Access to Laoshan is easy as the mountain is located a short 20 km from the city center of Qingdao. We can hop on the 104 bus (1 RMB) and it takes us directly to the Laoshan Tourist Center where the buses depart for both Jufeng and Taiqing all day long. Make sure you sit on the right side of the bus as the bus route to Taiqing is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous with endless ocean views! If you get off at the first bus stop, you can access the path we took up the canyon! We were pleasantly surprised by the many attractions along the path including waterfalls, fruit trees, temples, tea fields, vegetable patches, pagodas, caves, and incredible panoramas. This is a hike not to be missed, but it's not for the faint of heart. The path is steep, but accessible as it is all well maintained stairs. It's a good idea to read up on Taoism prior to hiking so you have a better understanding of what you are experiencing especially when you finish at the Taiqing Palace Taoism Temple. We stopped for a couple of nights at Charleston South Carolina at Tolers Cove Marina. They have a nice, new clean shower. So new there were no hanger locations for towels and clothes. We started out early the next morning to squeeze out of our tight little marina and continue down the coast to St Augustine Florida Our passage back to the ocean is peaceful and, other than a couple of elusive dolphins, uneventful... I sat the camera on the coach roof to catch a typical transit out of the marina, down the river, and out to the ocean. I did this a few times on this trip. I love seeing this type of video, but I don't see many channels doing this. There's probably good reason. Let us know in the comments below if you'd like to see more of this, if you like it sped up or if you'd like to see it play out at regular speed. Lisa and I are considering setting up a second channel just to run ambient video where the camera just runs for a while. On se fait remorquer une 3e fois, cette fois-ci jusqu’à Beaufort en Caroline du Sud. If you are enjoying our videos, please support us on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/sailingmokara After 2 and a half months in Colombia, we were finally given permission to leave and head to Linton Bay in Panama. Getting permission had been a very time consuming process and we needed help from the British Embassy to get approval. We also needed to specify a departure date in advance, which can be tricky, as sailing is dependant on weather conditions. One thing we do know is that weather can change quickly, but the rule in Colombia is that you need to specify a date and time and leave 4 hours either side of the time specified. In this instance we were given 12 hours either side of the time specified. Departure day came quickly and we had a great farewell from all the other sailors on the dock. We motored out into the bay feeling quite excited but a little bit nervous at the same time. In Nathan’s excitement, he fell down the front locker hatch spilling a treasured drink he had in his hand and hurting his ribs in the process. Thankfully he was ok. In pain, but ok. We were a bit sad to leave behind the friends we had made, who were either not allowed to leave Colombia yet, or were there to stay out of choice so that they could explore when lockdown ended. When news got out on Facebook that we were departing, we were contacted by numerous other sailors also wanting to leave, but not knowing how to get approval. Now, out at sea, we felt quite alone and more at risk than ever before. We had the Caribbean Sea to ourselves and could see no other yachts on either AIS or Marine Traffic. When sailing, it is always comforting knowing there are other yachts out there. We rely on each other for support when things go wrong at sea. Don’t get me wrong, ships often play an incredible part in assisting yachts in distress at sea, but manoeuvring such a large vessel to assist a small yacht can be very challenging so we do like to ‘Buddy Boat’ when possible on longer passages. The first day and night we had fairly good wind, then as predicted, the wind died for day 2 & 3 dropping down to 1.5knts. We sail well in 15knts to 25knts so 1.5knts of wind will not shift Mokara. We also started seeing more and more lightning and there were a few squalls, one of which hit us despite us trying to avoid it for quite some time. The wind was about 6 Knots at the time, just enough to sail but we could see the wind and rain about to arrive so we packed the Genoa sail away to prepare for it. The squall arrived and the wind shifted 180 degrees and picked up to over 20 knots quickly. The temperature also dropped to a point where I felt cold. Quite refreshing and Mokara got a fresh water rinse for the first time in a ling time. We had black dust which had collected on the rig running down the side of the boat! Day 2 & 3 were good and bad for us. As there was no wind, we had to motor which I don’t like doing. Using the wind to sail is free, far more peaceful, and it is what Mokara is designed to do. The upside of not having wind was that there was the flattest sea we had ever seen. So flat that you could see the cloud reflections in the water quite clearly. The dolphins visited us regularly and put on amazing displays. We also saw schools of tuna jumping, but sadly we were not lucky enough to catch one. As we neared Linton Bay in Panama we started to see more Sargasso weed which acted as a large plastic trap. We had made the effort on our passage to pick up plastic whenever possible, but the amount of plastic stuck in the Sargasso weed was more than we could manage to deal with, we needed a massive net attached to the side of the boat that we could scoop it all up with. We made it into Linton Bay on the morning of the 3rd day. We were happy to see more yachts at anchor than expected and that we had made it there without having any issues with lightning. We are now in an area where there is a lot of rain along with an incredible amount of lightening. From what we have heard, there is a 5% chance of being struck. Grrrr. As we have nowhere else to go that is safer than here so we are now at risk of a lightening strike, we just need to keep our fingers crossed and hope that we are not the unlucky ones. We never planned to be in this area during the lightning season. Our plan was to sail with the good weather patterns of the world… COVID has shown and taught us that plans change, and you just need to make the best of a situation you are in, which is what we hope to do! Learning about the countries and cultures we visit, the different biomes, ecosystems, and habitats the animal species we encounter live in. The diversity of the underwater life we see. The weather patterns and the difference they make to how people live and the languages spoken. Nathan and Dylan want to share these learning experiences with children around the world by making easy to understand, short films on a variety of different subjects, that they research, narrate and help produce. They wanted to call this series "Adventure School" Welcome to Episode 1 of "Adventure School" which is all about Mangroves and how important they are to our planet. Before we found out more about mangroves we did not realise what an impact they make to reduce global warming. Did you know that a patch of mangrove trees can remove 10 times more carbon from the atmosphere as the same size patch of terrestrial forest can. They also play a vital role in providing a safe nursery for fish and small marine animals. Their most important function is acting as a buffer to coastlines against strong waves, and storm surges. Dylan and Nathan researched Mangroves on their own and then came together to compare the facts they found in order to put together this video. We then took them out into the mangroves to film and see all the things they had read about. The drone footage shows the vast area of mangroves we are currently in and how lush and dense the forest around us is. We were also very lucky to come across a sloth sleeping in the mangrove trees. We were within a meter of him, and he was not one bit worried about our presence. We will be bringing out a range of different subjects over our adventure, so make sure you keep coming back to check if there are any subjects that may help you with your learning. Episode 132 Part 2 of our water maker install. Running the electrical for it. Which ended up with a bit of a water maker problem..... our power supply couldn't cope with the inrush current to start the DC Motor. We have thought about it long and hard and decided going with a DC to DC converter is a more reliable and efficient option even though it may cost us more but still cheaper than replacing a 24v DC motor to a 12v DC motor as the whole system is automated it would require a lot more modifications to convert the whole system... non the less we made a plan to test out our water maker and we made some pretty good clean water!! During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time.
