We were on our way back to the US through the Exumas so that we could finally fix our now dead for over 3 months engine. After what seems like forever and heading straight to the shore of Black Point we sailed North. Beating into the waves and pointing high into the wind led to a an interesting end of the day! We finally get to finish up the work on the bronze floors. We had about six sets of frames that needed to go in once we removed the molds. These last sets all needed bronze floors made up for them as we couldn't make those on our first go around. That means, back to bending bronze and welding in the boat! Yikes! Series of videos which covers removing the rig to replace the standing rigging and service all the rig systems, plus some other winter maintenance aspects. Part 1 covers lowering the mast, de-rigging, dismantling and starting to service the Selden hydraulic boom and the 3 hydraulic Furler systems. We also galvanized the anchor chain and received our Gori propeller back from service at AB Marine. This extensive boat maintenance took place due to Covid pandemic which on a negative note caused us to defer our next leg of the circumnavigation until autumn 2021, but on a positive note gave us this opportunity to get Cloudy Bay’s systems in top shape before we cruise more remote parts of the world. Ask any cruisers out there, antifouling is NOT a fun job and cleaning your hull every week while on anchor can be a real pain (a friend of ours actually ended up with a small crab in his ear while doing it). One dirty secret of the boating industry is that traditional antifouling is also really bad for the environment. And while paint available to pleasure craft is getting less toxic due to regulations, it is also getting less efficient. So after a whole bunch of research, Ryan decided that we were going to go a different route for our anti-fouling. He purchased cans of Hempel Silic - One, a silicone-based antifouling. While traditional antifouling uses biocides to kill anything that would attach to it, silicone antifouling creates a slick surface that prevents barnacles from attaching and growing on the hull. In this video we haul out a Hunter 27 Sailboat abandoned for 4 years. Location is RSYC - the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in Port Klang. Time, 2021 during the Pandemic. Welcome to our Refit Project of an abandoned sailboat here in Malaysia. We are a husband and wife team currently based in the Royal Selangor Yacht Club and going through an extensive sailboat refit with a goal to start sailing by June 2021. This is a quick DIY guide to making your own registration device for printmaking. Basic instructions and materials are as follows: I am using hardboard that is 3mm thick, 405mm wide and 810mm long, I halve this to create top and base boards. I cut a hole the size and shape of the lino that I regularly use in the top board and sandwich the two together with wood glue. I offer two options for registering the paper, using either a hole punch and pins, or registration tabs and tape. These are my preferred methods for creating reduction prints as they are reusable and reliable. You will need: hardboard, wood saw, measuring tape, pencil, wood glue, sticky tape, ternes burton registration pins, optional ternes burton registration tabs. Hi Folks! I found some footage from where we first cleaned up Reverie, our 1985 Pearson 34 CB Sailboat. We did a walkthrough of the boat. You will see a couple of pictures of what it looked like before and after. During this phase of our refit we were waiting for space to open at the DIY Yard so we could move the boat, so we were focusing on cleaning and fixing above the waterline. A lot of boat yards are being picked up by real estate developers to turn them into condos, so the availability of places to get work done will be going down over town, especially places where you could do the work yourself. We did some sanding, tried to make the sump pump work, and installed a boom preventer. There was also a problem at our house. Artic temperatures caused us to check on the home front. This led us to DIY on the boat and at home. Karen sanded some wood. We primed our old diaphragm sump pump for the day head. Building a boat can seem like an incredibly daunting task. One thing that has gotten us through these years is seeing it a lot of little things that need to be done and pieces that need to go together. This episode is very much dedicated to that ideology. We make a couple more fin head bolts to lock in the grown knees we put in the boat recently. It seems ridiculous, but it’s the reason we worry so much about our boat. It’s the reason we agonize over every little decision about maintenance and upgrades. Our boat is too nice. When we bought our boat, the surveyor declared it to be in Bristol condition. A 38 year-old boat! The previous owners took immaculate care of her, and now the torch — to care for this beautiful piece of nautical history — was being passed to us. Oh but it’s just a boat. That’s also true. We haven’t babied her as much as her previous owners, for the plain facts that we’ve lived aboard full time and introduced her to harsh saltwater. But we’ve done our best to preserve her original glory while also doing the necessary things to keep her seaworthy and suit our cruising goals. How much do we have to rip apart to make necessary repairs? is the question we wrestle with in this episode. We’ve got a chainplate leaking into the deck, and there might be more. We know there’s some rotten deck core, but how much? We don’t know without tearing things apart. How much worse does it need to get before we can start to make it better? How to install a 1-inch transfer case drop in minutes to alleviate drive train vibration on lifted jeeps and trucks. Not a long project, but you could also have to modify your transmission house because you can't shift. First, you want to get a jack and put this under the transfer case mount to help support the weight. Then lose the bolts on one side just enough to allow the other side both the mount one inch of room when you take out the bolts. Then repeat the steps for the other side, be sure that you tight all the bolts once both sides are complete, would hate for this to fall off on the trail.
