We were so happy to be in such a beautiful scenery sharing time with our little community here at the Marina that we decided to stay in Honfleur for a bit longer. Winter mooring is really cheap here… and as you already know, WE LOVE CHEAP! In the next few weeks we’ll be exploring la belle Normandy and getting a few jobs done before we start our trip down the canals. It’s Saturday before Christmas and it’s market day in Honfleur. The market itself is in the centre of town and it spreads out around the inner basin. The stalls are filled with local produce; cheese, saucisson, cider, all kinds of seafood… and the streets are full of life. After a couple of rounds around it Stuart spotted one of his favourites: merguez, so we bought a few of them and a baguette and headed home for lunch. As we are not going to be using the dingy during our trip through the canals and its floor needs fixing we get to work and put a new patch on it. Twenty four hours to dry and job done! We haven’t used any of the outboards since we got to France so we check if they work in case they need a service before we put them away. It’s been a long time since Stuart got to play on the dingy… I think that this was enough motivation to get the job done. Klaipeda ist eine sehr interessante und abwechslungsreiche Stadt. Das ist auch gut so, da wir hier über zwei Wochen hängen bleiben, ehe wir den Absprung nach Polen schaffen. Das Wetter ist zeitweise sehr stürmisch und regnerisch. Wir vertreiben uns die Zeit in dem schönen Einkaufscenter Akropolis, im Skulpturenpark auf einem ehemaligen Friedhof und testen eine Menge leckerer Restaurants. Unter anderem das Stora Kantina, was zu unserem Lieblingsrestaurant wurde. Viel Spaß beim Schauen und wenn es euch gefällt, gerne einen Daumen hoch und abonniert unseren Kanal. Purtroppo tutti i video delle fasi di lavorazione sono andati perduti, rimane solo questo della parte finale: speriamo vi piaccia, a noi molto! Siamo molto emozionati perchè stiamo iniziando un nuovo lavoro di restauro. Frida è a buon punto quindi possiamo cominciare questa nuova avventura con "Birilla", una Perversion 37 degli anni 80 della Teknocantieri. Dovremo rimuovere tutto il teak, ripristinare la coperta in gelcoat e verniciare le parti antiscivolo con kiwigrip. Già dalla prima fase della rimozione del teak sono emersi alcuni interventi importanti di restauro da effettuare, come ad esempio gli oblò del bagno e della dinette che sono da rimuovere, pulire e risigillare perchè trafilano acqua. Dovremo poi occuparci del restauro di tutti i legni interni. Sarà molto interessante vedere le fasi di lavorazione e quali nuovi imprevisti ci aspettano. Come sempre il nostro supervisore e mentore Franco Ricci ci darà una mano! Seguiteci!!

Just like any good kiwi summer we have been tripping around making the most of the sunshine with family and friends. In this episode Naomi receives some exciting news, we journey south to the Rotorua lakes district before returning home then north to Nikau. We also tick some boxes preparing to go offshore later this season and begin our sail north for more summer adventures. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. Our family of 5 along with our cat and dog traveled halfway around the world from Italy back to our homeland of New Zealand from 2017 until 2019. Drone: DJI Mavic mini 2 Laax Winter 20/21

I’ve uploaded this a minute after Carolyn took it. It’s cloudy, with a bit of sun sneaking through. A bit of rain here snd there. Not a lot of wind, but we are making progress. 🙂

Seeing the Fountaine Pajot Belize 43 we have under contract made for such a fun day! Since we put in an offer for her before we even booked flights for Grenada, it was a super huge relief to actually lay eyes on her.....especially after some of the difficulties and mishaps we've run into the couple other times we've put in offers. The unexpected icing on the cake was to see endless upgrades and additions that were done...including a custom workshop, a washer/dryer, a water maker, a reverse osmosis system, 1kW of solar, and the list goes on. This boat is one of the lucky ones- there are some that are so beat up...this one has been looked after and loved. The previous owners took her all the way around the world with the ARC! GOALS. This was the first time we'd had the chance to see an owner's version- definitely the type of layout you'd want as just a couple. We didn't want to get too ahead of ourselves- we still have a long road ahead before a deal is done and a lot could still go wrong, but it was fun imagine what it would be like having this boat for a home.

Have you ever tried Ting? It's pretty delicious - it's like the Caribbean's version of Squirt. We didn't realize this when we made it- but upon further investigation we found that this is a riff on the "Ting Sling". Adding Sorrel gave it a fun twist, for sure! We've decided we want to try making our own sorrel, instead of relying on premixed concoctions that pack loads of sugar. That'll be coming soon...yay for more experiments!
