming in from the prop shaft packing. Quick lift us back up to fix this. Check out our other videos to see everything that we worked on. #liveaboard #wildlyintrepid #sailboatlaunch Want to know how we did it? I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

This #Forney Easy Welder is better than I expected, very easy to use and gets good metal penetration with only 120-volt wall plug. I was really light so it would be easy to move and with the ability to weld 3/16 metal can handle some moderate jobs. 2 Year Review Forney Flux Core Welder, 120-Volt,: https://youtu.be/cjsrk6nJidk This would work well for personal welding or in a muffler shop where you are dealing with a lot of little metal and just a lot of tacking. I would not recommend this if you are a welding pro, the duty cycle on this is not going to be enough to do them really big jobs. Some people call it a MIG machine although it does not require shielding gas like a typical MIG machine does. It also might be referred to as a wire feed welding machine, but just understand that you cannot add gas to this machine. Forney Easy Weld machines are perfect for the beginner welder or the do it yourselfer. With these machines, you can easily turn inspiration and ideas into masterpieces. For the novice welder who has always wanted to give welding a try but may have been intimidated, these machines are designed for you. Do you have a broken lawnmower or cracked garden utensils? Are you thinking of creating metal art or building a fire pit for your backyard? If you answered yes or have different easy metalworking projects in mind, Forney Easy Weld offers two machines to get you started. The Forney Easy Weld 100 ST Stick/TIG machine and the Forney Easy Weld 125 FC flux core machine. Troubleshooting Why is my 125 FC Welder not welding correctly? 1. Wire feed tension: Check the tension on the despooler. Is it set too tight or is the wire feed tension not set correctly? 2. Wire choice: Are you using .035” wire? We recommend .030" for best performance. 3. Stickout: Is your stickout too long? Your stickout should be no more than ½”. Here's a short video on determining stickout. 4. Pull the trigger: To begin welding, pull the trigger on the MIG gun. 5. Proper grounding: The ground should not be attached to painted or coated metal. The 125 FC (ITEM 299) machine is capable of welding 1/8" steel and the plug can be 15 amps but the breaker should be 20 amps. The power cord uses a 15 amp cord. The Basics of Welding The Forney Easy Weld 125 FC comes with a ground clamp and a MIG gun. It uses .030" flux-core wire which means the flux is built into the wire and provides the shielding needed over the molten weld puddle. For thin material, set the machine to thin plate with a higher wire feed speed. For thicker material, set it on steel plate with a lower wire feed speed. Make sure the ground clamp is attached to a metal work bench or the actual metal you want to work with. When you begin to weld, make sure you’re comfortable. Always try to maintain your stick out at 3/8”. The stick out is the distance between the tip of the electrode and your workpiece. Think of welding like driving a car, the stick out is similar to controlling the following distance from the car in front of you. Remember to control the travel speed of the weld. Think of this like controlling your speed when you’re driving. Lastly, focus on the path. You want a nice and consistent weld, similar to staying in your lane when driving. The learning curve is about a half hour of practice and you’ll start to get the hang of it. The Forney Easy Weld 125 FC is a great machine for do it yourselfers, first time welders or hobbyists and it comes with a 6 month warranty. #chrisdoeswhat #dininginwithdanielle #homaidchef

In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. I also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard in a cold climate. There's an adage: Cruising is just boat maintenance in exotic locations. Yep- that's what we're dealing with this week. After last week's engine disaster we're in full problem-solving mode. We find part of the problem and Nick sets to fixing it. And then we get to play and explore in Cartagena! Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** Sailing around the world on a boat is a lot of work. Sometimes, it's more work than others. We had a stretch of about three months where it felt like we were constantly working on boat projects. Even after Starry Horizons got a lot of TLC at The Boat Works, we still had to work through some electrical gremlins with our new lithium battery install and two new issues popped up as well. The compressor on our freezer was running constantly (not good and equals lots of power use) and a relay in our shore power frequency converter had failed. It's especially frustrating when having to organize repairs gets in the way of cruising, but we managed to coordinate electricians, refrigeration techs, ordering new parts AND made our way up to Mooloolaba for a bit of fun with new friends. It's always helpful to have reminders of why we're out here and see the light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks for watching! Surprised with the features of this budget-friendly wifi router from Tenda. Our son got this for $16 off Amazon because of his internet provider wanting $200 for their wifi router. This solution with their free modem seems like a far better deal. In this video, I go over the features of this Tenda N300 Wi-Fi router, for the price it is well worth it. Is it really the last day on the hard? We still have a few sailboat projects before we can actually launch. One of which is to install our new diesel tank in the sailboat. This turns into a bit of a treasure hunt looking for parts all over the Niagara region. We also install a stainless steel bow bumper and swap some ball valves. #sailboatrefit #dieseltanksailboat #wildlyintrepid ***************************************** Want to know how we did it? It's amazing the difference that a simple white paint can make on a small house. Seems like the house is so much bigger, and also the wooden window frames popped out so much. __________________________________________________ WANT MORE? http://www.patreon.com/oddlifecrafting (Become a Patreon to get instant access to behind the scenes, extra pictures, perks, and even more) _______________________________________ Binge watch our series from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4cGhq-GjyFk0inZOrhl3IeU9SshIpp7o #shippingcontainerhouse #tinyhouse #DIY

The preserve consists of three tracts: Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park Serenova Tract Anclote River Ranch Tract The preserve is the culmination of foresight and cooperative spirit of individuals and governmental agencies working to carry forth “one man’s dream.” The park is named after Jay B. Starkey, Sr., who purchased the land in 1937 and then developed a cattle ranch and timber operation. In 1975, Mr. Starkey donated several hundred acres to the District, initiating the concept of permanently protecting the land and its resources for future generations. The Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park is a regional park managed by Pasco County that features a paved trail that connects to the 42-mile Suncoast Trail; picnic shelters; hiking, biking and equestrian trails; a primitive campground; and camping cabins. The Serenova Tract is managed by the District for passive nature-based outdoor recreation activities. This tract has limited amenities and provides visitors a more rustic outdoor experience. The tract is a favorite for horseback riding with trails that wind through all major natural communities on the preserve. Equestrian and primitive camping is also available at Serenova. The prominent natural communities within the preserve are pine woods, cypress domes, freshwater marshes, stream and lake swamps, sandhill and scrub. The 2,300 acres of wetland communities in Serenova combine with the wetlands in the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park to form a connected 6,000-acre wetland ecosystem spread throughout approximately 18,000 acres of conservation lands. Public acquisition of these lands has maintained this large wetland system as a functioning intact ecosystem. This vast network of scattered wetlands become interconnected during periods of high water levels and serves as a vital life cycle linkage for many wetland-dependent species. Like many District properties, the preserve serves as a natural buffer for one of the region’s main freshwater resources, the Pithlachascotee River. The lands protect water quality by acting as a natural filter of surface water as it flows across the landscape into the Pithlachascotee River and its main tributary, the Anclote River. The Preserve also serves as a recharge area for a regional well field operated by Tampa Bay Water that is an essential component of the multi-county water supply system that supplies drinking water to the greater Tampa Bay area. Another less visible benefit of these lands is the vital link they play in assuring that the Gulf of Mexico receives the clean fresh water that is needed to maintain the long-term health of the coastal estuaries. Without a source of clean fresh water, the estuaries could not serve as the vital link in the life cycle of numerous species of birds; aquatic plants, such as seagrass; and popular fish species, such as redfish, sea trout, and mullet.

For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

(Ep.53) We started by putting in our cabinetry doors as we finally had our hinges, unfortunately about 2-3 of our doors had warped so we have to get them re cut. Ricky & Moses cut our foamalite to make the side panels for our cabins to hide away the bolts that show through. We do a supply run. We make the panel for our diesel tank cupboard and get her primed and ready to take vinyl. Our patreon Simon came to visit us and Ricky put him to work! They started making the plugs for our hatch frames. Thanks again for the help Simon. We gave the plugs a good sand and a wax the next day and got to making our awesome hatch frames! Before the bent frames can be permanently fastened in place they need a final inspection, a coat of oil and their respective socket cleaned up and sealed. We show you how we are going through this process in this video. Also, we are launching another commemorative t-shirt campaign to help fund the costs of the upcoming systems that will need to be installed in Arabella once her hull is planked. We are also launching a newly revised logo depicting the gaff rigged Ingrid, called Stormy Petrel by Atkin. You can purchase one of these by clicking the following link: https://www.bonfire.com/acorn-to-arabella-stormy-petrel (All shirt should ship to the addresses in the continental U.S. in time for the holidays.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built.

This is the second phase of our solid surface countertop install. We're doing this project slowly phase by phase because we've got so many other projects going on as well. It's finally to the point where it's functional so that we can go in the water, liveaboard, and use our galley. It's still not that pretty yet, but it works. We go in the water in less than a month, and we've got a lot of work ahead of us including installing the new motor, reinstalling the steering pedestal, and installing our solar arch. We'll see if we can get it all done in time. Nice product to keep your devices running on the go. We have been personally using this for my phone and camera for our Explore Florida series. Depending on the battery size of the device will dictate how many charges you will get, for us this is enough to charge our camera and two Galaxy 5 phones. The more battery capacity you have with your device the less recharges you will get. Get your Solar Powered Charger: https://amzn.to/2OULwyK Probably the only this I don't like about this portable phone charger is the slow charging when plugin. It only charges at 1amp and with this capacity, that is a long time. I would like the solar charging to perform better but did not want the fold-out solar panel like some of the other PowerBanks have. More damaged boat parts so we go for a marine supply trip with a little swim stop to the awesome shipwreck of the Hermine. Brewers in Hamilton has everything we need but it hurts the wallet. We then carry on with the sailboat refit to hopefully launch soon. We swap our leaky diesel tank from an old gas tank which was given to us by a friend Jim.

***** There's a lot to explore on the east coast of Australia and we began by taking the inside passage from the Gold Coast up to Moreton Bay. This was a great way to get used to life on the water again as it had been waaaay too long since we'd properly cruised aboard Starry Horizons. Our friend Madeline came to join us once we'd arrived and we spent a few days exploring Brisbane before getting out on Moreton Bay. The weather didn't really cooperate, but we managed to get a couple good sails in and really enjoyed getting out to Tangalooma and snorkeling the wrecks. Though I think Amy was a bit more excited about finally getting some good use out of her new Drift Paddleboards! Thanks for watching! (Footage from April 2018) A huge thank you to Drift Paddleboards for partnering with us and helping us _finally_ get some paddleboards onboard Starry Horizons. https://sups.com.au/ Curious for more up to date info on where we are and what we're doing? Proceeds from this video will go to the Coral Reef Alliance, but you can also support me directly (and specifically the production of these videos) by becoming a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/theadventuresoftarka Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. I am sailing Tarka around the world in part to raise money and awareness for coral conservation by supporting the Coral Reef Alliance. You can learn more here: http://www.theadventuresoftarka.com/fundraiser or visit their website directly: http://www.coral.org If you make a donation to their website directly in Tarka's honor, please send me an e-mail copy of your receipt so I can keep track of Tarka's fundraising. You can forward to: theadventuresoftarka@gmail.com Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL (The Coral Reef Alliance) comes from contributions by: Soylent - Healthy provisioning for the long offshore passages Sta Lok - Swage-less terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it an easy DIY job and allowing for easy inspection Victron Energy - Providing monitoring solutions for Tarka's batteries, to ensure we always have enough juice to do what we need to. === Music credits: Plastic or Paper - Wes Hutchinson Wishful Thinking - Dan Lebowitz Mint Chocolate 2a - Vibe Mountain Dance With Me - Ehrling: https://soundcloud.com/ehrling
This is Part 2 of our portlights project. This time nothing is filtered and the video is normal speed, that is why it is a little too long. Since I didn't do much of editing on this video, there is some swearing, so keep that in mind when watching , lol. I go into explaining why I went with 3M VHB double face tape instead of screws for the new portlights. Also, excuse my sweating, it was very very hot with no wind at all in full Florida sun. If you want more description about products used, please see previous video. Products used: 3M 5952 VHB tape, you can find it all over the place but this was the fastest shipping for me : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BU7038A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 DOW Corning 795 black silicone, I ended up getting it from local plastic shop, since everywhere else it was taking 2.5 weeks to get it. Price difference was only about a dollar a tube. Ended up using about a quarter of tube per portlight. 1/4" Cell Cast Acrylic grey sheet material. Ended up getting it from local plastic shop, seems like most plastic shops stock it for window or boat applications. Also available in thicker 3/8" but most shops I checked didn't stock it and I had to wait about 3 weeks. You can always try this supplier that was recommended to me: https://www.estreetplastics.com/Plexiglass-Grey-Smoked-3-8x24x48-p/t803752448.htm Goof Off from Local Lowes for clean up and caulking removal. Acetone for cleaning before applying 3M tape. Detail sander to remove existing caulking vs scraping by hand, a lot quicker. Sailboat: 1984 Freedom 32
