Ein sehr besonderes Projekt, denn wir suchen die eierlegende Wollmilchsau unter den gebrauchten Segelbooten und das für unter 100.000 € ! Jörg möchte sich alle Fahrtgebiete und Routen offen halten und das bedeutet, das Schiff muss gut für's Ostsee Segeln sein, für eine Atlantiküberquerung und eben auch für eine Weltumsegelung. Das ist eine ordentliche Aufgabe! Allerdings natürlich nicht zu schwer, denn wir haben gute Optionen bei der Hand und 2 davon besichtigen wir in diesem Video! At the time of publishing (April 18, 2020), James and I have been self-quarantining in the Bahamas for nearly a month. We have made the Berry Islands our home-away-from-home aboard Lost Cat. In the third episode of our Berry Islands adventures, we start anchored up on the west side of Great Harbour Cay. Nearby is a sunken barge that we explore, and come across my favorite of all ocean life - a sea turtle! We decide to sail over to the east side of the island to check out a sunken airplane wreck at Cisten Cay. On the way, we pull out a sail we have never flown before, the spinnaker. During our month in Marina Port Ghalib we prepared the boat, provisioned a awful lot and now we are ready to explore the red sea again! Today, the 17th of April 2020 we left marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. When Therese entered The Bahamas by air, she only got 30 days through immigration. Which means, the date for renewal is coming up, and before we leave Rock Sound to explore the Exumas we NEED this extension!! Mostly because we want to explore the Exumas without a timeline, but also because Therese's birthday is coming up - so we really don't wanna stress. We go provisioning with Alex and Cory from "Wildly Intrepid Sailing", and we head out on our adventures with sharks, lobster, mahi and more iguanas in sight. Also- who knew that you don't need a drone to get amazing sailing shots of your boat... you just need a buddy boat!!! Writing this, we are thinking about heading back to the states, the virus and circumstances in the Bahamas are limited and restrictive as well, and a move is definitely in the near future. A Double Tack is a useful tool to get sailors out of a tight cover and is used frequently in team racing against other boats. To execute the best Optimist Double Tack, the first tack of the manouvre has to be absolutely flawless! Episode 1: Five Dazcats on the 2019 Royal Ocean Racing Club Rolex Fastnet - pre-race preparations with D1495 Hissy Fit and D1295 Slinky Malinki. Four of the Dazcats and one of the Multihull Centre boats were armed with Dazcams (actually GoPros). The result? A mini-series of previously unseen footage of the iconic Fastnet race viewed from four different models of Dazcats. This episode introduces you to two of the boats in the days before the race. 4 days after departing Hobart Australia to sail 1,250nm across the Tasman Sea to Picton, New Zealand the crew of the Ocean Gem had to face a steering cable failure in the early morning hours, followed by two crash gybes that snapped the boom preventer and broke the boom in half. What followed 500nm later was the failure of the steel emergency tiller and then the autopilot, causing total steering loss and ultimately a call for a rescue tow from while mid Cook Strait and 53nm from Nelson. This is a tale of determination, resilience and creative thinking by a crew of six who faced 500nm of hand steering a 12 ton yacht in seas of up to 4 metres and winds up to 29 knots, using emergency steering constructed from 2 block and tackles, an emergency tiller and bow sprit before this eventually failed too.
