In this week's video, the Captain moves the boat northbound from Fort Lauderdale to Pampano Beach. Cruising solo is no problem for this guy! He unties Lost Cat from her slip at the Bahia Mar dock and hops aboard to navigate her out of the marina. Turns out the slip we booked was too small for Lost Cat, so a last minute phone call and a late night run to north Miami, and Lost Cat and the Captain dock up at a new dock. No sailing this time, just straight motoring up the Intracoastal Waterway. He captured 3 of the 12 bridges that he passed under that day. (Guess the GoPro turned itself off. We're making steps towards the next boat, but it might not be quite what you're thinking. We've gone and bought an RV. Yes... a big, ugly, rolling, turd of an RV. There is a method to our madness, so stick around while we explain what the heck is going on. Really, what it comes down to is this: 1) Gotta keep the First Mate happy. 2) First Mate has always wanted to go road trippin' 3) First Mate supports my sailing dream. 4) I kinda owe it to the First Mate to do her road trippin' thing. 5) The First Mate is always right. We plan to buy our next boat in Canada, and we thought the RV would make a great base of operations while we search for the next boat. That was the idea that spawned the RV purchase, HOWEVER... the idea kinda grew a bit to also include some dedicated land travel before we focus on using it for the boat search. Back to back weekends at the Isthmus, Two Harbors, Catalina Island. Eddie joins in as crew. We encounter light winds but have a pleasant motor. Winds increase for mooring pickup. Captain Keeldragger learns how to start an dinghy outboard motor. Buffalo Milk is served at the bar.. he have a beer or three and hike back to Catalina Harbor as well as hike towards Fourth of July and Cherry Cove. On the way back we do a little motorsailing, picking up the pace ot 7 knots. We spot a few dolphins and a Humback Whale (a first for the captain!)
