During lockdown in Antigua we found ourselves with time on our hands for projects that we don’t usually have time for. Lacking temptations like drinking with other cruisers, we tackled a job that’s been on the back burner for a while … recaulking our teak decks. After many years of exposure to the elements, the caulk had started to pull away from the adjacent teak. This left small gaps between the wood and the caulk that allowed water to infiltrate under and would eventually lead to the teak detaching from the deck, as it’s glued down. This video isn’t so much of a how-to as a quick look at how we did it. There are tutorials on the web for teak deck restoration and care, and these are probably required viewing for anyone wanting to take on this job. Vlog#25 We sail out of Cabo San Lucas and off to get propane. We thought it would take a quick hour maybe! but it turned into an all day event. We called the day before and we were told that we could buy it at the marina fuel dock, but upon arrival, they didn't actually sell it there. So off onto a big adventure to try and get a ride there! We dandy plan on staying overnight there, but a quick stop in town, but turned out we had to as we didn't make it back to the boat until 530 at night. We left the next morning on our way to our next stop, Los Frailes. As we dropped the anchor, Jessica threw it into reverse to back down on the anchor, and nothing happened. We were dead in the water! After going ashore and asking everyone we could find, we finally found an extremely nice expat on the beach that let us borrow a tool we needed to fix our boat! They even radioed to us to let us know that there was a truck with fresh organic food if we wanted to come buy some, which of course we did!! It was amazing. The Sao Vicente Canal, most of the time it's a rough patch of ocean to navigate. Which is the case in this episode. It was at times harrowing, with winds sustained at 33kts. It was an uphill battle against wind, current and waves. I took on water and my friend Peter tore his sail and lost his anchor. We were two boats to take on the Sao Vicente canal on our way to the island of Sao Nicolau. Peter with his crew, Lily, Aleck and Jen and me solo sailing. I thought I was accustomed to the conditions here, but once again not this time. I dont think I will ever be accustomed to extreme Cape Verde sailing. This is also no bullsh*t sailing! Hey guys! We've had no issues with major shoaling while going down the ICW until entering North Carolina. After running aground a couple of times while entering areas that have shoaled pretty badly, you better bet we're keeping an extra close eye on those navigation buoys, channel markers and our depth finder! Sailing is over for us while we take a break to head back home to Colorado for the summer, but first we have a TON of boat work to complete to get our girl ready and safe to sit in the marina for the next four months. There is always a long list of work that is needed every time we leave our sailboat anywhere for extended amount of time, and this particular time we have opted to leave here in the water versus taking here out to sit in dry dock, or on the hard as its called. NEW SALONA 46 Yet another great sailboat by AD Boats shipyard The editors of More magazine, Croatian nautical publication, were given an exclusive opportunity to test the new sailboat built by the shipyard from Solin. Salona 46 derives from their earlier models known for the exceptional performance, comfort and craftsmanship. The interior and the exterior of the new model, signed by J&J Desing and Salona Design, have been upgraded considerably and the same applies to the hull shape and rigging. The sailboat is elegant in every aspect and offers more luxury and comfort. She performs well and even when on low-wind we were sailing fast. The shipyard is shifting towards green products. Salona 46 is fitted with an electric engine that has a 10 hours autonomy at the speed of 6.5 knots or maximum speed of 8.5 knots and 3 hours of sailing. The batteries are charged by two OceanVolt electric engines /generators that can charge two 30 kW batteries from 0 to 100 per cent in 20 hours of sailing at the speed of 5 knots. The consumption and the production of eletric energy, logically, increase depending on the speed. The boat has all the features of a modern and comfortable cruiser racer with many elegant and ergonomic solutions. It is convenient for a multi-day sailing with family or friends with no need to go ashore and, as far as we can tell, it stands a good chance in a regatta. Jarhead, outright winner of the 2020 BOV Autumn Regatta took some time to take a short video clip of some of the onboard action. "The race consisted of very short courses which was very tactical as racing was close and tight. This meant that we had to be on edge all the time and it required us to be looking at all the boats on the race course including the smaller boats to see the wind shifts. The team was not only very good and determined to do well, but a fun bunch, lots of laughs aboard and joking around. Salt has been used to preserve food for thousands of years. The Dry Pork or Lomo Curado is very typical from Spain (similar recipes exist in Italy and other Mediterranean countries) and delicious.
