This is our attempt at up wind sailing. Well, we have to fix our exhaust leaks and rattles caused by some claps we bought on Amazon. We were using the EVIL ENERGY clamp which worked pretty well but after 2 years just didn't hold up. We went back with some simple clamps, everything is shown below and they worked great. We did have to do a little welding because of a larger gap on the Total Flow Muffler when using the Walker pipe. After everything was done, things sound great! My son loved it when he first got it because he could learn and it is very easy to use. Now after going to school for welding and using industrial equipment, he would like to upgrade, but that is on his dime. For me, this weld does everything I would need for quick small jobs. If I had to work with thicker metal, would just pull out the arch welder and start melting metal. The TotalFlow Muffler I think has a great sound for a very budget price. They have a very large selection so you can easily find the right sound for your ride. Now on the size of their pipe for the exhaust, our 2 1/4 pipe seemed a little big. Maybe they sent me the wrong size in the box, but we made it work. Just a little cutting and welding and the exhaust leaks were gone. Also having my son weld instead of me is great, he can really do some pretty welds, there was just a lot of gap to fill and he wanted to hit the trail. 00:00 Fixing Our Jeep YJ Exhaust 01:36 Jeep Sound With No Cat Or Muffler 02:13 Cutting Pipe To Weld To Muffler Replacing Clamps 04:09 Using Forney Flux Core Welder To Fix Exhaust 07:12 Install Cat-Back Exhaust On Jeep Wrangler 09:49 How The TotalFlow 2 Chamber Exhaust Sounds 11:06 Must-Have Tools For Flux Core Welding 13:55 Final Thoughts On Exhaust Repair With Women's Perspective. 16:59 Outtakes for Exhaust Repair Check out our shop on our website for branded gear: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/our_shop/ Support us by shopping through our Affiliate Links! The mock-up, and now mold, for the cabin house is finally put to work as the cedar strip-planked house comes together. Building this crucial part of the boat with this method has many reasons, chief among them being that strip-planking is extremely strong and waterproof, and that we don't have to use any very long, very clear pieces of cedar to make something that we intend to paint at the end. Alix announces that he's off to France for a while to take care of his father, and that we can't possibly know when he'll be able to return. We'd like to take this as an opportunity to say that though we don't talk about all the bumps along the way as we build Arabella and that it's not our focus to share from our personal lives, we've faced some challenges. Take care of each other out there. Take the time to heed the call when family needs help. Whether you or the universe chose that family, or, if your family chose you, we hope you are able, as Alix has done, to be there when it counts most. You'll get a little peek at some possible interior finishes and materials, Steve and Robin do much of the glue-up, and of course, Radar and Akiva are very, very good doggos. Thanks for your patience as Steve learns the new camera gear. We've told him it's *fairly* simple. On that note, enjoy the absolute visual freakout of a digital camera on a work surface getting the business end of a power tool. Thank you very much for watching and for your support. Happy Friday, all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. This was a stressful time for us, especially when border patrol called us. We were stuck in the USA because of the pandemic. With a delayed haul-out date, a flight which kept getting cancelled and pushed later combined with our visa running out we were in a logistical nightmare. Fortunately life on our small sailboat and the sound of the water was good. Our engine was still running fine and didn't fail us as we motor sailed back to Jacksonville then up the St. John's River. Filmed in August 2020. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailing #stjohnsriver #cruisingicw ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member. #Amelyacht #powertools #DIY #sailing #sailinglife #yacht #boat #sailboat #boatlife #boating #sailingboat #boats #sailingyacht #yachts #boatrepair #boatmaintenance #i70 #raymarine This is the third and final part of the 3 Pt maintenance video blog series on installing the Raymarine T70216 pack. In the first blog I looked at the contents and installed the Airmar intelligent triducer, which is a combination of a speed / depth / temperature transducer. In the second blog I installed the Raymarine short arm windvane transducer. And in this vlog - the third and final blog - I instal the ITC-5 transducer controller and the i70 multifunction display. In the winter before last i tackled the spaghetti junction of wires behind the nav station and tried to make sense of all the different voltages and systems on board. I then re-routed the existing wires to a central switchboard and pulled out miles of redundant wires which belonged to an old navtex, weatherfax and other old units. I then began removing the old B and G processor, hydra 2 display, sonic speed transducer and windvane wiring. In an ideal world I'd upgrade the entire boat in one go but I haven't got the budget for that so this was at least the start of that process of bringing the boat into the 21st century! ____________ In Pt01 of this series I replaced the old depth transducers with the Airmar NMEA 2000 Intelligent Triducer. See Part 1 here: https://youtu.be/ZhXRcQvdLFE In Pt02 of this series I swapped out the old B&G mast head unit, for the Raymarine short arm wind vane transducer. See Part 2 here: https://youtu.be/XYX9GFcV8-8 In Pt03 of this series I replace the old B&G transducer controller with the Raymarine ITC-5 transducer controller, and also replacing the old B&G dials with a single Raymarine I70 multifunction display unit. See Part 3 here: https://youtu.be/06eZHS4W2LA If you're a professional, expert or even an old salty sea dog with some good advice on Raymarine products or NMEA systems on sailboats, then please leave any constructive criticism, insight and advice in the comments below the videos. Here we go over how we wired an electric fan with thermostat control that turns only runs with the ignition on. We are installing this because after we installed AC, we now have heat issues while not moving. Once driving down the road the heat issue will go away due to the airflow of movement, but this is not a good solution, especially on the trail. We didn't Dyno the jeep, but the in the seat acceleration from a stop had a noticeable difference with our little 2.5L Jeep engine. The MPG just with the little driving we have been doing has improved about one MPG, with fuel prices right now every little bit helps. The fan is not the only thing we have done to this Jeep, we have a lot of YouTube projects, so your results may vary from ours. We did the greatest performance gain project on this Jeep was the gear change going to 4:88 from 4:10. Do you have a lot of money saved? What is your boat life monthly budget? How much does YouTube pay? How much did all the stuff on your boat cost? All of these questions are ones we get asked a lot, so thought we'd give you an honest (painfully so) simple video with this information! We found it difficult when we were first looking at sailing to know exactly what everything cost, partially because every boat, every person, every country, and every budget makes for a completely different experience! But also we found people a little reluctant to discuss exactly what they had spent or how much they earned (which is totally fair) but we wanted to make a video that other people like us may want to watch. Discussing all the money we have put into the boat so far was a little disturbing to say the least 😂 but we feel it was money well spent! 00:00 - Intro 01:00 - How much was our boat 01:16 - How much is boat storage 02:40 - Boat insurance 03:09 - Boat maintenance costs 05:20 - Boat safety costs 06:30 - Upgrades cost 09:56 - How much do we have in the bank? 10:20 - How will we finance our travels? 11:45 - How much do we earn from YouTube? 12:49 - What's our monthly budget? 13:30 - Wrap up 13:40 - Outtakes Join the Chasing Currents family!! The last plank... for now, anyway. This episode doesn't feature the whiskey plank, and Steve does a very good explanation for those who have been asking about the difference between a shutter plank and a whiskey plank. We've got four shutters, and like all boats, one whiskey, which is still yet to come. The truth is, there are a lot of ways to put a boat together, and Arabella is one more illustration of the choices that every boatbuilder makes on the way. So when the heck is the whiskey plank going on? Steve answers that, too. We get a great look at the first, and most complicated, strips to be laid down for the cabin house's construction. Cedar strips, nailed and glued with epoxy, start with these first pieces that follow convex camber athwartships, and concave camber fore and aft. Oh, and Grandpa bails that hay we saw cut last week. Thank you so much for watching and for your support, we hope you enjoy this one! This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells? Traveling to Cumberland Island by sailboat is the best way to explore this park at your own leisure. The twisted trees immediately transported me into a different universe where wild horses roam the trails, ruins tell you stories and drooping moss enchant you. We spent close to a week exploring Cumberland Island and Alex's sisters even joined us for a day. Filmed July 2020. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailing #cumberlandisland #travelgeorgia ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member. #Amelyacht #powertools #DIY #sailing #sailinglife #yacht #boat #sailboat #boatlife #boating #sailingboat #boats #sailingyacht #yachts #boatrepair #boatmaintenance #windvane #raymarine This is the SECOND in a set of THREE videos about replacing our old BNG instruments with the Raymarine T70216 package. The B&G equipment was on the old NMEA 0183 system and i wanted to replace it with a single NMEA 2000 multifunction display. But that meant replacing the controller with the ITC-5, replacing the display with the i-70 and replacing all of the transducers as well. This was the first time i'd upgraded to the NMEA 2000 system - replacing the old NMEA 0183 B&G stuff (sonic speed and depth and wind). Instead of trying to replace the B&G equipment bit by bit which would probably end up being just as expensive, I'm decided to replace it with the Raymarine T70216 package at 1500 euros. I could have got it a lot cheaper in the UK but we were in lockdown so I ordered it locally. In the box you'll find the ITC-5 unit the wind indicator the i-70 multi-function display various cables and the Airmar triducer (depth/speed/temperature). So the first job was to widen the thru-hull hole for the triducer to fit. The original hole was 4.5mm but it needed to be 5mm which meant taking the old housing out and putting a new one in - which is what this video is about. _______________ In Pt01 of this series I replaced the old depth transducers with the Airmar NMEA 2000 Intelligent Triducer. See Part 1 here: https://youtu.be/ZhXRcQvdLFE In Pt02 of this series I swapped out the old B&G mast head unit, for the Raymarine short arm wind vane transducer. See Part 2 here : https://youtu.be/XYX9GFcV8-8 In Pt03 of this series I replace the old B&G transducer controller with the Raymarine ITC-5 transducer controller, and also replacing the old B&G dials with a single Raymarine I70 multifunction display unit. See Part 3 here: https://youtu.be/06eZHS4W2LA If you're a professional, expert or even an old salty sea dog with some good advice on Raymarine products or NMEA systems on sailboats, then please leave any constructive criticism, insight and advice in the comments below the videos. SAILING Our PERFORMANCE CATAMARAN 1200 NM Florida to Rhode Island | Ep 33 After a few weeks of boat maintenance in Ft. Lauderdale we are embarking on a 1200 nautical mile passage from South Florida to Newport, Rhode Island on our Seawind 1600 catamaran. The state where I grew up, and Fabio lived for almost 15 years, and of course, where we met and began sailing together. With the official start to hurricane season just one week away we are keeping a close eye on the weather. We need to get past treacherous Cape Hatteras before a storm arrives in just a few short days. The waters off the coast of the Outer Banks are known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic with over 600 ships wrecked there. Little did we know the worst of the weather would be waiting for us in New England. If you enjoy this video give it a thumbs up, comment down below, share it with a friend and be sure to subscribe to our channel! If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our #Seawind1600 #catamaran, Wanderlust, in September. We plan to sail her to Harbors Unknown, and explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We share the adventures of #boatlife and how it’s possible to live an #alternativelifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. Until we officially begin our world voyage, we’re exploring the beautiful waters of #SouthFlorida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas. Subscribe now to join our #sailingadventure. A Close Shave: Planes, Motorboats and Anchor Chains | EP. 19 In this episode of Sailing Indiana's boat life things, we take you on a journey of two people, creating a trusting bond like no other, this of course, was put to the test by non-other than a good old fashioned DIY haircut. Does Lauren mess up Chris’s hair? Will he forgive her? If you can get through that nail biting scene, we show you the progress with our riggers and give you an update on our running and standing rigging for our sailboat. We then take you across marina to our Chandlery to finally search a new anchor chain! Yes folks the sailing scenes are coming soon! There will be sails, dropping anchor and some passage planning! So, we aren't quite ready for the Round the Island Race in the Isle of Wight just yet! Luckily, while we wait impatiently, our wonderful neighbour Jeff took us out along the Brighton coast on his motorboat. Episode 005 How to...and how not to...sew fitted sheets for squabs! We have been on a steep learning curve since buying our sailboat, Te Tāiko. We are pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone and learning new skills to become self-sufficient and sustainable. Usually we'd either pay for others to do these things for us or we'd just go and buy what we wanted. Not anymore! Those days are gone. It's amazing how learning one skill can open your world to so much. Since this video was produced, Adam has really taken to sewing. He's not only sewn all our sheets and cushions on Tāiko, but has made a cover for our hydrovane and its rudder, duvet covers, a cover for our roving solar panel, and he's now branched into splicing and whipping of our lines and sheets. Soon, he'll be making new curtains for Tāiko so watch this space! All from a $180 sewing machine from Spotlight. Who knew! Here it is! A video of us making our fitted sheets. Make sure you watch until the end of this one for the bloopers (which are actually longer than the how to part of the video!) if you want to have a good laugh. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! If commenting, we ask that you be respectful. After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #sewing

In this video, we review two recent eBay finds – USB chargers and a small USB LED light, testing their current draw and voltage output. These affordable tools make life on a boat easier without breaking the bank! If you’re into boat DIY, sailing projects, or simply want to learn more about life aboard, subscribe to follow our journey. Let’s sail together! Please note it looks like the light has increased in price since filming. It’s now between £12 and £15. I would still recommend this, it’s well made and inexpensive compared to ‘marine’ equivalents. As we've been finishing the rest of the planking on the port side, we have had groups of helpers lend a hand to clean up Arabella's interior. Most recently, David and his son, Grant, card-scraped the interior and applied Danish Teak Sealer to planks and frames. Boy, what a difference this made. In a boat shop, there is always some level of settling dirt and dust or inevitable dings and marks inside the hull, and since we're about to start building out the interior, we have our best opportunity and access to seal the planking and to clean what will be hard-to-reach surfaces. It is remarkable to see the glow of the wood emerge with the application of the sealer. We were blown away by the results—and the beauty that has come from the hard work of crew and volunteers. We are thankful and excited. Now, to keep chugging on the planking! We are nearly there. Almost done on the port side, and as Ben says in the narration, the last three planks on the starboard side will stay off for quite a while as the staging will be crucial for the next steps—building the cabin house, fitting out the interior, and planking the deck. Thank you for the support! Hope you enjoyed this one! Exploring Georgia by Land and Sea is a great way to see more of the USA when you can't get your boat hauled out due to the pandemic. This time we do a road trip with my sister and husband and explore the Historic town of Savannah, Georgia. We marvel at the old architecture, swooping trees and enjoying a few cold beers on this summer day. We then return to our small sailboat to find a new roommate and set sail or motor North on the ICW to explore Cumberland Island. Filmed July 2020. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailing #savannahgeorgia #smallsailboat ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member. We attempt a DIY installation of new navigation instruments for our 38 year old sail boat. We ended up trying to tackle a huge range of boat projects this winter and many of them 'evolved' into many more jobs than we expected, including this one. But, no one said owning and running a sailing boat was going to be easy. SUPER USEFUL LINKS EDITED IN - Several people have asked about the insanely expensive iPad holder which Carly loves, which is a three part system for us to mount it on our hand rail, but for those who have money to burn, here are the details. Part 1: https://amzn.to/368xrsS Part 2: https://amzn.to/3xaYjnH Part 3: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ROKK-Adjustable-Universal-Tablet-System/dp/B01AB368CY/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=rokk+mini+fully+adjustable&qid=1625166667&sr=8-2 1) The cheap bracket we used to mount the instrument panel can be found here: https://amzn.to/2UHsRz4 2) If you'd like to support out film making efforts then be sure to check out our Patreon page here: https://www.patreon.com/sailingcadoha 3) To learn more about us you can also head to our website which is https://www.cadoha.com 4) Carly has started an amazing online business selling up cycled products that she's made herself, if you like to see what's available from her shop then you can find everything here: https://www.cadoha.com/etsy-shop 5) If you'd like to check out the legend that is Mads and his channel, where he totally rebuilds the same make and model boat as we have, then be sure to check him out here: https://www.youtube.com/user/madsdahlke 6) Lastly you can check out our Instagram page here: https://www.instagram.com/sailingcadoha

That's a hilarious title, because nothing is "final" on a boat. The work never stops, whether it's cleaning, basic maintenance, emergency repairs, and so on, and so on.... But we are getting to a point where the chaos is less, the many projects are fewer, and we feel the boat is ready enough so that we can relax on board without jumping up to do another thing. And Chloe was on board. And nervous. She knew the boat, but after almost a year (which is almost 7 dog years!) she was very unsure. After several hours, she was starting to settle down a bit. So - cleaned like crazy! Fixed exposed wiring in the engine room. Replaced toilet seals. Installed the VHF radio finally. And likely several other things I forgot to film. But our hard work is paying off. There are still some issues with the engines due to feeding both from the port fuel tank - the carbs were completely empty despite my best efforts - so it's over to the mechanic to resolve. As long as we get into our slip, we can settle in more. And have more accessible power and water.

#Amelyacht #powertools #DIY #sailing #sailinglife #yacht #boat #sailboat #boatlife #boating #sailingboat #boats #sailingyacht #yachts #boatrepair #boatmaintenance #transducer #raymarine UPDATE 2023: DO NOT BUY THE Airmar NMEA 2000 Intelligent Triducer IT IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! The Triducer (speed and temp) stopped working two years after installation. After trouble shooting it with Raymarine Tech support they've confirmed it's goosed.. but refuse to replace it. _______ This set of THREE videos is about replacing our old BNG instruments with the Raymarine T70216 package. ___________________ In Pt01 of this series I replaced the old depth transducers with the Airmar NMEA 2000 Intelligent Triducer. From visiting MONET's place to REALIGNING THE ENGINE... Cruising life EY! | SAILING WAYZGOOSE WARRIOR Ep 27 On this episode you will see us visiting Claude Monet's garden at Giverny. Claude Monet, the painter who founded the Impressionist school lived in Giverny for 43 years. His house and his garden, the village of Giverny and its surroundings, were his subject matter and they still attract half a million visitors each year from all over the world, as well as painters, charmed by the unique light of the Seine Valley. After that we set off again to head into Port L'Ilon. Pond of 100 hectares, classified Natura 2000, the site of Port Îlon is located on one of the most beautiful loops of the Seine, 10 kms from Mantes-la-Jolie, at pk120, close to the lock of Méricourt. The marina of Port-Îlon is connected directly to the Seine and protected from its eddies. Even though our plan was staying there for a week we ended up staying for two as our flexible coupling was broken and we had to order a new one and align the engine. Engine and propeller shaft alignment are among the most critical aspects of propulsion system installation, reliability and maintenance. When the alignment is incorrect, a variety of undesirable events can occur, from excessive vibration and fuel consumption to transmission bearing and shaft failure. As we were concerned about excessive vibration we checked the alignment and whilst doing so we realised that the flexible coupling was broken. Oh well! This is cruising life...
