Sailing out of Farmers Cut without engine during a rage was stressful. The waves were rolling in and the wind was howling at 28 knots. This turned into an intense and long day to eventually end up in heaven. We called Black Cay in the Southern Exumas our home and the sea was providing for us. A little routine settled in as we were spearfishing and freediving. All followed by great seafood meals with our friends Therese and Cody from @sailingvinyasa This was filmed towards the end of March 2020. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailing #farmerscut #sailingwithoutengine ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member. I know a grilling guy doing a veggie burger. It is almost blasphemous, right? But the reality is that this is a REALLY good tasting burger. I would put the taste and texture right up there with an impossible burger (if you have ever had those at a restaurant). They are not hard to make but a bit time consuming so after you try this the first time and like it, you can make them in bulk and flash freeze them like we do for thawing and eating later. The recipe is below and you are going to think it is strange, but I promise these odd techniques are what helps to give this a very authentic taste of real meat. The varied textures add to the overall experience. The recipe is right here, or you can watch this and pause it as I go also. Ingredients: • 1 (15-ounce) cans of black beans. Drain and rinse them to get starchy water off of them • 1/2 cup of finely chopped onion • 1/2 cup of finely chopped pepper of your choice (I used bell because that is what I had) • 1 clove minced garlic • 1/2 cup roasted cashews • 3 tablespoons of crumbly cheese feta or Gorgonzola • 1 tablespoons mayonnaise • 1 small egg • 1/3 - 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs • A few drops of liquid smoke (optional) Instructions: Dry black beans by spreading on a pan in a single layer and either putting them in a 350° oven or better yet, I did mine on our pellet smoker for even more flavor. Cook them until they are dry and split open (about 15-20 minutes). Let cool to be able to handle Saute the onions and peppers on a pan until they are soft but not mushy. About 5 minutes on medium heat. Add garlic and sauté another minute or 2 only, then remove from heat and put aside in a large bowl to be used later to mix everything together Pulse the cashews in a food processor a few times until the pieces are all smaller than 1/4”. But don’t make it a powder, you are looking for texture in this. Pop them into the mixing bowl with the sautéed onions and peppers. When the beans are cool enough to handle pulse them in the food processor until they are about no larger than 1/3 of bean size. This may only take 2 or 3 pulses with the processor (don’t leave it on, or you will get a paste). Add to mixing bowl along with Mayo, Egg, Cheese, and bread crumbs. Add crumbs a bit slow until you get a packable consistency. You can make patties and store them, or just store them in a bowl in a fridge like this. Cooking on the grill, brush the top of the burger with oil, and put it oil side down on grates. Cook for just about 3-4 minutes on med to high heat. Before you flip it, brush the top of the burger with oil, then flip over gently one time only. Cook for about 2 minutes on this side. Don’t be tempted to flip or mess with it too much, it will get crumbly if handled too much. Cooking on a frying pan or flat top grill - Same as above except put some oil in the pan rather than brushing it on the burger. Same cooking times as above. You can get to the recipe here - http://svdreamchaser.com/2020/12/how-to-make-your-own-impossible-burger-veggie-burger.html Or you can download the PDF right here - http://svdreamchaser.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/BlackBeanBurger.pdf Here are some great accessories we use. How to install a stretch belt on trucks and cars. We are showing how to do this on a 2014 Chevy Truck, but it works the same on most vehicles that use stretch belts. While it's not hard to put a stretch belt on, still miss the tensioner. Tools you will need to put on a stretch belt are zip ties and a method to turn the pully. On our truck, I used a socket wrench which seemed to work very well. I'll introduce a new segment, "The Nifty Corner", and I'll talk about how a simple boat fix can turn into a totally different project. The captain might be telling the story, but Alva, She Rules The Waves... Lots of bird action this time. Plenty of wind and we did some incredible leaning. Our DIY project was building a handrail on our dock steps for convenient in and out boarding. Ultimately, we hit 7.5 knots with gust up to 22 knots, maybe faster. Steve had to wrestle the wheel through the wind. We had all 800 square feet of our sails out. When the wind hit 20-22 knots we were having a great time hanging onto the wheel. It was a wild ride. Should have secured things down below just a little bit better. Nothing totally damaged, coffee maker is slightly out of alignment…still works 😉. Winter sailing is for the birds LOL. Super thanks to our subscribers! You all rock. The world changes around us! The pandemic looms as we continue our around-the-world journey, sailing into the British Virgin Islands. Everything is normal until it isn't. Track us on our website! http://www.sweetruca.com Join our crew on Patreon! http://www.patreon.com/ruca Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! @rucasailing http://www.facebook.com/rucasailing http://www.instagram.com/rucasailing #sailing #bvi #dogtravel #travelvlog #sailingchannel After a chance encounter, we are invited to do some racing at St. Thomas Yacht Club (STYC). We hang out with our new friends there and tour the yacht club. It has some excellent sailing heritage, including producing many Americas Cup Sailors and Match Race champions. We have even raced against a few in the past. After some fun, it was time to get back to boat work. We had a watermaker to rebuild. We fixed it up and even created a DIY how-to video in our tech talks section. We also check out the island of St. John (STJ) and do some snorkeling and freediving with turtles. Then, it is on to BVI. We are sailing through paradise in bliss, but starting to become aware of the changes on the horizon. About Us: So who are we? We aren't Vendee Globe Race or Volvo Ocean Race sailors, although sometimes Curtis wishes he was one. We don't have a fancy catamaran, but we do have a pretty and fast monohull sailboat. We are not Sailing La Vagabonde, Expedition Evans, Sailing Doodles, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing, Gone With the Wynns, or SV Delos. We are Kate and Curtis, a YouTube sailing couple and travel vloggers, with our sailing rescue dog Roxy, aboard SV Sweet Ruca, a J-Boats J/46 monohull. Cruising catamarans like the Fountaine Pajot's, Leopards, and Lagoons can't keep up, but we still like them ;-) We even wanted one before we found out how much fun performance monohull sailing and cruising is! We used to be sailboat racers on the great lakes (we still are...kind of). We bought a sailboat, re-fit it, with a goal to sail around the world, doublehanded, via the capes (Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope). Some say this is the wrong way or the hard way. To us, the challenge is part of the journey. We will see if this will happen or not, as the "new normal" has put quite a damper on our travels. For now, we are holed up in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean making videos and scuba diving. We hope you enjoy our videos and vlogs and join us on our journey via our YouTube Channel. 'Till Next Time :-)

We are nearing the end of the knees! It's amazing the difference that can be seen as these all start to go in. Not only to the rigidity of the structure but also at how the space seems so much different inside. Knees keep the hull from wracking while sailing. They tie many parts of the structure together so that they work together. This can mean they can sometimes be a bit challenging to fit and secure in place. After Steve finishes the knees, he gets a very well deserved holiday break with Robin while Alix fits them in Arabella. As we said in the video we'd love your help growing the channel this year. If you are not yet subscribed please click the subscribe button and if you would like to be notified when new videos come out, make sure you click the notification bell next to the subscribe button as well. We wish you all a wonderful 2021! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. This boat originally had a shower and drain sump of some kind installed, but the previous owners removed it. I suppose their sense of smell was not particularly acute. Sailboat Wrecks on Christmas, just the present you want in these crazy times. When a sailboat runs aground, all you can do is pray it isn't yours. Come to find out, it was Hayden's Pearson 303. We had previously toured the boat, and helped Hayden sail it down. He was planning to sail south to Florida with us after his own refit. Christmas day storms decided that wouldn’t happen. (We sought long and hard to find the video of the boat being salvaged. We did not know how to get a boat off the rocks and we cringe watching it every time.) Now, we help him haul out and inspect his boat. Watch to see the damage, and see how it happened! This episode was definitely not how we thought we would be spending our last few weeks in New England before we begin our sailing journey. Swan Song, the worst name ever for a boat, now sits at the house in Cape Cod, awaiting spring so its refit can begin and become a brand new sailboat! Thank you all for watching. Our existing solar panels weren't enough. This is how we figured out how to add solar panels to a small [30 foot] electric sailboat. Our 30 foot electric sailboat. We had already designed a solar arch months ago for the eventual installation of additional solar, but after things went south for us, we decided now was the time to build the arch. From scratch. I’m pretty sure we’re crazy. Between bending and welding metal, this was our hardest project yet. The final result looks great, but it was a doozy. 800 watts added to our existing 400, and our 30 foot sailboat now houses 1000 watts for our Electric Motor. Ixion is crushing it in the electric department. Thank you all for watching. Don’t forget to subscribe, comment, and share! We have now gotten a Greek residency card which allows us to stay in Greece for an extended duration without the need for a visa but this is an evolving situation with Brexit and the rules change faster than we can breath. Many of us are yearning freedom right now and we hope this video will bring some positivity and peace your way. 🙏 Boat build outline video ➜ https://youtu.be/g4sD0ownveI How we made our cheap DIY rig video ➜ https://youtu.be/HRKiafUyieE 🔔 SUBSCRIBE to see more of our videos ➜ http://bit.ly/SBYouTube⛵ This is the epitome of what sailing means for us... Freedom. When we're at anchor we are in our own little world and in a quiet anchorage like this it almost feels like we have the entire bay to ourselves. Your day is your own to do as you wish. If you want to wake up at 5 am and go for a swim, before sitting in the cockpit in your underwear while you drink your coffee and watch the sunrise, you have the freedom to do this. If you want to go to a beach, you grab a bag with some towels, suncream and something to drink, jump in your tender and you are ready to rock and roll. Whether you decide to come back after an hour, or 8 hours, you just do whatever you feel like, and your little floating home - with its fully stocked galley and nice cold fridge - bobs around waiting there to welcome you home whenever you're ready. If you want to explore the shallow nooks & crannies of a bay, or head in to check out some nearby beaches, you can stick your outboard (or electric motor if you enjoy peace & quiet) on the back of your dinghy and go on a little scouting expedition. If you fancy a workout you can do this under oar instead. If you fancy going for a sail, but you can't be bothered to take the boat from 'house mode' to 'boat mode', you might decide to pootle about under sail with your tender. This is a great way to see the coastline from up close and feel very close to the water, which in itself makes you feel like you are very much connected to the environment around you. As you pass the shoreline you might keep your eyes peeled for some firewood, dandelions, primula, edible funghi, or other such bounties of nature and collect them for dinner. Arriving back at the boat with your goodies you will feel a little bit like Robinson Crusoe, and your meal will fill you with a little side-dose of satisfaction in addition to its calorific value. You can then keep a lookout for shooting stars while drinking a beer, before being rocked to sleep in your little floating home. This really is paradise for us, and we can't wait to get out there again when we can, with an even deeper appreciation for the freedom that life afloat can provide. 📖 Get our Financial Freedom PDF (at zero cost) here ➜ http://bit.ly/FinancialFreedomPDF 🌳 Join our Patreon Crew here! ➜ https://patreon.com/sailingbritaly 📲 Get one-to-one video call or email assistance here ➜ https://sailingbritaly.com/videocalls ⛵Sailing Britaly⛵ We are Chris (British), Rossella (Italian), and Emma (Britalian!) Steve got roped into giving Karen a pedicure. With the weather being so cold and rainy we stayed inside our Catalina 42 getting ready for a New Year's Eve celebration. Weights were added to our exercise routine. It rained all day which was a great test for the rebedding of numerous ports and hatches using butyl rubber tape. Having a keel stepped mast is frequently a source of water leaks. We also had previously rebedded the mast collar bolts and added a sealant to the top of the mast boot. We're happy to report all this work paid off as we were high and dry inside during the torrential downpour. Started our New Year's Eve celebration by popping some Champagne, dancing and reflecting on 2020 at the end of the video. Won't win any awards for our singing, at least we tried. Happy New Year!!!!! Thanks to our subscribers! You really keep us going. About us: We sail, fish (haha), dance, fly the drone, sometimes wear bikinis, DIY, ride the motorcycle, listen to great music, and enjoy life. Having fun on a Catalina 42. Older sailors don't have a clew when to quit; they just keep lubing their winches. Sailing life in Staniel Cay was so exciting with special activities for our two birthday celebrations. First things first, we needed some beer and fresh food from town. Shortly after we dove in through underwater tunnels to get inside Thunderball Grotto which got its name from the James Bond movie with Sean Connery. It was spectacular there with so many entrances and a big cavern filled with fish, a snorkeling paradise. We even went to see the lazy swimming pigs of Big Major Cay. All that topped with epic meals caught from the sea with our friends from Sailing Vinyasa. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailinglife #stanielcay #thunderball ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member. Knees and blocking are what keep the deck of the boat from racking or moving in unwanted ways. Ours are made from the stumps we dug out of the ground around this time last year. It's amazing to see the final product from those rough pieces or material to what they are becoming now. A great way to ring in the new year! Thank you to everyone that has been following, sharing and support this journey. The community that has come together through all this has been one of the best parts of this project. We wish you all a wonderful new year and hope that you all get to (and decide to) chase your dreams in 2021! It FINALLY happened…we STARTED taking sailing lessons from Ben Thompson, one of the co-owners of First4Sail. We hired Captain Ben for two weeks to teach us all aspects of sailing and boat maintenance. Boy, did we underestimate all there was and is to learn. It was overwhelming! Before you begin to sail you have to consider so many things like, engine and boat maintenance, safety, weather, wind, currents, chart planning, navigation buoys, just to name a few. This video focuses on the first five days of our sailing lessons. Every day we sailed and learned new skills related to the boat and/or sailing. Day 1 and 2, we stayed within Rodney Bay learning how to maneuver the boat in tight spaces and how to dock. Day 3 we learned how to navigate so we sailed to Castries (9 nautical miles), to practice what we had learned. And, returning to the dock, at the end of the day, we had a little accident – the bow of the boat scraped up against the cement dock. Thankfully, we did not inflict much damage on the boat, though our egos were definitely bruised. Day 4 and 5 we really put all of our skills (and newly learned navigational skills) to work as we sailed down to the stunning Pitons, about 17 nautical miles (at 5 knots, it took us about 4.5 hours to get there). We spent the night on a mooring ball in Jalousie Bay. We were the only boat in the bay; Captain Ben said that he has never seen that before. Before returning to Rodney Bay, we took our dinghy over to Souffriere and walked around the town. It had been 3 years since were last there and the changes were sadly, quite evident. The reduction of tourists has shuttered many of the businesses. After a brief stop in the church and the market, we returned to the boat to learn navigational markers and then start the journey back to Rodney Bay. The successful trip to the Pitons felt like a great accomplishment and it was really enjoyable! Our brains really needed a break, but our schedule did not permit that! It was on to Day 6 of lessons the next day! #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? 1 Year of Sailing in 1 minute, No motor no problem the sailing dream must go on. 3183 Nm , 3 countries, 1 dead motor, 37 Fish, 19 Lobster, 7 Crabs and a lifetime of memories. When we purchase our 1981 Hunter 33 on Lake Erie in Canada we never would have guessed what our first year as full time cruisers would be. We left the Great Lakes and cruised down the Erie Canal to finally reach the Atlantic Ocean in New York. It was SV Wildly Intrepid's first time touching salt water and surviving a bomb cyclone while at anchor. We saw so many things and met incredible people as we sailed down the United States East Coast. Crossing the Gulf Stream was a big accomplishment. It's hard to describe the unforgettable adventures we had in the Bahamas. Especially with our engine dying on us within days of arriving and in the middle of the Great Bahama bank with no land in sight. From there on we explored Andros Island, New Providence, Eleuthera and the Exumas for months. Unfortunately we didn't escape the pandemic but found shelter in Black Cay with our new family from Sailing Vinyasa. With the approaching hurricane season we sailed for over 325 Nm for 56 straight hours and managed to make it safely back into Florida where we rebuilt our engine ourselves. Stay tuned for more videos and a new season to start!!
