It was time to leave Percy Island as there were strong south easterlies on the way, 25 to 30 knotts expected. We set off to Curlew Island, around 30 nautical miles away - very light winds and we had to motor sail most of the way taking about 6hrs. Lots of small rocky islands along the way as we passed the Beverly Group of islands and Curlew was part of the Guardfish Cluster. We anchored in Davidson Bay with one other vessel and rode out the bulk of the strong winds. Set sail the next day with an early start, for Scawfell Island. Strong winds made for an exciting day and we had a great sail, averaging around 6 knotts but peaking at 8. Scawfell Island was very protected in Recluse Bay and there were quite a few vessels nestled in here. Pretty beaches and bays but we didn't go ashore. Next day we headed off to Thomas Island, which appears in our next episode. What camera gear do we use? The Ha'api island group in Tonga (pronounced Ha-pie) is one of the jewels of the Pacific, the coral is relatively unspoiled, whales abound and the white sandy beaches beckon. There are over 60 islands in the group but only 17 are inhabited so it's easy to find your own deserted tropical island, this is the place to come if you want to get away from it all!! As keen divers and free divers we especially enjoyed the underwater topography of Ha'api, this is the place where caves and rock tunnels littered with coral tempt the adventurous diver in for a swim through - our daughter Bella is especially good at this! We also got to spot our first ever leopard shark (one of natures wonders) and of course we saw whales and even managed a quick swim with them! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
One of the most important things a blue water cruiser needs is good tasting drinkable water. HECK - cruisers drink a lot (and some of those liquids need to be water)! You can buy bottled water but it gets expensive, is heavy to lug around and it takes up valuable space. Your best bet is to obtain and/or produce and store your own water in your water tank or tanks. In this video, I’m going to show you the three different filtrations systems we use on Britican to ensure our water is drinkable and tastes good too. FRENCH AND ENGLISH SUBTITLE IN THE VIDEO. The Foundation teams, always taking real action, accompanied by teams from the organisation NOW! (Local NGO supporting us on this stopover) went to the island of Gaya, located just opposite Kota Kinabalu, to visit the heart of one of the villages, home to refugees from the Philippines, built on piles, over the sea. The village is home to more than 1500 refugees with children, families and animals who live just a few centimetres above a layer of plastic waste sometimes buried several metres deep. It is terrifying, shocking and unfortunately, these young children whom we talked to have never known anything other than this universe of plastic, more and more plastic, everywhere! For them, throwing waste into the sea and living on metres of waste buried in the seabed has become an inevitable normality! The Race for Water Foundation is dedicated to the preservation of the water and the oceans in particular. Today, seriously under threat from plastic pollution, it is imperative that this essential resource for life is protected. To prevent plastic waste from reaching the waterways and oceans by developing social models and business models that give value to plastic waste and hence encourage its collection. Jeanneau 410 Sun Odyssey 2020 video guided tour by: Ian Van Tuyl at Cruising Yachts the Jeanneau Dealer. For additional information about this exciting new model from Jeanneau please feel free to contact me at any time day or night at 1-619-507-4416 or ivtyachtsales@gmail.com AN INVITING DECK PLAN Sailing was never so enjoyable aboard a 41-foot sailboat. With her powerful hull, the Sun Odyssey 410 perfects the art of sailing and comfort on board. The model is particularly secure, featuring sidedecks without obstacles and comfortable coaming. All is as with her predecessors from the 8th generation, the Sun Odyssey 410 benefits from a lower boom, which facilitates access to the sail and increases the sail area. Centralised winches, which can be controlled directly from the cockpit, also contribute to safety on board. AN INTERIOR DEDICATED TO WELL-BEING AND HARMONY The interior is at once surprising and consistent with the Sun Odyssey line, where innovation serves to heighten the aesthetic and the level of comfort. Designed by Jean-Marc Piaton and his crew, the interior design reveals stunning potential for a sailboat of this size. The partitions and the distribution of space were designed in a somewhat atypical fashion in order to maximise the interior space, both visually and physically. The eye easily follows the uninterrupted interior lines. The interior is at once surprising and consistent with the Sun Odyssey line, where innovation serves to heighten the aesthetic and the level of comfort. Designed by Jean-Marc Piaton and his crew, the interior design reveals stunning potential for a sailboat of this size. MULTIPLE INTERIOR LAYOUTS AVAILABLE The Sun Odyssey 410 is offered in multiple versions with different interior layouts, with two or three cabins. The space can also be configured as a very large workshop.
On account of the contrary Gulf Stream there is no sailing direct from the mouth of the Chesapeake to Key West, Florida. I see three realistic possibilities for this passage, preferring the one that leads through the Providence Channel in the Bahamas. What to expect when you come sail with us? https://ryanandsophie.com/welcome-onboard-what-to-expect-when-you-come-sail-with-us/ In this week’s video, we welcome our first guests onboard, including a fun pair of sisters followed by my little brother and his boyfriend. We have been inviting our friends and family to come visit us onboard ever since we left Stockholm last year. But surprisingly, no one wanted to come and spend their holiday sailing the North Sea with us (wonder why?) This year, they all came at once! We spent most of august with friends and family onboard. And since this was an opportunity to get out of boat chores and do some thorough exploration, we take you with us to the Aeolian Islands, the Strait of Messina, Catania and the beautiful town of Siracusa. In the meantime, our guests learn about some rougher aspects of life onboard! Yep, it’s not always sunshine and roses ;) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** JOIN THE CREW! ** Join our virtual crew of Patrons at: https://www.patreon.com/ryanandsophiesailing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** MUSIC ** 🎶 In this video: ANBR - Sleping in the middle of nowhere (Artlist) Trabant - Lunch break in Milan (Epidemic Sound) Chris Shards - Cindy (Epidemic Sound) Sight of wonders - Salty hair (Epidemic Sound) Joe E Lee - Hawaiian Conquistador (Epidemic Sound) Trabant - At the Sicilian market (Epidemic Sound) Jerry Lacey - Optimist at Heart (Artlist) The places - Waset (Artlist) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). Our offshore medical kit has come together over many years of cruising! It’s based on recommendations from marine physicians and our own personal experiences of the trip. We've wanted to make this video for a long time and we hope it helps you to to decide what is important for you to have onboard! Please visit https://svdelos.com/safety for links and resources mentioned in this video. In this video we cover how the kit came together, how it's organized, and what the major components are. We even recount some of the medical problems we've had and how we've dealt with them, both where medical care is and isn't available. We highly recommend visiting a physician specializing in marine medicine that can tailor a kit for your offshore plans. Fair winds, peace and love! The Delos Crew Wanna binge watch? Antigua! Yep. It's a bold call but we can claim it. We've been to pretty much every part of the Caribbean, and Antigua and Barbuda take the claim for us. Today we visit Antigua (Barbuda's next week!), and while they could not be more different, that's what makes them such a good pairing. Antigua has it all - Restaurants, Resorts, History, Nightlife - and Barbuda has pretty much nothing other than raw, unspoiled beauty. Yep, we love it here. Watch and find out why... POSTING DAILY ON SOCIAL: https://www.instagram.com/the_sailing_family/ https://www.facebook.com/the-sailing-family-voyage/ ----------------- ABOUT US: WE ARE THE SAILING FAMILY! Welcome aboard. We are a family of five sailing around the world on our "dream boat," a performance catamaran named "Archer." Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world from the East Coast of the US to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences with family and friends via YouTube, and by happenstance created the first "sailing channel." But more than anything, we realized what an incredible experience that first trip was and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with our kids. We want to share with them the importance of taking time to be with family. To show them a world outside of the one they grew up in. We want them to appreciate how lucky we are to experience (and to care for) the natural beauty of this world. But mostly we want to spend time with our kids during these formative years and create lasting memories as a family. That's why we are "The Sailing Family." OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red 2014 Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort. It's also a speed demon, which is important when you want to cover large distances of water before the weather changes. Lastly, it's backed by the manufacturer with outstanding customer service and aftermarket support, so we believe she will hold her value well. And, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal. At the time of posting this we are dealing with a repair in the South Pacific, and in 2020 we hope to be in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. By 2021 we will be in the Med and close to completing our circumnavigation. THANKS for watching all. Please leave a comment to tell us what you think and let us know if you have questions.
