We've been wanting to get aboard a St. Francis catamaran for a while now. They're a lesser known catamaran brand, but they build serious bluewater cruisers meant to sail the world in luxury. It seems that most of the catamarans we really like are built in South Africa, and this is no exception. There's too much good to be said about this particular boat in a video description, so you'll just have to watch the video! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Asking Price: $845,000 Contact info for broker: Jim Ross 954-646-2995 Paul's (Owner) video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vQ5q2DS_GI&t=1071s Just Catamarans: https://justcatamarans.net/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. Please leave a like and comment if you've enjoyed the video, and subscribe if you haven't already.

This week we turned our sailboat into a more energy efficient boat, so we can hopefully soon untie the lines and go off the grid. We’re Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that have bought a 44ft steel sailboat (Dinieper Tropic 1200) that was abandoned on the hard for 22 years in Guarujá, Brazil. We are on the mission of refitting her to travel the world taking our house with us! Before we found our dream boat we had another cool project: we were building our Tiny Shipping Container House by ourselves, without any prior experience to be our land base in our hometown, Florianópolis (Brazil). Are you curious to know more about it? Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and join us every MONDAY for a new episode of our journey!! Welcome to our first PODCAST episode! Stick this one in your headphones and go about your day, or indeed watch it as a video, we don't mind. We are looking forward to introducing you to a few cruising legends who we have met along the way on our voyages across the seas. What better way to kick this series off by starting with the guy who got us into cruising in the first place - Rod Waterhouse from David Bray Yachting Boat Sales. Rod and Jackson used to sail together at the Manly Skiff Club before we set off on our trip. Rod, having been one of the cruising pioneers, set off on his first passage half way around the world in the 80s and has since then done 5 trips like it. Rod is a highly accomplished and networked boat broker who's ultimate passion is getting more people out there cruising to far away places for long stints of time. He was in Jackson's ear about how easy it is to do and how flipping tremendous it is for a few years until it got to the point where Jackson thought let's give this cruising thing a go. So now here we are, 20,000 nautical miles later with the man who gave us the confidence and the know-how to do it. We simply could not keep this resource to ourselves, so were super keen to share it with you all. Ladies and gentlemen, we present you Rod Waterhouse spilling the tea on all the essentials you need to know about buying and selling boats around the world from a boat broker's perspective. We cover: -Where to buy - Europe? Caribbean? America? Australia? -When to buy -What to buy - Production? Charter? -Differences between international markets - Australia vs Europe vs Caribbean -Top five things to look for when buying a yacht -How much to budget for the boat, maintenance and living expenses -How to get the most out of your broker -Pitfalls to avoid -The monohull vs catamaran conundrum -The selling process broken down Thanks for watching/ listening guys. If you liked it, please give us a thumbs up and leave a lovely comment. We post every Sunday! So if you’d like to see us every week, why not subscribe. Atomic 4; gasoline Designer Bruce King Between 1969 and 1982, Ericson Yachts built about 600 Ericson 35 Mark IIs, a then-modern racer/cruiser designed by Bruce King to replace the original Ericson 35. Many still sail in both saltwater and freshwater locales across the continent. With her comparatively light displacement, our 1977 Ericson 35 Mark II, Mino'aka, hull number 480, fairly danced through the water. Her helm was neutral until wind speeds reached about 18 knots. Above that, she'd show some weather helm, which could be eliminated by easing the traveler or reducing sail. Once in her easy and forgiving "groove," she tracked with hardly a hand on the wheel, even in seas of 4 or 5 feet. Average sailing speeds in light Southern California conditions ranged from 4 to 6 knots. Head-turning classic lines and an original light-blue hull elicited many compliments for Mino'aka. Although she came with such factory upgrades as a teak-and-holly cabin sole, satin-varnished mahogany trim, and that unique gelcoat color, the systems were basic and maintenance demands minimal. We replaced the original (and frightening) wiring and added two new 6-volt AGM house batteries and a separate starting battery, which provided the simple electrics with ample power for a week or more of cruising off the grid. We supplemented the 25-gallon water tankage with sun showers for bathing and bottled water for drinking. The galley on the 35 Mark II, located to starboard of the companionway, is better than adequate, with plenty of storage and a cavernous icebox that, after we added closed-cell insulation to its outside, kept block ice frozen for at least five days. A roomy quarter berth to port is the most comfortable bunk on the boat. Forward of it is a full-size chart table and an electronics shelf. Amidships to port, a U-shaped seating area surrounds the removable dining table, which also converts to a double berth; the straight settee opposite can serve as another single. Storage is provided above, behind, and under the seating. Forward, a hanging locker and shelves face the enclosed head to port. For hot-water bathing on Mino'aka, we'd suspend a sun shower from a halyard above the ventilation hatch. The fine bow makes the V-berth narrow at the peak. After a particularly nasty crossing to Santa Cruz, one of California's Channel Islands, Mino'aka developed a peculiar creaking sound at anchor. We later traced it to a pulled bulkhead tab. Like other owners, we found and repaired soft areas in the deck's balsa core, particularly around the chainplates. To cure persistent leaks, we pulled all of the windows, fitted new gaskets, then rebedded them. The welded seams on the aluminum fuel tank were beginning to fail, so we replaced it with a custom stainless-steel tank. Mino'aka still had the original, well-maintained, 30-horsepower Atomic 4 gasoline engine. A true workhorse, it provided 6 to 6.5 knots in calm conditions but was a bit underpowered for motoring into wind and waves. Some hulls have suffered from blisters. Mino'aka had many small ones that would've been fairly easy to treat, but they remained unchanged from the time we bought her and caused no problems. The graceful Ericson 35 Mark II continues to be popular because it's fun to sail and packs lots of space into an inexpensive yet solid coastal cruiser. Asking prices range from $19,000 to $35,000. Ericson owners love their boats and share information through active owner groups and e-mail discussion lists.

Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** It REALLY sucks when you have to say goodbye to friends. Especially when they're as awesome as Carlos and Linda from @22South. So... we tried to put it off for as long as possible! The time had come for us to start sailing south along the Madagascar coast in preparation for crossing the Mozambique channel. Carlos and Linda weren't quite ready to depart Madagascar yet, but we convinced them to make a few jumps south with us before the time came to part ways. We stopped in at the deliciously named Honey River and then sailed further south down to Antanimora where we explored a sand spit, found some humpback whales, did some hiking and snorkeling and almost lost a drone! It was jam packed few days together, but it will have to hold us over until we find each other again another day, in another bay! Thanks for watching! We removed the depth transducer and fiberglassed over the hole, but wanted to use it as a redundant backup. So, we removed an old and broken knot-meter and re-used its hole for the sonar, using 3M 5200 marine adhesive sealant. In a future video, we'll show you how we mount the new transducer that will take over as part of our primary system. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We can't produce quality inspirational content indefinitely without the support of our fans. Our LOUD Dometic RV Air conditioner was terrible. The AC was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk without yelling! We did a lot of research and we found a cheap and fast modification that ANYONE can do! This Dometic RV air conditioner modification will fix your air conditioner to work they way it was intended! Your RV air conditioner will have more air flow from increased efficiency! The Dometic Air Conditioner will blow colder air and it will be more quiet! We did this process on both our RV rooftop air conditioners and now in the upper 90's outside it actually feels COLD inside. Nearly two years after I bought Dilly-Dally, we sailed back to Marmaris for a rigg check. In the meantime I have changed and invested a lot in the boat. New sails, davits, solar panels, dinghy and outboard, a modern chart plotter plus AIS, I got rid of the old boring blue bimini, sprayhood and cockpit cushions and changed them into fancy grew ones. But still I was suspicious about the rigg. The pre owner, who was sailing the Moody 425 just for one and a half years, didn't know when they were changed or at least checked the last time. And generally it's said that you should change the stays and shrouds every ten to fifteen years. Okay, that's what the insurances want you to do. But in the past weeks I saw some newer yachts, five to eight years old, with damages in the rigging. I want to feel safe while sailing, especially on our planned long passages, that's why we asked Mustafa from Moss Rigging to survey Dilly-Dally. Why Marmaris? Easy to answer. In the town in the southwest of Turkey are the best workshops for boat maintenance. It turned out what I had expected: Dilly-Dally was probably still sailing with the first stays. That's why we changed all the stays and shrouds, ordered new halyards, serviced the seven winches and the in-mast furling system. Not cheap but in my opinion a good invest. Safety first. Especially when you live on a sailboat.

We explore St. Augustine which has so many Christmas lights. It's the oldest city in the United States and the architecture depicts that. We also do some serious provisioning for sailing the Bahamas at Costco. It really helps when you have access to a vehicle to do that. Time for a fun hike at Spanish Pond in Jacksonville before having to say bye to family. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #staugustine #jacksonvillefl #sailboatlife ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by donating. https://www.paypal.me/wildlyintrepid ***************************************** Want to know how we did it? These are a few simple things we would encourage everyone to do on their boat. Not only does it save a few $$, but you learn more about your boat and become more self-reliant. When things go wrong out in the open waters…and believe me, they do and they will…you will thank yourself for having a little more knowledge and confidence which this can ultimately bring you. Don’t get me wrong…we do not claim to be pro’s and could certainly do more and do it better. But it’s a start. When we began our own maintenance, I was wishing there were more how-to videos on our engine. I hope this can help a few of you out there. All of our sailboat repair and maintenance blogs are now hosted on our dedicated maintenance channel, MOTHERSHIP MAINTENANCE Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/c/mothershipmaintenance An edited version of this video is now hosted there. Although we made some general boat yard blogs, here we delve deeper into the maintenance of the hull - the epoxying, antifouling, gelcoat and repairs we did. So if you're not a boat maintenance fan.. this probably isn't the video for you! The trickiest job was measuring, taping and repainting the waterline. We noticing our sailboat's stern was sitting heavy in the water and blistering was beginning to appear above the antifoul line.. so urgent action was needed! We used Hempels polyenamel paint to do the rub-rail and bootline, Gelshield 2 pack epoxy for osmosis protection and Jotuns Seaforce 90 for the antifoul. It wasn't the only tricky job we tackled. We also repaired gelcoat damage under one of the chainplates and beneath the rubbing strake. What an exciting life we lead! :/ _____________________ PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on most of our video blogs (and on other family channels) due to safeguarding issues regarding minors on the YouTube platform. Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** We've been searching all over the world, trying to get up close and personal with whale sharks. And it FINALLY HAPPENED IN MADAGASCAR!!! Ahh! So exciting! Together with our good friends Carlos and Linda from @22South, we spotted a school of tuna jumping in the water, which was apparently the sign for whale sharks. We all jumped in and got an amazing whale shark encounter! Before this bucket list moment, we also did a bit more exploring of Nosy Be. It was hard work paddling a traditional Malagasy canoe 2.5 miles to Lokobe Park, but the incredible wildlife was well worth the effort. To wrap up that day, we took in a stunning sunset at Mont Passot. It's safe to say that Madagascar was quickly climbing our list of favorite countries! Thanks for watching! How to prep a fiberglass boat for a hole repair in the hull, and how to apply a fiberglass patch using epoxy resin, DIY... We thought we crushed a hull, but it turns out we merely distorted it. Concerned that this would cause a leak near the sonar transducer, we decided to remove it and apply a fiberglass patch to the hull. This video borrows heavily from content seen in Episode 27, but includes a bit more detail about the fiberglass patch process. This is a Boat Work video, after all. It is necessary to include this video to give some context to the next one coming out. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We can't produce quality inspirational content indefinitely without the support of our fans. This round we re-stock the lumber pile with some glorious white oak, ash and some hickory. Steve designs, builds and launches a quick and dirty pram for fishing adventures on the local brook and Arabella gets some more oak planks added to her hull. It's a jam packed episode, enjoy! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you enjoy following our journey please consider donating to help keep it going, here are a few ways. Time to mount an extra 300W of solar panels on the sailboat. And this time we don't make the mistake of buying semi-flexible panels we go with rigid solar panels to be fully sufficient once in the Bahamas. We also enjoy land life in Jacksonville with Alex's siblings. It was odd sleeping in a bed which didn't move. And I found the biggest lemons ever. We become locals and go at Hanna Park with my sisters Julie and Chantal, enjoy some drinks at the Hoptinger rooftop bar in Riverside where my niece Melissa joins us. We even get a delicious seafood meal with the whole family and brother in laws Sean and Jeff. The land life adventures continue in St. Augustine where we check out the stunning architecture of Flagler College, we drink a few margaritas before devouring tasty pizza slices at Pizza Time and enjoy the Christmas lights. This is when we realized our semi-flexible solar panels weren't working well anymore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDbmC-rhsds Installing our semi-flexible solar panels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XPRVjblPvs Family time in Quebec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcrojzAVOrA If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #solarpanelinstal #boatlife #jacksonvillefl ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron or donating. On this episode of Sailing on a Whim, we begin our EPIC road trip in the USA to visit national parks, explore the west, and make the most of our time away from Whim. Join us as check-out the Sturgis Rally Motorcycle, make a quick stop through Devil’s Tower, explore an abandoned mining town, and visit one of the most beautiful parks in the United States, Glacier National Park. This crazy adventure started in early 2018 as we started researching learning how to sail, buy a boat, outfit her, and take off for a life on the open seas. There has been a huge learning curve trying to make all of this happen and we want to share with you everything that we have learned and have some fun along the way. We are excited (and a little nervous!) to share this journey with you. We hope that you learn a little from our experiences and maybe inspire you to make changes to live the life you want! ***FILMED AUGUST 2019 *** —————————————————— TRUST NO ONE CLOTHING: https://www.trustnoone.co/ —————————————————— SUBSCRIBE & FOLLOW https://www.sailingonawhim https://www.youtube.com/sailingonawhim https://www.facebook.com/sailingonawhim https://www.instagram.com/sailing_on_a_whim https://www.twitter.com/sailingonawhim —————————————————— CONSIDERING BECOMING A PATRON https://www.patreon.com/sailingonawhim —————————————————— GEAR: Cannon EOS Rebel SL2 https://amzn.to/2y2Hty1 Cannon Powershot G7x Mark II https://amzn.to/2S6rOVu DJI Mavic Air https://amzn.to/2W2OYgz GoPro Hero5 https://amzn.to/2S8FizU Fantasea Line FG7X II https://amzn.to/2xSuY8q Rode DDG-GO Deadcat https://amzn.to/2Y4AT4G DJI Mavic Pro Plantinum https://amzn.to/3eU5tUT —————————————————— RECOMMENDED READING: Learn to Sail – https://sailingonawhim.com/learn-to-sail Cruising Life – https://sailingonawhim.com/cruising-life Maintenance & Repair – https://sailingonawhim.com/maintenance-%26-repair Inspiration & Adventure – https://sailingonawhim.com/inspiration-%26-adventure —————————————————— MUSIC FROM EPIDEMIC SOUND https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/8umi8w/ —————————————————— DISCLOSURE: Sailing on a Whim is a participant in affiliate advertising programs, including but not limited to the Amazon Services LLC Associations Program. This is part 3 of three videos showing you some peppers being cooked with the sun. Part 1: https://youtu.be/KFBcQ7RomtI Part 2: https://youtu.be/MUg6LNc5Tik Peppers are easy to cook, since they are vegetables, containing mostly water. The peppers were already cooked in part 2 but I had to let things cook for longer. I underrated the movement of the sun, and I overrated the useful of water bottles as anchor points against the wind. I also noticed the velcro tape melting down, and by the time I am editing this I have already sawn it with thread and needle to get rid of all problems in the future. The pots aren't pots at all. They are just some cookie boxes, so no wonder they are difficult to handle when they are hot. Also, the oven bags are for just one use, and in part 2 I must have accidentally broken them at the seams. The heat is making the plastic wrinkles fragile. I suggest you go for those silicone transparent bags, though they aren't as transparent as these i have. When possible, use glass. Solar cookers: -Homemade DIY "Fun panel", by designer Teong H. We have some exciting news for you! Find out what it takes to get the Impossible Dream ready for our summer voyage. We have a lot of projects going on onboard right now. Learn about some of the things we have been fixing, replacing, and installing over the last couple of months and what we still have yet to accomplish. We'll show you a bit of what it's like to live in the midst of a construction zone and what some of our more lengthy projects, like replacing all the hatches on the portholes, entail. In this episode of Sailing Bluefin, we bring you back to 2019 to show you another DIY task that is simple when you know how to do it! Sealing a joint on your boat using boat sealers like this silicone one, can be a simple fix to leaks that cause issues every time it rains! You can also use another type of marine sealant or boat sealant like marine grade Sikaflex, but for this we used Selleys Marine flex after having issues with Sikaflex. We hope this do it yourself video helps with all those leaks! Love our videos and want to help us create more content? In this video, Barely Made it to Grenada, We sail south from St. John USVI to St Croix USVI once more to do our checkout of the US and stage our departure for the Island of Grenada, a 4-5 day sail to the south east which will take us well outside of the hurricane belt and to safety. Grenada Lima, a non-for profit organization together with MAYAG yachting association were able to arrange for safe entry and quarantine of yachts looking to shelter in Grenada from the 2020 hurricane lineup which has already begun. After a short stop in St Croix we leave for Grenada and spend 4.5 days at sea travelling there. Our longest single non-stop passage on Balachandra yet. On the last day our mainsail gets damaged just as we encounter a serious current that threatens to take us into the pirate waters of Venezuela! #caribbeansea #sailinggrenada #2020hurricaneseason #sailingchannel If you like our videos and want to see more/better videos, more often you can become a patreon supporter: https://www.patreon.com/sailingbalachandra If you haven't yet SUBSCRIBED and wan to see more please click the SUBSCRIBE button above, and be sure to give this video a like! In August of 2017 we sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is our YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and my partner Nawal as we navigate the globe. We also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard full time.
