We have returned to La Paz for our second winter on our new sailing catamaran, VA. We're spending another winter here and getting so much done before we start our new adventures of sailing to the South Pacific. Living on a boat with your spouse 24/7 can be challenging and Warren and begin to see some of that while transition to our new boat home. #139 ✍️J’ai bien plus de mal à me lever que le soleil qui dore déjà le ciel. Mon capitaine lui, est debout depuis un bon moment. Il aime être sur le pont aux premières lueurs. Il inspecte, savoure puis synthétise la nuit devant sa go pro. Finalement, notre journal de bord se fait maintenant en images. Tout est enregistré, les zones de courants, les premières manœuvres matinales, la direction du vent. On se plait même à tourner nos moments de plaisanterie, juste pour le plaisir de partager. Puis le vent faiblit, spi ou pas spi ? Il y a juste la brise qui lui correspond et tout se prête au jeu des photos. Mais en mer, rien n’est acquis, on s’écoute, on se questionne, on revient sur nos décisions. C’est pourquoi, nous mettons cap aujourd’hui sur Samana, plutôt que Punta Cana qui devait être notre port d’entrée. Et tous les soirs, j’attends le verdict de mon capitaine, que va-t-il choisir comme voilure pour Blacky ? Il scrute, et une fois qu’il a bien évaluer les conditions nocturnes, il arbitre : cette nuit, nous naviguerons sous gennack et foc en ciseau…. The 2022 RORC Caribbean 600 attracted 74 teams with 738 sailors from 32 different nations. The Caribbean classic is back with the most impressive fleet in the 14-year history of the race. Moderate trade winds faded to a lighter breeze during the five days of the race, but that did not stop Jason Carroll’s MOD70 Argo setting a new multihull race record in a thrilling finish with Giovanni Soldini’s Multi 70 Maserati. There was sizzling competition right through all the IRC Classes and the Class40 Division. ClubSwan 125 Skorpios, skippered by Fernando Echavarri, took Monohull Line Honours after a terrific battle with the VPLP/ Verdier 100 Comanche, skippered by Mitch Booth. Christopher Sheehan’s Pac52 Warrior Won was the overall winner, lifting the RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy for the best corrected time under IRC. “Tactically, the RORC Caribbean 600 rates as one of the hardest in the world. It is like a heavyweight boxing match; the lefts and the rights just keep coming at you and you wait for that knockout punch.
