The CF Racing Tough 100 Extreme enduro took place last Saturday and Sunday and wow! Did it live up to its name, this was the 2nd edition of the event from Steve Ireland and his band of superb lieutenants at WOR Events, the organisers had said in some pre-race event info that they had upped the ante for this year’s race, they were not wrong as they provided a fantastic 10 mile lap of mixed mountainous terrain that was littered with challenge after challenge along the way. The biggest challenge however was the rain that descended on the already impressively tough track right from the drop of the start flag to the finish of the race 5 hrs late. Our journey by catamaran up the east coast of the US has been split between open ocean and the ICW. This video is a pretty good snapshot of what our days are like, depending on which route we choose. The ICW is interesting because the landscape is constantly changing, and you really get a sense of the places you’re sailing (driving) past; the open ocean, however, means real sailing - when the wind’s up and the waves are bouncing, there’s nothing quite like that feeling of freedom and the sense of being alive and at one with nature. On the first day we head from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach along the ICW, passing through many bridges. On day two, we head outside from Palm Beach Inlet to Fort Pierce Inlet, then head to a beautiful anchorage on the Indian River. This edited video from a couple of years ago shows Frenchman Patrick on his Strike 15 trimaran using his headcam. He made a couple of changes to my design, most notably by the addition of a trapeze. Also he didn't fit the cockpit "wings" and is using a cut down A class cat rig. Despite the trapeze he is not a gung-ho young sailor - he is in his late 60's. Having said that he is a very experienced multihull sailor having built/owned/sailed many multihulls. Including a Strike 20 trimaran which you can see elsewhere on my youtube channel. In his own words "Some news of my Strike 15 ! On 23 July, I raced the Round of Sanguinet Lake, singlehanded,  with screecher. I finished 13 over 33 on the line after 1h 53 min, behind A class cat and before every other boats, including Dart single and double, ncluding a HC 18 spi (very bad sailed however!). Unfortunately they put me a rating faster than a singlehanded Dart18 (about 1 min a half per hour) and I finished 16 on handicap. In fact I was 13th at the windward leg, but the next leg was too close winded to take advantage of the screecher, and the Darts are faster on close reaching, owing to their longer waterline, so two of them passed me. On the last leg I passed them broad reaching."
