Cette « remise en service » est l’occasion de tirer un trait sur les péripéties de ces derniers mois et de revenir à la compétition. Le départ de la grande course de la Solo Maître CoQ a été donné ce jeudi 21 avril à 12h00 dans des conditions météorologiques très erratiques. Pressés d’en découdre sur cette dernière manche de coefficient 3, les 22 figaristes se sont élancés sans encombre sur les 350 milles nautiques du parcours à l’exception de deux rappels individuels. Malgré des conditions de vent très faibles, les organisateurs de l’épreuve sablaise ont maintenu leur programme. The Annapolis Spring Boat Show puts on the second annual Junior Keelboat Regatta sees 7 of the top sailing high school teams in the Annapolis area leave their dinghies for J80s, thanks to J World Annapolis and the Boatyard Bar & Grill.

Nine years ago the Extreme Sailing Series took high performance racing to the crowds and changed the sailing world. With the short courses and fast action, the series influenced some of the biggest events in sailing. Now in its 10th year the ESS ups the ante once more as the fleet takes to hydrofoils on brand new boats. At the other end of the scale, 900 junior sailors race at one event on Lake Garda. Aside from the spectacle, you can’t help wondering how many of tomorrow’s stars are in there. So we asked some of the world’s top sailors about what the Optimist meant to them. Yeehah! We rafted up with our assigned partner yacht and motored to our first set of locks of the Panama Canal. We were so excited to finally experience what the canal is all about and how this man made wonder of the world works. We spent the night riding 3 locks UP, 26m in total. We then moored in the Gatun Lake over night and repeated the same process the next day except this time going DOWN over 3 locks. I didn’t realise how much of a tourist attraction the canal actually was until I saw a million eyes on La Vagabonde/the yacht we rafted with nearing the end of our transit.
