We go over how to replace a low beam headlight on a Volvo S60 with no tools and not having to remove the headlight assembly. This task would have only taken minutes, but we ran into an issue. The car headlight bulb connectors got damaged by improperly plugging the build-in or aftermarket high-powered bulbs that make too much heat. Any form of contact with your skin will reduce the life of the bulb. I found out about that the hard way when I was way younger. The salts and oils from your skin will damage the bulb and cause the heat to concentrate. We learn from our mistakes and move on! I hope this helps... We're back to planking! We've asked some of our skilled friends to come back and help us get closer to closing up Arabella's hull. We have eight oak planks, a couple of cedar planks, and the black locust sheer strakes remaining for installation. After the remainder of the oak planks are in, we can either keep moving forward with the rest of the planking, or we'll be able to confidently move on to interior joinery. Carolyn's on hand, Jack's working here in this video, and Wes is due to arrive. Our goal is to see if we can get all the oak planks installed with their help. It's a tall order, as the fastest we've been able to put on planks, no matter the crew size, is three planks per week... But we are going to do our best! In this video, Jack talks about his new business, Dara Forestry and Maritime Timber. We're glad he's decided to use his resources to supply lumber for boatbuilding, and we're sure we'll see him succeed and for others from boatyards and home builds to get more access to these ethically sourced resources. How to make SAILING MOM super HAPPY - Ep 103 You can support the creative process in making artistic content here: https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis The best mothers day gift is to tell mom how you feel. In this weeks vlog Declan and Ivan do just that. Through the medium of food they create a culinary display of love. These amateur chefs cook a three course meal in the small galley kitchen in our tiny home, our family liveaboard yacht. Thank you boys, I am very grateful for the effort you made. But wait there's more. My talented sister Hilary, who cropped up in the episode 79 at Tangalooma resort when we fed the wild dolphins, has recently made an advert for Nivea that also has a mothers day theme. You can watch it her here: https://youtu.be/5FgfrycTISo Music Analog heart - With love cinematic version - Musicbed.com Brooke Annibale - Patience instrumental - Musicbed.com David Mumford - Ball and chain Due to travel restrictions our income has been massively compromised to the point where we either drop the anchor for the last time or, reluctantly, we seek financial support to continue our creative process. Should you choose to support our journey please know that we are very grateful and hope that the rewards meet your expectations. Any contribution will be helping produce videos (which take between 30 to 50 hours a week to make) and support on going boat maintenance. Regardless, we are stoked if you take the time to watch our journey. Even better if you take the time to 'like', 'comment' or 'share' (or all of the above) our YouTube videos. These are free things that help us enormously. Thank you! Rob, Rachel, Finn, Declan, Ivan https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis BACK STORY In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #MothersDay #NeverStopWanderingNeverStopWondering. #TheCruisingKiwis
DESCRIPTION IN ENGLISH: Our steel sailing yacht a Maupiti 38, entirely made by ourselves, has been our domicile on the Adriatic coast since 2010. At almost 12m in length and 3,50m in width, the moderate long keeler offers comfort for 2 - 4 people that much larger yachts don` have. Electric cooking takes place on board. The outboard is also electric. We didn't want gas or a separate generator. A 24-volt battery bank (12/2-volt cells) with 1.200 AH, which is also used in large electric forklifts, acts as energy storage for the entire on-board electrical system. Our sine wave inverter / charger (Studer XTender 5000/24) with 5.000 watts of power supplies the household electricity with 220 volts for the two induction hobs in the galley as well as all electrical appliances even without a shore connection or machine running. The electrical concept (of course 2-pole) has proven itself for more than 14 years. The batteries (renewed 2020) are charged with a second alternator 24V/100A driven by the boat engine, as well as by a propeller shaft generator when sailing. The shore connection charges these via an isolating transformer and the Studer XTender 5000/24 sine inverter/charger. A blockage-proof electric LAVAC toilet, the 11 KW Webasto hot water heating with boiler, the beds with slatted frames, the deck wash pump, the self-tacking jib and the very fast and powerful hydraulic autopilot from Tecnautic Swiss are further highlights. For me as a metalworker, building the boat hull was much easier and more practicable than originally thought. (Posthumously a big thank you to the brilliant designer Anton Luft!) It is driven by a very quiet 5 cylinder diesel 62 HP, 2,800ccm from Beta Marine (based on Kubota) with hydraulic ZF reversing gear via cardan shaft / hardy disks / thrust bearings to the 19/13 "three-bladed fixed propeller, which drives the shaft generator when sailing from 5Kn All of the finest technology. Of course, all the other things necessary for seafaring are available. Since summer 2019, we have been sailing without time restrictions (retirees) in the Mediterranean sea. In 2022, we also installed a very powerful 240L/H Machine Driven DIY Water Maker. ©Robert Absenger, sailing sapore di mare ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ©Robert Absenger, sailing sapore di mare

We are finding more problems with our Yanmar 2GM and not only a cracked piston. But like Cory says: " We're getting somewhere!" We have been learning so much and had to become diesel mechanics if we want to keep on traveling with our sailboat. And with hurricanes already popping out and squalls being more and more frequent we really need an engine as soon as possible. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! If you are doing a full Yanmar 2GM engine rebuild this video is for you. We explain how to remove pistons from the cylinder head. That's when we finally got a better look at that cracked piston, a full chunk of metal was entirely gone. No wonder our little diesel engine wasn't running anymore. Our second piston is still good but unfortunately the piston rings we're fully seized up. After some struggles and trying out a few different tricks we finally manage to get them off. Fortunately we had ordered new rings for that one. Don't miss next video when we explain how to install the pistons without the fancy piston compressor tool. We also measure the bearing clearance. I'm still waiting for materials, so rather than waste time and not release a video I did some housekeeping. There was still a lot of small fixtures and fittings to take out of the boat ready for new ones to be put in. I managed to get the thru hull fittings out and a lot of rotten wood. Here we go over how to replace and troubleshoot a car blower motor. For testing, you will need a multimeter, but not too many tools required to remove and replace a car blower motor. Once replace you will be so happy to have cool ac or heat if you live in one of them cold places that aren't Florida. Tools And Parts Used In This Video: HVAC Heater Blower Motor with Wheel Fan Cage: https://amzn.to/3xzGNdH Electrical Test Kit: https://amzn.to/2PEk66O Milwaukee 18-Volt Drill and Impact Driver Kit: https://amzn.to/366BwxM Husky Mechanics Tool Set: https://amzn.to/3kuGUzD For most cars, the blower motor is located on the passage side of the car under the dash behind the glove box. To take this blower motor out and remove the motor from the housing we used a t-20 and t-25, and to remove the new motor we bought from the housing just a screwdriver. Testing of the unit we just looked for 12 volts, but once we had the motor out, all the black carbon left on my hands, it was clear the brushes in the motor were gone. When installing the motor we did test it before taking the time to put it all together by just plugging in the wires. The install went quite well, if you are older like me, there may be drink breaks, but if you have a youthful kid just outsource it to them. Once done enjoy the airflow, the bad thing about a busted blower fan is, there is no air and it rains a lot in Florida. 00:00 How to Replace a Blower Motor in Your Car And Diagnosing 01:13 Remove Glovebox To Get To Blower Motor 02:23 Remove Blower Motor From Car 03:51 Diagnosing Blower Motor And Resistor 05:05 Disasible And Reassemble The Blower Motor 10:13 Testing Air Conditioner Blower Motor 10:24 Installing HVAC Blower Motor In Car 16:22 Blower Motor Final Thoughts 18:23 Car Blower Motor Install Bloopers And Outtakes Check out our shop on our website for branded gear: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/our_shop/ Support us by shopping through our Affiliate Links! Episode 002 There's always jobs and upgrades to do on a boat and our sailboat is no exception. Since buying Tāiko, it's been a steep learning curve for us in not only learning to sail but to learn to do maintenance and installs ourselves. In this episode, we complete some more boat work to get Te Tāiko ready for her first sail with us! THE NMEA 2000 network is in connecting all of our instruments! The Rocna 20kg anchor is on and the new sail cover is fitted plus more! We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel
Lots going on here at the boathouse. It's time to put the taper in the top of the mast. Turns out there's a little bit more to that than just doing a straight taper. We'll be talking about a certain kind of taper as well as figuring out how to accommodate the slip of the router in the mast. Meanwhile, Steve and Caroline get to work on starting to make some more planks for Arabella in anticipation of Wes and Jack coming to help us finish planking. This leads to an unexpected surprise with both planers! Thank you for watching and supporting! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interesting in supporting/helping here are a few ways: Acorn to Arabella wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority Jamestown Distributors Referral: If you are going to shop at Jamestown Distributors, please consider using our Total Boat referral code: http://totalboat.refr.cc/steveandalixa?t=tg Recurring support via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Original Soundtrack available at benfundis.bandcamp.com FOLLOW US: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acorntoarabella/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acorntoarabella Website: http://www.acorntoarabella.com
Live sailing roundup Ep 102 After a long and drawn out process taking nearly three years filled with doubt and anxiety about whether or not to take the plunge we have set up a Patreon page for creators of artistic content here: https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Due to travel restrictions our income has been massively compromised to the point where we either drop the anchor for the last time or, reluctantly, we seek financial support to continue our creative process. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #NeverStopWanderingNeverStopWondering. #TheCruisingKiwis

During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing". We begin our Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) battery build for our boat. We got in our Lithium cells from China and begin to unpack and check the voltages on them. We then out them in parallel, for now, to get them to equalize. Stay tuned for further progress on our new off grid solar and Lithium battery upgrade system as we build it. One of the best things about the boat yard is meeting new friends that are also doing boat work and work together to get stuff done in a foreign country. We hang out with two new friends and hit up a beach side restaurant in Phuket Thailand that is really good food and super affordable. Links from video mentions to follow
We finally receive our parts for the engine rebuild. We manage to remove our Yanmar 2GM which despite its small size is quite heavy and in the most awkward location of our Hunter 33. We only cover some of the rebuild in this video as we will have bonus episodes describing in detail all the steps we did in our complete Yanmar 2GM rebuild series. But it can't all be work so we decide to take a dinghy adventure in the mangroves of Callilisa Creek. We find many birds and dolphins. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! Hello! Welcome back to Mallorca. In this video, we enjoy some time in a cute anchorage just off a small island called Illa de Formentor. We go on a hike, not knowing what we'll see or find and end up getting to the top of the hills, with incredible 360 degree views! We swim to some caves close to the anchorage, fix our headsail furling line and then sail to the North Western coast of the island. This is by far the most dramatic sail we've had in a while - the cliffs are amazing. We bake bread, do laundry and Lars challenges himself with a DIY boat job under way (redoing our beauty bead in the cockpit). We drop anchor in what becomes our favourite spot in Mallorca. Thanks for watching! And subscribe if you'd like to support us :) ----------------------- ABOUT US: Hello! We're Alex and Lars. We bought a Sailboat: DIY Insulation – Pt 2 l Ep. 11 Welcome to another episode of Sailing Indiana. This week we finally finish the insulation project! If you check back to last weeks episode we decided to tackle some DIY boat jobs whilst we wait for the mast to be stepped. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work insulating the sailboat. In this episode you will see phase 2, where we overlay the yoga matt with some grey leatherette to give it a nice finish! We bought a second-hand sailboat, so DIY jobs are something we are getting used to! This week rather than waiting around for resin and plywood to turn up I decided to continue with a spring clean. I tackled the head which until now had remained untouched. I removed the toilet and sea cocks and thru holes. Removed all the fixtures and fittings. I also removed the electrical panel and gas stove and made a start on removing some of the galley. Potentially next week - Lifting the boat, starting on the bulkheads, mast removal? We review this 40v 6Ah Generic GreenWorks Battery the Cost half as much as the GreenWorks 4Ah battery with 2 More Ahs. After 4 months of Use of the Generic GreenWorks Battery from Amazon, really happen with the results. Amityke 40V 6000mAh Battery Replacement Compatible with GreenWorks 29472 G-MAX Power Tools: https://amzn.to/2QxDF0Z With the original GreenWorks 40v 4Ah and 2Ah, I could mow the entire yard, but I would have to change them out. When the factory batteries started dying, well, it would give me a long wait to finish the yard. With this 40v 6Ah generic battery from Amazon, well the whole yard is getting mowed with Battery Life left to spare. Once the yard is done, we then pull out the Echo powerhead. We will have to review the Echo powerhead again, it has been a great tool. This also has more then enough battery to get the job done on one battery!
