Dirt, rocks, a 28 mile long road, and petrified wood... that's The Petrified Forest National Park. It's also amazing, breathtaking, beautiful and mysterious. Thanks, Tambi, for opening my eyes to that. Honestly, I probably would never see places like this if it weren't for Tambi. It's been a mental battle, at times, to do this whole RV thing instead of sailing right now, but places like this make it worthwhile. Probably the weirdest part, for me, is looking at all of the pieces of petrified wood and realizing that they were already petrified when the dinosaurs were alive. Plus, I bet that for every piece of petrified wood that is visible above ground, there's got to be 1000s more still buried. Cool place. Pretty dirt. Long road. Rocks kinda shaped like trees. ~ Ben, Tambi, & Molly [ SUPPORT THE CHANNEL ] https://patreon.com/sailboatstory | Join the crew and help keep the cameras rolling! https://paypal.me/sailboatstory | Make a donation and help upgrade our camera gear! After 41 days in Corona lockdown we dare to leave the Dutch Antilles heading around 700 nautical miles to Panama (only place accepting us) into our next quarantine, hoping for borders around us to slowly open up again for us to be able to continue our travels. One last epic tugboat free dive and off we went with speeding records past Aruba where we spotted a huge unknown moving object aiming at us at in pitch-black night without any lights on. Scary stuff we tell you! Join us sailing the notorious windy horns of Columbia considered by many circumnavigators as one their worst crossings - waves crashing into our cockpit to finally reach the entrance of the famous Panama Canal. Experience us doing different boat projects in quarantine, accompanied by joyful marine species jumping around us.

MY LONGEST VIDEO YET!! 😁👨‍🔧⛵ WOOOH! There is quite a lot going on in this video - installing a HEAP of BEAUTIFUL Rosewood to finish (almost) the water tank tops/saloon seats; assembling the return saloon seat-come house battery space; using an Oxygen Rich Flame on the HDPE water-tanks; discussing some philosophical points re. "WHY WOULD YOU BUILD A BOAT?"; assembling and installing the Cabin 3 single berth (mostly); discussing AT LENGTH (4 & a half minutes!) water-tank VENTING; AND FINALLY - THE SALOON AND SINGLE BERTH CUSHIONS & MATTRESS ARE DONE!! WOOHOO! 😁🕺=dancing emoji There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... Can we make MOONSHINE and still live off solar power? Join us for a typical day of our self isolation on our 53 foot sailboat home! It just so happens to be our 56th day of being away from civilization in this uninhabited island paradise. We wake up, do some normal stuff like eat and all that, but then Brian decides to use our excess solar power by brewing up a batch of moonshine. He also wires up our power inverter so we can run the laundry off the solar and batteries and save even more diesel fuel. After our daily chores are done I head into the island for a walk and Brian goes spear fishing to catch us some dinner, which turns out to be a conch and grouper chowder. YUMMY!!! Life is simple but good out here for our little family. Hope you enjoy this peak into our lives living on a boat in isolation. From our anchorage in Oracabessa we sailed the short distance west to Ocho Rios, a major tourist center in Jamaica. Ocho Rios is the place where Glen’s parents had their happiest holiday, back in 1967. By record of his Mum’s diary, we visited their hotel and all the places they enjoyed during their 10 days holiday. Their hotel, The Shaw Park, still existed and even after 53 years it appeared to be surprisingly unchanged. The beautiful Dunn’s River Falls, with its amazing river cascading all the way to the sea, turned out to be the highlight of Jamaica for us. Glen sprinkled some of his parents ashes in all places that they had enjoyed. We also visited Fern Gully, Shaw Park gardens and the Runaway Caves near to Discovery Bay. 4-6 Mar 2020

We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon

5 juillet, cinq heures ...

It was about 700 nautical miles to sail our catamaran from South Africa to Namibia. Sailing there in winter time is not much fun – very cold southern sea and wet, dense fog. Sometimes for 20 minutes, sometimes for hours. This area is well known as a fog belt, which is caused by the difference in the temperature between the chilly Benguela ocean current and the warm Namib desert sand. The first night was clear and warm. And the Milky Way at 10 pm stood as a rainbow, running down somewhere over the horizon. Second night - just a few hours before dawn, the milk of fog was wrapped around us, so dense, not even blown away by a strong wind. All windows and doors on our Looping catamaran were closed to keep a little bit warmth inside, we stayed wrapped in plaids and double jackets. We run our AIS and the radar non stop. Every 10 minutes, the radar woke up and looked around. White screen. Nobody. We knew it’s useless to go out and look around, but still did it. We saw nothing, just the soft glowing of the navigation lights in the fog. It feelt like in a horror film - sailing into nowhere. Having AIS even didn’t prevent us from a very unpleasant encounter with 4 diamond mining ships at night. They were anchored on a mile-long cable and only one ship run his AIS. There were no lights around. Only the dark gray milk of the night fog and a fast sailing catamaran. After few days sailing we arrived to Luderitz. A small town in the middle of Namib desert engaged in fishing and diamond industry. We were very heartly welcomed by the port administration and met many wonderful people. And at last but not least - Tali had the opportunity to speak Russian, because the port captain was Russian from Saint Petersburg. To be honest – Luderitz was maybe the most friendly port on our way. Agathe beach, Diaz Point and for sure – Kolmanskop, the Ghost Town. In a short words – don’t miss Luderitz on your way. And don’t miss our film about Kolmanskop: Kolmanskop – From Diamonds to Dust. Highlights of Namib desert. https://youtu.be/-V2-WzB_3iE The next leg of our sailing adventure was from Luderitz to Walvis Bay. And again – 2 nights of sailing in dense fog. Only a few hours before we approach the entrance of Walvis Bay the sun came out and we realized that we’re like in a zoo – dolphins, seals, whales and a lot of birds – flamingoes, albatroses, pelicans... And finally a sea lion jumped on the sugarscoops of out boat. In Walvis Bay we rented a 4x4 expedition car to go to the Erindi Game Reserve and to Sossusvlei to see the highest dunes in the world. We left Walvis Bay on a sandstorm when the dunes were building up just on the main road and drove through most of Namibia, exploring all the famous highlights such as game parks and the Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Namib-Naukluft national park. Fantastic safari – cheetahs, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, elephantes, zebras. Amazing landscapes. Namibias paved and gravel roads. Beautiful sunsets and braii. Deadvlei with hundreds of dead trees. Incredible sculptures made by nature. Climbing the highest dunes in the world. Beautiful medley about red sand dunes. Light and shadows. In this film you can see just a glimpse of this trip. A whole documentary of our 4x4 road trip through Namibia - from ocean cruisers to land cruisers: Namib desert 4x4 road trip. Highlights of Namib desert. https://youtu.be/eHCF4fHlQBw Finally it was time to say Goodbye to Africa where we spent more than 2 years and sail to the next continent – to South America. We have loved living in China for the past 4 years! China has so much to offer and especially our amazing city of Qingdao. Who doesn't love living in a beautiful, safe place at the foot of the stunning mountains and on the sea? Surrounded by all this beauty, we have quietly endured one utterly frustrating aspect of living as an ex-pat in a Communist country: BANKING! The government has put so many regulations and restrictions on sending money out of the country (to avoid money laundering) that they make it nearly impossible to get your money out. You can only send out what you have earned and not a dime more. And, you have to prove you have paid the tax on it prior to sending. Our school only paid us 45 days after we worked AND to send money to our home, we are required to show that we have paid our tax and that document is not available until a month after we have been paid (so that's 2.5 months later). Then, you go to the bank with your stack of documents, IDs, and a backpack full of survival equipment (snacks, phone charger, kindle, etc) because you will sit at the teller window for at least 2 hours and for me up to 7 hours; sadly, I hold the record. The bank manager does everything in her power not to allow the money out of the country. You have to literally remain in your seat at the window, hold your ground, and your bladder, to get the wire confirmation receipt. And, that does not guarantee they have released the wire...sometimes it takes up to 24 hours for them to send it. Banking in China will not be missed! Enjoy the video - this is the 7-hour marathon that I endured in my final visit to the bank to send money home! Disclaimer: We do realize that this is our limited perspective (and the perspective of 30 other expats that work with us) on the banking experience and that in other parts of China and in other banks, the experience might be more efficient and more pleasant. We certainly hope that's the case! #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. This historical video of Offshore Sailing School was produced when the School had reached a 100k graduate milestone. Who would have believed that by 2020, we would have taught more than 150,000 adults and families how to sail, race, and bareboat charter, plus host over 100 flotilla sailing vacations all around the world, and we'll host the 20th Annual Performance Race Week event in 2020. And in the past 10 years we've raised more than $175,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find the cures for blood cancers. We've been busy, and have all of our loyal students, fabulous instructors and staff to thank!
