Well Leg 7 has had it all. Of the seven yachts in the fleet only two (Brunel and Dongfeng) are still fully operational and battling it out for the line honours. The rest of the fleet (five yachts) are either retired or damaged. Going forward one third of the fleet, Scallywag (Who is on the East Coast of Chile) and Vestas (Who is in Port stanley in the Falkland Islands) may not make the April 22 start of Let 8 in Itajai Brazil. Then AkzoNobel needs hull/keel repairs, Turn The Tide On Plastic needs mast/spreader work anf MAPFRE needs sail replacement and mast repairs. So all that needs to be done before the Leg 8 start to Newport Rhode Island. The race is decimated as the Southern Pacific Ocean has hammered the yachts in the fleet. Keep watching www.boatson.tv for all the latest on this facinating race

Selling our first Sailboat was pretty simple. Getting our first Sailboat out of the water, was not so simple. The journey from Oriental Bay to Evans Bay usually would take around an hour, averaging at 5knots. With strong winds and gusts up to 30 knots, we motored out into Wellington harbour to decide whether it was a good idea to complete this journey today. Out in Wellington harbour, something didn't seem quite right. It was then that we noticed the engine was too far out of the water and sucking in air - causing us to drift towards the rocks besides the harbour. A few minutes of panic and concentration later, the engine was back in the water & we were ready to fight the stormy weather. Want the chance to come aboard and get more involved? Yay we are finally leaving Highborne Cay in The Bahamas! We were anchored there for 5 DAYS while waiting for the 25-30 mph winds to die down and are now sailing south to Shroud Cay in the Exumas! We had a fantastic day of sailing and even hit 6 knots a few times, which is fast for Turtle. Upon arriving to Shroud Cay we saw that there were many boats anchored in the anchorage and we couldn't wait to find a spot of our own to anchor, so we could go explore the island. As we got closer to other boats anchored Kenzie started to smell a burning smell and wondered if it was coming from the nearby boats. In a matter of seconds she realized the smell of smoke was getting stronger and began to worry where it was coming from. Moving from the stern of the boat closer to the companionway she could smell the burning smell coming from down below inside the boat. She quickly went below and saw smoke along the control panel wall and yelled for Randall to come help. While still under sail and passing anchored boats in the shallow bay, Randall quickly came down below and turned off the power to the boat, then went back up to drop the anchor and the sails. We frantically searched for the cause of the smoke, but weren't having any luck! Kenzie was worried about a fire being hidden behind the wall of the boat and grabbed the fire extinguisher to have on hand, just in case. Her curiosity got the best of her though, as she had never used an extinguisher before, and she tested it inside the boat! Just to see what would happen! haha We searched for quite some time before finding that the solar panel charge controller was the cause of the fire. We are so thankful we were on board when this happened and that we were in a safe place where we could drop anchor right where we were to take care of the problem. Thankfully no damage was done to the boat, but the charge controller is toast. *********************************************************************** THANK YOU for watching our videos and for SUBSCRIBING to our YouTube channel! In this episode we talk about the cost of building a shipping container house. But keep in mind, this costs can vary. It all depends on the materials you use and of course the experience of the builder. And remember that these are the costs we had so far as we still didn’t finish our tiny shipping container house. This is the twenty second episode towards our goal of building, by ourselves, a Tiny Shipping Container House and producing a Youtube Series about it called Living Tiny Project. If you like small living spaces and shipping container architecture this channel is for you. New episode every MONDAY!! After 3 days in Mustique, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) moves on to St.Vincent, or "the mainland" of SVG (St.Vincent & the Grenadines). St.Vincent is still untouched by mass tourism, despite the dramatic scenery, both along the coast with black sand beaches, and the interior with lush mountains, verdant rain-forests, waterfalls and an active volcano. We had a road trip along both the east and west coasts, exploring the small villages and bays (Georgetown, Sandy bay Village, Owia Salt Pond, Barrouallie, Wallilabou, Cumberland, Chateaubelair, Mesopotamia Valley). Our highlight was the hike up the La Soufriere Trail. We were based in Blue Lagoon, reportedly the safest anchorage. St. Vincent & the Grenadines 18-25 Mar 2018

| Season 2 | Episode 22 | On this episode I awoke at Pelican Bay after a perfect night on the hook and watch dolphins and a humpback whale pass by the anchorage as I prepare to leave. I made my way over to Little Scorpion and dropped the hook for the night, after which I went snorkeling and exploring the sea caves and rocks surrounding the anchorage. - The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins. While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage. I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes. The journal and Podcast can be seen and heard here: http://svtriteia.com My main go to guidebook for this trip was "Cruising Guide to Southern California's Offshore Islands: With Sailing Directions for the Santa Barbara Channel's Mainland Coast" by Brian Fagen which can be found here : http://amzn.to/2HOxAU1 If you like the podcast please subscribe to it on iTunes and rate / review it as it helps in the ratings! Please reach "A Stern View" in iTunes! I have started a new short video series titled Sea Stories that are only available for my Patrons. If you would like to contribute you can do so here https://www.patreon.com/sailorjames Also if you like this video please give it a thumbs up! It helps me get more viewers! Thanks to all of you for watching and being so supportive with your comments and likes! It makes me really happy to know you like the videos and to hear your feedback. Fair Winds, Sailor James

Easy cruising from Syros to the famous island Mykonos where we anchor all alone again in Ormos Kolpos just south of Mykonos town. Good protection for the strong south winds and an interesting dinghy ride to the harbour. After Mykonos we head for Naxos, passing the ancient town of Delos.

I used to be terrified to the point of paralysis when it came to stepping outside my comfort zone to do something new and meaningful. The fear is still there, but one thing this journey has taught me is, once you step in, outside the comfort zone is really not so scary. In fact, most of the time it's freaking awesome! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Let me know in the comments, or share your own story of stepping outside your comfort zone. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we decided to buy "Family Circus", planned to sail her to New Zealand and started an adventure that changed our lives. SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe-5... I forgot it was Easter Monday..... In New Zealand, they take a holiday seriously and NOTHING was open. The boatyard was not even open and almost no one was working on their boat. Without safety equipment and supplies sanding the hull was not going to happen. So I decided to embrace the holiday and have a fun day with the kids! While working our landscaping job, loud noises scared a baby bunny rabbit so bad, it ran into a swimming pool. I knew if I did not rescue the bunny quickly, it would drown. I ran to get a bucket and scooped the disoriented bunny out of the chilly water.
