We have picked up a preloved, unused new model and we are going to give Innerbloom her latest freshen up - installing it on anchor. We've got two days to get this installed before we shoot out for some more sailing in the Whitsundays. It’s now home to two of the seven wonders of the ancient world. And for centuries, the Ottoman Empire was the preeminent power in the Mediterranean. We're a young Aussie couple of sailors that are learning how to do it by just getting out there and doing it! Our steel 35ft Adams has allowed us to sail 800 nautical miles with only one stop in a marina! Living off the anchor and minimising costs so we can keep sailing is the ultimate goal.... but sometimes there's just no way to avoid it. A big southerly forecasted leaves us with no safe anchorage from the wind and swell...AND a failed swivel on passage results in losing our primary anchor at sea. We take advantage of our short time in the Mackay Marina before continuing our passage north up the East Coast of Queensland, Australia. We bear witness to a radio dispute between 2 vessels then have to pull ourselves away from the drama to set sail from Keswick to Mackay. There we discover why both of our bilge pumps failed on our last passage, Esky shows Josh how to perform an oil change and maintenance on our inboard, repair our headsail and all of the other tidbits that we don't get the time or grace for when we're out on the deep blue. Our heaviest passage yet…trust tough conditions to reveal to you your weakest points, emotionally and vessel(y). We passage make from Brampton to Keswick in winds 20knt gusting to 35knot, and start taking on water, rapidly.On this 2 hour passage we face our greatest challenges yet when our electric bilge pumps can’t keep up with the water ingress and emotions intensify when our manual pump fails. We conduct remote repairs and go over our steering system with a fine tooth comb, fixing some faults in necessary preventative maintenance. Cool & Bright We light up the engine bay and cool it down for next to nothing! Fed up of using torches to light the engine bay when working on or checking the engine we decided to fit a work-lamp. In the summer the engine bay can get very warm and the existing heat extract needs a boost now and then. Great in the winter as the engine heats the whole boat but in the summer the temperature can get very warm and will stay warm for hours. Working on the engine or even just doing a few checks was a pain as you had to hunt down a torch to see the dipsticks or check for leaks. We as always, wanted a cheap solution for both these issues. The fan only comes on when it is needed saving power and the light is a series of super bright LED's mounted in a work lamp giving a fantastic light with a draw of just 0.7 of an amp.
