We explore the local grocery store and where we were pleasantly surprised! This market in Luperon is clean and organized. You can find much more than you could ever see in the Bahamas. At least where we went. There is also a "veggie" truck that would come to the marina in Luperon Harbor three times a week. Fresh, off-the-farm, produce... so amazing! We also get a visit from our friends Brian and Linda. Their cruise just so happened to stop in Puerto Plata, which is a short hour drive to Luperon. One Ocean Expeditions is proud to partner with scientists as they conduct important research on board our vessels. Glimpse these gentle giants from above as Marine Mammal scientists perform non-invasive suction cup tagging. DR ARI FRIEDLAENDER is a marine ecologist at UC Santa Cruz and the California Ocean Alliance. Ari and his team conduct research in Antarctica to improve our understanding of whales, focusing on underwater behaviour and ecological links between marine mammals and their environments. By analysing tag-derived data collected onboard with OOE, we can learn about how whales interact with their environment and how they are affected by climate change. Ari has partnered with One Ocean Expeditions, the World Wildlife Fund and Antarctic Wildlife Research Fund to promote the development of marine protected areas in Antarctica.
