Spring is finally here! At least it says so in the calendar. The weather, not so much. In this video we're doing the last preparations before putting the sailboat in the water, stepping the mast and sailing of on our first sailing voyage of the year. Never minding it was a bit on the cold side with 8,5 C and pouring rain from time to time. Perfect to see if the foul weather gear is up to the task. Glad to say that everything works perfectly, the though hull seams water tight and the boat is still floating. Follow us in our upcoming video where there's actually a glimpse of the sun. The 2016 Transat, the singlehanded race from Plymouth UK to New York, features three "Ultime" multihulls. The 100ft Maxif, Sedebo and Actual. HUGE boats, it seems impossible to sail one singlehanded. never mind safely fly the main hull! The start of the 2016 Transat singlehanded race was on May 2nd at 2.30pm. Sadly the cold front had not yet appeared so the weather was drizzly and visibility poor. But you can see the two 100ft trimarans Macif and Sodebo plus the "small" 50fters starting. The monohulls started at the far end of the line. The Ultime multihulls were recording speeds in the high 20's and took under 1/2hour to reach the Eddystone, nearly 10 miles from the start

It’s a busy channel, which meant La Vagabonde was constantly copping the wakes of all the traffic. She was also out most nights and not coming back to the mooring ball until 5am... and was constantly complaining of a hangover. We also made the most of being moored near a city for a while, Riley went on a history tour to learn about Panama as he is recently obsessed with pirates and I went to check out an animal shelter so I could FINALLY see a sloth. I could have kept that little baby one and thrown Riles overboard to make room for him our bed HE WAS SO CUTE!!! We prepared La Vagabonde for a 5 day sail to the Galapagos Islands, a place we have been SO excited to get to for a long time now. More new, interesting animals for me to discover. Horaaaaaaay.
