The regatta was an idea that Colin from Parlay Revival had to bring the sailing and local community together . It was hectic, chaotic and quite competitive and even though we did not win, we had a lot of fun! We shouldn't have left on a Friday. Brazil doesn't want to let us go. We had a diesel leak on the first night of our passage going from Brazil to the Caribbean and we needed to go back to shore to fix it! HOW TO HEAVE TO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQTOfns6OjU Our crew: Ben @bsoof (insta) Friends in this episode: @SailingYaba @SailingTouche We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Finding my brother's killer - Sailing Cambodia Part 2 I grew up in the coastal town of Whakatane on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. At the age of twelve my father threw me into a p-class yacht and I learnt to sail for the first time. At the same time my eldest brother Kerry purchased a yacht of his own and set off from Darwin into South East Asia with his friend Stuart Glass and Kerry's girlfriend. Back then there was no social media, communication was very difficult, certainly not phone calls and the staple was letters. Kerry wrote wrote the most amazing letters and my dad would read the letters round the kitchen table, together. We lived vicariously by Kerry's adventures and it kind of planted a seed in my mind, at that time, that one day I too would go saying the seven seas and have adventures similar to my brother and I have. I was 14 years old when those beautiful letters from Kerry stopped. Time past and we had no idea what had happened to Kerry and his crew. My father wrote letters all around the South East Asia's ports looking for information, contacting friends, other sailors, nothing, we had no idea. We heard the devastating news sixteen months later. Kerry had been captured by The Khmer Rouge, taken prisoner back to Tuol Sleng prison, where he and his charter, and Englishman called John Dewhirst were tortured for two months, forced to sign confessions to being CIA, and were then executed. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill # sailing #familyhistory #Cambodia #KhmerRouge #thecruisingkiwis

Originally from the Great Lakes, we left Newport Rhode Island in July of 2019 after refitting our boat DIY style. We then sailed to Maine, and from there down the East Coast of the USA, around Cape Hatteras, to the Bahamas, Back to Miami, and then to the Virgin Islands. From there we headed south to Grenada to escape hurricane season, then back up to St. Maarten where we launched our first Atlantic Crossing to Horta, Azores. We made a quick trip back to the USA in July of '21 to defend our Chicago - Mackinac Race overall title, then it was back to cruising the Canaries, where we launched for our second Transatlantic voyage, sailing to Brazil in South America and on to Uruguay. Our goal is to sail around the world via Cape Horn, and that is where we are headed now. Capturing footage to share this epic adventure with you as we round the horn and venture into the canals and fjords of Patagonia, Chile. Want To Learn More About Us and See Where We Are in Real Time? Marine electrical, woodworking, an epoxy pour, KP update, Akiva update, wood finishing and varnishing, hull fairing, bilge pump installation, navigation equipment, and spiffing up the shaper to do the big work of making the cherry wood grab rails for the interior. There's a lot going on in the shop, and to give you the inside baseball perspective, Steve has about four things going on so he can be working on something when people are working around and about the galley and he can't get to it. His main project, though, is definitely working out the stowage in the galley and rebuilding the elements that support the galley sink. Thank you very much for your support through our push to the water. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Ran-day is fast-forwarding his ownership series timeline to bring you a pretty special episode. His classic Scheel 45 sailboat is in Bristol, Rhode Island, which happens to be just down the road from Shannon Yachts. He stopped by Shannon Boat Company to say hello and then convinced Walter Schulz, the founder of Shannon Yachts, to come for a walk-through on his classic sailboat. Not only did Walter stop by, but had some straight talk about off-season priorities. ======= CAPT Q MERCH ===== https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaptainQYachtHunter ============== Support us ============== Like what we're doing & want to help?? Sailing into this remote group of islands off BC's Northern coast on our 30ft sailboat, we were greeted by enormous humpback whales swimming alongside our boat & dolphins riding the wake of our bow! Towering snow capped peaks, pristine wild beauty, rich First Nations culture and the densest population of marine mammals anywhere, few cruising grounds in the world measure up to this remote archipelago off the coast of Northern British Columbia, Canada. We'll be adventuring around this incredible sailing ground for the next little while before we continue our journey North to Alaska. #lithiumbattery #battleborn #battlebornbatteries #offgridliving #bocasdeltoro #redfrogmarina #panama #boatupgrades #boatmaintenance Our Lithium batteries finally arrive from Battleborn and now Woody has the big task of installing them onto our boat. It turns out to be a a bigger job than expected because of some necessary rewiring required and during that time our good friends leave us very sad. The marina at Red Frog is a great place to hang out in until the task is finally completed so we can't complain.
Sevgilerimizle... Avare
CAN YOU TRUST A Boatyard Contractor? LESSONS LEARNT! I Ep. 64 #Sailing #SailingCouple #BoatLessons In this episode, we talk you through all the jobs and repairs we have planned for our sailboat Indiana, whilst she’s in the boatyard. What boat jobs you ask? Well, as some of you may know, living aboard a sailboat means there are always boat jobs to do and boat maintenance to get stuck into. We get our seacocks changed, we get a new toilet, replace our stern gland and… Have the unfortunate experience of getting short changed by a boat contractor… This is not what we envisioned when we bought our sailboat. So, we roll up our sleeves and tackle the remaining boat jobs with less than 24hrs to spare before she’s dropped back in the water. That’s not all – in this episode, we also empty our diesel tank, ready to fit an inspection hatch – you remember our near accident in Portsmouth - https://youtu.be/cvYhJopj3ds We also tell you a little bit about where our First Mate is from and take you with us for our Christmas holiday to South Africa! Last hours preparing our sailboat to sail from Brazil to the Caribbean! Last things we needed to organize to sail for 2 weeks without seeing any land. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. Naval gun boat opens fire on sailors PART 1 - Sailing Cambodia We started our voyage to Cambodia with a trip to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat and the abundance of other historical sites and discover a very unusual creature carved into the relief of the temple at Ta Prohm. What is a creature that died out millions of years ago doing carved into a temple built in the late 12th Century? With so many historic sites to choose from it's easy to get all templed out. We took a trip to the floating village of Kompong Khleang to see the stilted houses that line the banks of the Tonle Sap lake. http://www.KompongKhleang.org However, our main reason for visiting Cambodia was a history of a darker time. In 1978 New Zealander Kerry Hamill was sailing through South East Asia, with Canadian friend Stuart Glass and charter passenger John Dewhirst from England, when their yacht "Foxy Lady" strayed into Cambodian waters. A Khmer Rouge Naval gunboat attacked the Foxy lady. Stuart was shot and killed. Kerry and John Dewhirst were taken to Tuol Sleng prison where they were tortured, forced to write confessions, then brutally executed. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #196 #Cambodia #AngkorWat #TheCruisingKiwis

Episode 028 Although our sailboat, Te Tāiko, sails really well upwind, it seems everywhere we sail to in New Zealand is upwind. Beating into the swell with salt water spraying over Tāiko's bow and side decks can be fun (and challenging at times), but every now and then, we really appreciate a downwind sail. So when we get an opportunity to do some downwind sailing, we really enjoy it even if it is slow. Although we do use our Beta Marine 45 turbo engine when needed, we try our best to minimise its use and sail as much as we can. As long as the conditions are safe and we have time, why not enjoy a slow sail and the opportunity to see gannets and little blue penguins up close? Sail with us as finally get to leave the mooring ball after a week of adverse weather and head back out to the outer islands in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. We hope you can also experience the peace and tranquility downwind sailing brings. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel
After the mast-stepping debacle & outboard failure in our last episode, our trimaran is now floating with her mast up and “wings” out, hurray! We enjoy our first sunset aboard, but our celebration is short-lived after discovering a leak in the hull, and coming face-to-face with how much work this boat really needs. Much love! The roaring 40s finally start to roar is we sail our way deeper into the southern ocean. You won't believe the conditions we face double-handed with our sailing dog! Join us for a fantastic challenge out at sea! #sailing #sailingaroundtheworld #southernocean About Us: We are two young racing sailors that decided to leave life on land and accomplish our goals of sailing around the world and learning about and experiencing different cultures. We're Dani and Toryn and we're working on a lifeboat conversion named Luja. Our lifeboat conversion has an electric motor and will have many creature comforts for its eventual life on the canals of Europe. In the meantime, we plan to cruise our lifeboat conversion around the Gulf Islands of Canada, but before we do that it's time to keep going with DIY and get her ship shape and ready to go! In this quick episode we're using Petit paint to turn our little floating home maroon. After many years in a VERY bright orange, we painted her blue last year because it was the only colour we could find, but we're much happier having her maroon, the colour we always wanted. Thanks so much for watching and following along on our journey! Don't forget to like and subscribe :)
Following Cindy's bike ride or want to donate to cancer research to cheer her on? Visit: https://profile.pmc.org/CF0139 It's a full shop these days, and in this episode, there is truly a little bit of everything. Woodworkers will enjoy the joinery from Scott, systems nerds will appreciate Satchel's work with the marine 12 volt electrical equipment, and of course we've got some sanding and wood finishing (varnish). Steve also gets out the welder, and no worries, he definitely got his title for the week and Ben called it his Sistine Chapel. It's that good. We're rolling with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery bank and it's neat to get Satchel's perspective on the various items needed to make that work well with an alternator and in a marine environment. We'll have a lot more about this in future videos as well. Plus, AKIVA! And little Ernest the Boston Terrier. They're best buds. Enjoy this video of our winter maintenance programme of the fleets in the Saronic Gulf, Kefalonia and the Cyclades. This is just a snapshot and the team are hard at work the moment getting ready for the first flotilla on the 15th April. In more detail our maintenance programme is comprehensive from careful servicing of engines, transmissions, and outboards along with items like the steering systems, winches and electric windlass, to servicing the toilets and plumbing systems. We also check that all the electronics and instruments are working correctly. All the sails are carefully evaluated by our specialist partners at Quantum Sails and either replaced or serviced. The rigging is also checked by a specialist. It's comprehensive from treating and protecting the keels, right the way to checking the lights, sensors and aerial on the masthead. Sailing North along British Columbia's incredible Inside Passage, some of the best cruising grounds in the world lie just beyond a series of challenging tidal passes.. the Discovery Islands are a labyrinth of beautiful forested islands, inlets and anchorages between Vancouver Island and the BC mainland coast that are surrounded by treacherous tidal passes that make sailing here difficult. The strong tidal currents create rapids and whirlpools that can be prrretty scary if you don't time the tide right. This week we navigate our small sailboat & floating home thru the last of these treacherous rapids on our way to the incredible cruising grounds of the Northern BC Coast THANK YOU for considering supporting our video creations! ►PATREON https://www.patreon.com/allisonandjames ►PAYPAL https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/james...
