The Man With 4 Broken Ribs - He is unstoppable! My good friends Hilde and Eddy joins me in Greece to help prepare Mermaid for a new sailing season. Eddy who had been struggling thru cancer surgery a few months before had just fallen on his back and broke 4 of his ribs just 2 weeks before departure from Norway, but that didn't stop him from running around serving this and that on the boat as if he was 20! And we did have som fun too, we rented scooters and drove around the island of Aegina to explore all the sights. As the boat was a complete mess from all the ongoing projects we stayed at the Plaza Hotel in Aegina town.

Sitting around at home on self quarantine with nothing to do but surf the web, netflix, and chill. With our 1 year wedding anniversary upon us, it was perfect timing to....make our family a little larger and fool our friends and family by posting our new dinghy like you would announce a pregnancy. No, we'll leave the babies for the popular sailing channels. We have enough on our plate! Little Shark is a 1970 Boston Whaler. She's 13' long and powered by a 30 HP Mercury EFI Outboard. We did some maintenance and took "Little Shark" for a spin around Marina Del Rey, CA. The "red tide" turned into a mind-blowing light show of bio-luminescence at night. A couple days later we took Shaun's mom(and dad) around MDR for mother's days. You could tell it was already started to disappear but was still an amazing sight to see and we all really enjoyed it! With lockdown having been eased, we are now able to get out a little more and travel a little further. I`ve now been able to collect my bike, meet up with (a limited number of ) friends and family, go walking, sailing, make pasty`s and do more boat maintenance. Generally speaking this tiny additional freedom given has made such a difference to how I feel. Plus the weather has been great. Win win.

We’re Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that have bought a 44ft steel sailboat (Dinieper Tropic 1200) that was abandoned on the hard for 22 years in Guarujá, Brazil. We are on the mission of refitting her to travel the world taking our house with us! Before we found our dream boat we had another cool project: we were building our Tiny Shipping Container House by ourselves, without any prior experience to be our land base in our hometown, Florianópolis (Brazil). We have sailed north side of Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida on first day. It's located in west side of Key Biscayne and extended all the way to Elliott Key. This bay is great for day sailing. Wind was 13 to 17 mph. Wave was 2 or 3 feet. We moored the boat at the next to Miami Marine Stadium in Key Biscayne. As you see the video, there were many other boats are anchored there. This place is great anchoring or mooring place. Just be careful that the bottom is muddy and sandy so anchoring could be tricky. Smart Cat S280 is completely new concept of sailing catamaran that will blow your mind. This boat is absolutely sensational and very innovative. It's compact, low maintenance and economical. It has spacious deck and lounge area with very practical features that you can live aboard with perfect privacy. Want bass on a budget, we thump this car for $75 dollars. We take these Autotek 15-inch Subwoofers that Korbin AKA "TikTok" got for free, coupled with the BOSS AR1500M bought for $75, and shake this car. The Subwoofer Box in Korbin's car was way too small, and the holes cut in killed the sound. We have left links for all products below. This boat was purchased new from Shuswap Marina in 1994 and has been serviced and stored here by the same owners ever since then. This is a 20' bowrider with an 8'6" beam and the hybrid captain's chair/sleeper seat layout which gives a huge amount of space. The interior is in great shape, motor runs well, and exterior is quite clean aswell. There have been no major repairs on the boat or motor, but all maintenance has been well taken care. Comes on the tandem axle trailer with swing tongue which is from 2005 and comes with cockpit and bow covers. This is a great 1st time boat, or even an upgrade from an 18' boat that your family has outgrown. Check out www.shuswapmarina.com for more pics and a walkaround video!

On this episode of Sailing on a Whim, in the race to beat hurricane season, we travel on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway for the first time on our journey to prepare Whim for hurricane season. It’s a mad dash to pack up the boat, dodge storms, and complete our hurricane prep before we say a temporary goodbye to the most crucial member of our crew, Whim. This crazy adventure started in early 2018 as we started researching learning how to sail, buy a boat, outfit her, and take off for a life on the open seas. There has been a huge learning curve trying to make all of this happen and we want to share with you everything that we have learned and have some fun along the way. This round we look to the future and start doing a little rigging preparation by roughing out some deadeye blanks. We also keep chugging along with planking, the Alaskan sawmill rig gets some good use as does the 27" thickness planer. The culled cedar planks made some most excellent patterns and some more oak goes onto Arabella's hull. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. We cruise further "down east" of Maine. We start off this video as we sail through the fog in Maine’s Bass Straight. It is a tight channel with lots of current. We raced another 50 foot for hours and beat them through by a few hundred feet. We stopped and stayed the night on a mooring ball at the Hinckley Yacht Yard. It was a very welcoming place. The people there were great. It was almost like walking into history as it is home of the iconic Hinckley Southwester. There is no longer yacht production at this facility, but they still do maintenance and refits. This was the week of Melges 24 friends. Kate and I used to race these boats before we got the larger J Boat for cruising. We had some friends from Michigan take us for an amazing climb up the precipice trail in Acadia Bational Park on Mt Desert Island. Later our friends from Ohio drove out to join us for a sail down east. Our new Rocna anchor arrived at Hinckley and Nate helped us install it. After that we left the dock and went sailing into the cold and Rainey ford of Maine. We see lobster boats, snag a few pots, sail down the only fjord on the east coast, and visit the mile-long sandy beach of Roque Island. Before we set off, our friends Nate and Diane, help us install our new Rocna anchor at Hinkley Yachts in Southwest Harbor of Mount Desert Island. We hike the Precipice Trail and then head to Bar Harbor for pizza and drinks with our friends Thomas and Kristin, who share fresh vegetables with us from their garden. Interested in more information about our anchor? Curtis wrote a fabulous blog where you can read more about it! Here is the link: https://sweetruca.com/our-anchoring-setup/ So just who is “Sailing Sweet Ruca” anyway? We were inspired by the original sailing you tubers like Sailing Delos, Sailing La Vagabonde, Gone with the Wynns, and even some of the newer sailing channels like Sailing Soulianus and Sailing Nahoa among others. We were already racing sailors but we wanted to get out and cruise, with a goal to sail around the world via the capes (the hard way). We are Curtis and Kate, along with our sailing dog Roxy! After spending over a $1000 on solar panels they are not working. Bummed out we decide to go exploring Beaufort, South Carolina instead. The architecture and trees really make us feel like we are getting more South on the ICW, even our little dinghy adventure. Then we stumble onto a nice free dock and explore a scary island. It feels as if it was abandoned. This is when we installed our semi-flexible solar panels https://youtu.be/3XPRVjblPvs 1:11 Exploring Beaufort, SC 4:12 Semi-Flexible solar panels not working 10:20 Dinghy adventure in Beaufort, South Carolina 12:58 More exploration of Beaufort, South Carolina by foot 14:40 Daufuskie island the creepy island If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailing #solarpanelnotworking #livingonasailboat ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron or donating. Yess we are doing a GIVEAWAY!! Win a full week on board of Messenger for 2 persons. check the details in/under Vlog 25 In this video Today we have a Do It Yourself Day. When you sail around the world working on your boat is just a part of the game. Marjolein get's some sewing work done, and Hermen works on his foil again. Our story On the 17th of April 2020 we left marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtDOpi7ydzdcRK1H7fEiQFQ . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met. We cooperated with OM to visit their projects and film them on our way. Since 19 of March we started with a daily vlog due to the corona situation. We plan to keep doing this the coming months. After leaving Florida and sailing in very heavy seas, lightning was the feature of this leg to Boston, especially the first night. Lightning is always a bit concerning for our computers and navigation electronics, especially when alone on the ocean with a 90 ft mast. We put our computers, phones, VHF etc in the microwave, which acts as a Faraday cage to protect them. The seas were rough past Delaware Bay, and then we had upwind sailing as we passed Long Island Sound at night. Lots of boat traffic passing Long Island Sound! We stopped briefly in Montauk for fuel and with good wind and the afternoon not yet gone, we decided to carry on. We sailed into Buzzards Bay and dropped anchor near Cutty Hunk to the sound of a loon. The hauntingly beautiful sound of a loon at night is reminiscent of childhood summers on Stoney Lake in Ontario, Canada. The next morning, we motored through the Cape Code Canal with a 6 knot current pushing us ahead. On exiting the canal we put up the Gennaker and sailed to Boston in light wind. As we entered Boston Harbor, the COVID-19 stillness of the city was not evident from the sea, and the city was as beautiful as always. We have a place at a dock in Charlestown marina, and will be sailing around Cape Cod and the Islands this summer. *Music by Epidemic Sound* A Bitter Love by Sven Karlsson (Intro music) Dearest Friend SPf 80 by Alexandria Woodward Silent Dawn by Christophe Gorman Little Sailor by Leimoti Royal Chaos by 91nova Svalbard – Julyan Bryan Weather any storm by Cody Francis for coming into Boston Lost in Atlantis – by Smartface (end music) *Music by Epidemic Sound* A Bitter Love by Sven Karlsson (Intro music) Dearest Friend SPf 80 by Alexandria Woodward Silent Dawn by Christophe Gorman Little Sailor by Leimoti Royal Chaos by 91nova Svalbard – Julyan Bryan Weather any storm by Cody Francis for coming into Boston Lost in Atlantis – by Smartface (end music) *Web site*: http://www.biotrek-sailing.com *Boat tours* Ep. 1. Hello everybody, we are happy to be back and sorry that we abruptly stopped vlogs. This video will explain why and will also explain why I (Dan) will step in doing the vlogs for a while as Georgia normally does a lot of them. I will be trying to do weekly vlogs but at least two a month to begin with but Georgia will hopefully be back soon anyway when she is feeling ready. I've been trying to keep busy with gardening and boat maintenance like repacking the stern gland. I hope you enjoy the vlog and sorry if it's not as well edited as the rest. Georgia's Mum unfortunately did not feature on our channel and is not the same person as her Dad's partner who appears in an earlier video because her parents divorced when she was little. In this video "What ACTUALLY happens," we fish for Conch in St Croix, then sail from Charlotte Amalie, around St Thomas and back to Megan's Bay USVI with a running deck cam (for the first time) recording everything. (We got a GoPro, can you tell?!?) In August of 2017 we sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is our YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and my partner Nawal as we navigate the globe. #diy #makingaboat #school #boatschool 00:38 Skip Intro After a tour of the boatyard, we get down to the gritty task of giving our sail boat a complete overhaul in the cheapest way possible. We do this by doing all of it ourselves with a little bit of help from our friends. During the time in the yard, a pandemic breaks out and we are locked in but we all cope pretty well by finding ways to entertain ourselves and spend most of our time working on the boat. We start work on the hull with epoxy filler, epoxy paint and anti-foul. The hull sides get polished and the toe rail gets some fibre glass repairs done. The sacrificial rubbing strip gets repaired and painted and the waterline gets raised. The main prop and the bow thruster get serviced and the rear bumper bar is repaired. We even get to replace a new speed, depth, temperature transducer and a new wind instrument with display. All the winches are serviced, the dolphin seat is varnished, the fenders are cleaned and we also get to celebrate Yewan's birthday! Built a ported subwoofer box out of scrap wood for our Skar SVR 10 powered with a JL M600 amplifier at 200 watts. The subwoofer box has a hair over 2 cubic foot with the ports. The ports stick out of the subwoofer box to give us more airspace for the Skar SVR 10. The box is 30 inches wide, 16 inches tall, and 9 inches deep, the ports are 20 inches long with 5 inches of the port outside the box. The frequency response of the box comes in at around 26 Hz and starts to fade at 90 Hz. We could feed a lot more than 200 watts to this subwoofer with the Skar SVR 10 but we think this is plenty loud and does not overpower the rest of the sound. It is really hard to get good bass in a jeep, this is why the ports point toward the corners of the jeep. Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** Sometimes you just need a break from the cruising life. After our friends left us in the Seychelles, we ended up waiting TWO MONTHS for a weather window to sail down to Madagascar. Rather than sail the same path around the islands, we elected to just enjoy marina life for a while. And we're glad we did! We got into an exercise routine, worked hard on videos and still managed to get out and explore Mahe! Renting a car for a day, we drove around the whole island, eating some delicious local delicacies, stopping at more gorgeous Seychelles beaches and watching a stunning sunset at Beau Vallon. And because we waited long enough, our friends Carlos and Linda from the boat Mirniy Okean (@22South) caught up to us after they diverted course due to a problem with their autopilot. We took them on a hike up the Capolia trail for another amazing view (watch that last step!) before finally getting a good enough weather window to head south. What a way to end up our time in the Seychelles! Thanks for watching! (Footage from Aug/Sept 2019) Curious for more up to date info on where we are and what we're doing? Easily cooking peppers in the sun. Part 2: https://youtu.be/MUg6LNc5Tik Part 3: https://youtu.be/1NgQGwCgRVQ  Now that you ask...YES, we have to wear masks at all times, even at the roof... This is part 1 of three videos showing you some peppers being cooked with the sun. Peppers are easy to cook, since they are vegetables, containing mostly water. I bet you can cook this sort of stuff twice a day, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 13:30 to 17:00 (In part 2, you'll see the peppers ready by 13:00). Meat and legumes are the hardest to cook, though in days like these, you can reach 120-130ºC between 12:00 and 15:00 and cook such things once a day. This way you can cook almost anything, every day from May until mid-late September. Even two times a day. Simple meals like this one can be cooked on less sunny days, all day long, from sunrise to sunset, but you have to realign the cookers more often and you will be able to reach only 100ish ºC. Meat and legumes will be very difficult with these. I'm yet to test it. Solar cookers: -Homemade DIY "Fun panel", by designer Teong H. We had to replace our at battery fuse holder after it fell apart in my hand. This prevents the amp wire that runs from our battery from shorting out and causing a fire in our Jeep. This video is a clip out of our longer video that we rewired our JL M600 and took the carpet out of the Jeep. In our next video we are going to improve the sound of our Skar SVR10 inch Subwoofer. In this episode we hit the lowest point yet on the build and remove the cedar planks we worked so hard to install onto Arabella. The oak pile got sorted and inventoried to see if we even have enough oak to plank Arabella with it. The replacement planks are found in the oak stores and are cut from the big slabs of timber. While sorting and plank making we find one oak board that was a little sick. Finally we take a day off from the planking battle and focus on a couple of smaller tasks that could use doing including fixing/modifying some camera gear. It was great to feel a small sense of accomplishment after all the recent set-backs. Thanks for following along! Exploring east end of Jamaica and Kingston, then sailing west to Oracabessa. After a 3-day (450nm) sail from Bahamas, we arrived into Port Antonio on the lush green coast of NE Jamaica. From our berth at the Errol Flynn Marina, we visited the town of Port Antonio and explored the eastern end of Jamaica by car. First, heading east visiting The Blue Lagoon, Reach Falls and the distinctly unpleasant The Baths (thermal springs) . The next day, we headed south-west for a long drive to Kingston, returning via the wonderful Blue Mountains with its famous coffee plantations. Oana took rather ill while in Port Antonio and Glen got on with some maintenance until she had recovered enough for us to sail onto our next anchorage, Oracabessa. We anchored in a tiny but sheltered bay and explored by dinghy and on foot. The area is famous for being the home of Ian Fleming, the writer of all things James Bond. His house was named Golden Eye and interestingly most places around had adopted the word “Golden” in their name! 24 Feb – 4 Mar 2020 Port Antonio, Reach Falls, Blue Lagoon, Kingston, Blue Mountain, Oracabessa, Goldeneye Resort

The sailing adventure continues as we keep on going to Charleston, South Carolina after a dinghy tour. If feels great walking in a t-shirt and checking out all the different architecture of Charleston and even enjoying some fish & Chips at the Griffon. We then get a surprise as we carry on the ICW. A bridge changes our plans on the Intracoastal Waterway Cruising. The sailing life is always fun when you get to share it with a buddy boat. We leave Charleston with Scott and Tobi to see more of the winding waterways and slowly make our way to Beaufort, South Carolina. We even manage to sail on the ICW and turn off our engine for a few hours. Welcome to Sailing Sweet Ruca Tech Talks, where we give you real-world, on boat information as we sail. Today, we dive in-depth into a full service to our Watermaker and show you how to do it as well. Follow along as we do it yourself (DIY). First we change the oil in the pump. Next we replace the membrane. Then we replace the sediment filter. Lastly we fire it up and test its output. The model of watermaker is a Village Marine/Parker LWM 160-200 Modular. It makes 6-7.5 gallons of water per hour, or about 150 gallons per day. While doing this it uses about 15 amps of 12V DC power. So, we can run our watermaker from our solar, wind, or battery power. The steps performed in this video will be applicable to many different water makers. Each watermaker has the same core components, but some differ just a bit in technology and electrical requirements. We make make another water maker video later comparing the different types, explaining why we chose ours, and what we wish for. Here is a little more information about our watermaker: The Little Wonder (LWM) is the watermaker of choice for the experienced sailor. The LWM comes equipped with a corrosion resistant, single piston, belt driven, low RPM high-pressure pump. Result is the most reliable, field serviceable, quiet, efficient and economical source of fresh water available in completely modular configurations with water output ranging from 145 to 180 GPD. The LWM watermakers are designed for cruising sail boats where space is limited and reliability is required. Thanks for watching. We hope we helped you! Please like and subscribe. Got my hands on free bamboo. A cup is the easiest thing to make. Furtheremore, I am in need of a cup that don't break easily in a sailboat anyway.

The 2017 FE350 gets serviced, by me, the novice. I have the time, so I like to do my own maintenance and learn a little. Plus, it saves a lot of CA$H and I find I can do more with my $ when I do my own work. In this episode of Moto Shed Sessions, I learn how to change the oil and filter on my new bike and how to check the valves. I was expecting to have to shim and adjust the valves, but I got lucky. I can probably hold off until at least 1 or 2 more checks on the valves. I may not have done everything the best (proper) way in this tutorial, but I got it done and I learned a little about my new (to me) bike along the way. Maybe someone can learn from my mistakes. Cheers! I always welcome feedback and advice; never too proud. In this video "Wall of Squalls" we finish our stay at Christmas Cove, St Thomas, then leave for a one day sail to the south for St Croix for a change of atmosphere. Due to the covid-19 / coronavirus restrictions we are currently only able to travel between the islands of the USVIs. At about the half way point (3 hours off shore) we strike an unavoidable wall of heavy squall and are forced to put in reefs. Squalls are frequent in the Caribbean so we decided to record one start to finish. Arriving in St Croix we venture into Christiansted to pick up supplies and see the town (currently on lockdown except for essentials). #sailingUSVI #caribbeanadventures #liveaboards #yorkshireterrier #dogsonboats If you like our videos and want to see more/better videos, more often you can become a patreon supporter: https://www.patreon.com/sailingbalachandra If you haven't yet SUBSCRIBED and wan to see more please click the SUBSCRIBE button above, and be sure to give this video a like! In August of 2017 we sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is our YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and my partner Nawal as we navigate the globe. All of our sailboat repair and maintenance blogs are now hosted on our dedicated maintenance channel, MOTHERSHIP MAINTENANCE Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/c/mothershipmaintenance An edited version of this video is now hosted there. In pt1 ( https://youtu.be/l8APzj_C_FA ) of this series, I dismantled and cleaned the muffler box, exhaust elbow, turbo and checked the impeller and water pump pipes. In pt2 ( https://youtu.be/tUUGm-2ctIw ), I took apart and cleaned the oil cooler. In this video - pt3 - I remove the heat exchanger/aftercooler insert, give it a clean and re-assemble everything back together.. with mixed results. Note to self - count the oil seals coming off - and count the new ones going in! When bringing the boat up from North Carolina to New York, one of our steering cables broke in New Jersey. Duke put together a MacGuyver fix in order to get the boat home with both rudders steering. Almost two years later, he finally replaced both cables and removed the temporary fix. The Gemini catamarans, of all generations, use a dual cable rotary steering helm, but because the cables steer opposite each other there is a bit of a trick to installing them properly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We can't produce quality inspirational content indefinitely without the support of our fans.
