I am looking back at my first year as a liveaboard sailor in this video. For many reasons I did not sail as much as I planned too, but I covered 1000 Nm and had a lot of fun. There has been some maintennance going on and I've built an arch for the solar panels and to hold my dingy. Some of the ports I've visited is Valencia, Denia, Calpe, Alicante, Torevieja, Cartagena, Melilla, Nador, Ibiza and Formentera, Porto Pollensa and Cala Ratjada I've had 2 crew members with me for each their part of the adventure. After a decent overnight run south toward Cape Hatteras, we enter the Gulf Stream late in the afternoon on Saturday, November 17. As usual the Stream tosses us about until we finally exit early the following morning. Winds then become southerly ahead of an advancing cold front, so we tack over to starboard and head in an east-southeast direction. The northerlies behind the front provide us with some fast sailing, and we push southeast as fast as our little craft can sail, in hopes of escaping bad weather approaching from the west. The giant schooner Athos, with an overall length of 203 feet and a length over deck of 184 feet, was launched in 2010 at Holland Jachtbouw to considerable acclaim. The design was subject to tank tests with various keels and rudders on a 1:10 scale - an actual 19-foot model was used - as well as extensive wind tunnel tests. Thanks to these preparations, Athos has a graceful aero and hydrodynamic shape, with a deep-V hull, shallow draught keel and integrated centreboard configuration. I have been passionate about windsurfing since a very young age. It started as a hobby and then it was a way of life. I studied at the University of Seville and after a few years of hard work I finally graduated in Architecture and engineering of construction. I started windsurfing when I was 12, in el Yaque, Venezuela, where I’m still living and windsurfing every single day I am lucky to live at the one of the most popular spots of the world, this is where I started, watching famous guys like Gollito, Diony and Yoli training. That caught my attention so much that couldn’t stop training myself to complete my dream – Pro Windsurfer career. I’m on my way and not planning to stop! Back in 1996 I meet Monty at El Puerto de Santa María while we where training on Raceboard gear with Levante. Monty was actually trying to escape from the strong levante to sail his sail boat but ended sailing slalom gear with us. After the training we talk and he left 3 raceboard sails with me to test. Yes that was back in 1996, I sent to him my test reports and used the sails at Raceboard Worlds Championships 1997 in Dunkerque, France, where I manage to take the first place of the heavy fleet. Dee Caffari is a woman with a story that’s not only inspiring, but exceptional. She is the only woman to have circumnavigated the globe alone in both directions in 2006, non-stop, three times! We can really say that she is sharing the same motto as us: Go Beyond. Go beyond is a good description of individuals passion, determination, it challenges you and pushes your boundaries to go where others can’t. It is exactly what Dee Caffari decided to achieve with her life. She, actually, has a background as a school teacher and decided to make a complete carrier change with sailing. During her experiences on sea, she realized that her office, in other words the ocean, was changing! Year after year, she could see more visible plastic on the ocean and this phenomenon was expanding. It has become a man-made global catastrophe. In a world of convenience living, we’re now so addicted to plastic that we’re drowning in it. It is time to make things happen and change. The plastic was only invented 100 years ago but humans are consuming it more and more, it lasts forever… However, it is now in our hands to make things change and to reduce our consumption of plastic. Dee Caffari leaded a young mixed gender crew for the Volvo Oceam Race while promoting an environmental campaign to Turn the Tide on Plastic. She is supporting a cause she is passionate about and the younger generation will follow her throughout her campaign. My mother is a Southern Californian & my father is Argentinean. At the age of 10 months my parents moved to a tiny West Indian Island called Bequia, part of the St. Vincent and the grenadines chain. At the age of 8, my mother decided to move further on to the South American Caribbean Island known as “Isla Margarita” (Venezuela). I grew up in “Playa El Yaque”, a world known windsurfing destination. I would say El Yaque was where I was born into windsurfing. I spend most of my time on Margarita and Maui for waves & all around sailing. I am really happy to have such a life working together with Mother Nature. Ramon Pastor ESP-72 : Windsurfing is my passion and my life. I live in Tarifa in the South of Spain, one of the best spots on the Planet to sail and train my favorite discipline “Slalom” together with the others PWA guys living here. Since then I discovered windsurfing in waves. Here in Tarifa I hit the water every time I can and enjoy every moment. I travel as much as possible to find good waves conditions and train, because I love it and because I started competing in the PWA Wave Tour, which is already a dream made true. And now I want to get better at it!
