Part two of the knot series. This knot is SO easy to tie! Hands down, the best, fastest, and cleanest knot I have known in my 40 plus years of fishing!

As we continue our Atlantic crossing we leave the lovely British stronghold of Gibraltar and head for Lanzarote. Provisioned up we set sail, all still suffering from the awful Australian flu that we seem to have brought with us from the UK. Watches are becoming more organised now, but with the sea state lively to say the least, I’m struggling with both sea sickness and a hacking cough. My first watch alone turns out ok, and it’s great to tick that one off the list of achievements! This part of the crossing was supposed to take us all the way to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, but a miscalculation of the fuel means Lanzarote is a must. Dee seems to be the only crew member firing on all 4 cylinders, and her medical training is so greatly accepted by all the people on board! Topping up the tanks from canisters we find a diesel bug has taken over, but once filtered out and additive put in we are happy all is going to be ok. Dolphins join us once again, gracefully riding the bow and performing their usual repertoire of moves. Once moored in Lanzarote we enjoy the lovely weather and get a chance to walk around the weekly market. The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. After assessing water damage in the boat from Hurricane Irma it's apparent there's water in all the wrong places!--Water in the oil pan, then, no water coming out the exhaust! All this while living/sleeping out of our very small and packed coupe until we can get the boat back to live-able conditions. We work non-stop this video in hopes to get the boat ready ASAP to get off the expensive docks and begin cruising on the cheap!

Today we are leaving Rose Island and crossing the Yellow Bank to the Exumas! Our first stop will be at Allen's Cay where we plan on spending the night. We are looking forward to exploring the Islands and experiencing all there is to see and do while there. The weather for crossing the Yellow Bank was perfect! We had clear skies and calm water with amazing clarity. Unfortunately we had to motor the whole way to Allen's Cay, but that wasn't so bad. We were able to use our boom tent for the first time and loved having the luxury of sitting in the cockpit in the shade. We would have died of heat without it. Allen's Cay is a MUST SEE!! We were blown away by it's beauty and couldn't believe how much there was to see and explore. We found that some of the sand inside was made up of shell fragments which didn't make for the best holding while anchoring, but found that by moving a few feet and trying again we found better sand. Beware of the large sand bars within the anchorage; We noticed while entering the anchorage that we had to zigzag around sand bars to get further inside. There were maybe 7 others sailboats anchored at Allen's Cay when we arrived, but by early morning we had the whole place to ourselves. By late afternoon 2-3 more sailboats showed up and soon after we were joined by several tour groups. The popular attraction on Allen's Cay are the Iguana Lizards. Tourists are able to feed the lizards snacks by placing them on a long stick and holding it out for the lizards to eat. It is NEVER a good idea to feed the lizards by your own hand, because they WILL BITE you. We heard a story about a 6 year old girl who got her finger bitten clean off by one of the Iguana Lizards here on Allen's Cay a few years back, luckily there were people around who were able to giver her medical attention right away. Later that day we left Allen's Cay and made our way south to Highborne Cay, but we'll share that in the next video! After six weeks away from home, we sail Keeldragger on the final leg returning from Ensenada Mexico to Dana Point, California. This leg begins at the guest dock on Shelter Island in San Diego. We have a nice grey whale sighting and see numerous dolphins along the way.
