#140 Arrivée en République dominicaine Partie 3 ✍️La République Dominicaine est à vue ! En fond sonore, la résonnance de nos moteurs. La pétole établie depuis le milieu de la nuit a eu raison de nos voiles, depuis, notre Lion progresse en ronronnant. Résigné à l’inéluctable prévision que nous allons passer au minimum douze heures sans vent, mon capitaine a pris cette option pour nous éviter d’arriver de nuit. De fait, l’utilisation de nos propulseurs permet le constat de deux choses. La première c’est que nous avons un problème d’alternateur et la seconde, plus vertueuse, est que nous n’avons plus de soucis de démarrage grâce au check des connexions électriques. Entre 5 et 6 nœuds sur une mer aussi plate que délicate, nous nous apprêtons à passer au-dessus d’un haut-fond de 30 mètres. La profondeur idéale pour pêcher ! Mais ce qui est encore plus efficace, ce sont les DCP, ces Dispositifs de Concentration de Poissons créés par l’homme, dans le but justement de canaliser la flore et la faune en un point. Les poissons tournent autour d’un bout qui est lesté sur le fond, et il n’y a plus qu’à passer à côté, le festin est garanti ! La journée s’étire. Les contours de la côte Républicaine s’affinent. Avec le jeu des voiles, Blacky créé son vent, un nœud de plus au compteur, nous sommes assurés d’aborder avant le coucher de soleil. Hispaniola se dresse devant nous, la baie de Samana, immense, nous accueille, les baleines font leur ballet et devant, la voile ocre de cette pirogue ajoute au tableau, un je ne sais quoi d’aquarellique ! Black Lion est bien ancré. Le pont de Nowhere derrière lui, nous, un ptit rhum à la main pour arroser notre belle traversée, nous nous détendons sur le pont. We move on from the sailing across the Atlantic towing incident and finally settle into the Caribbean! We made it across 4200 nautical miles from Cartagena Spain to Grenada within 2 months and after finding the stranded sailor along our Atlantic passage, being tired was an understatement. We spent a week in Port Louis Marina in Grenada and then we were off to explore the Island’s we have been dreaming about since getting our first sailing boat in 2014. Ofcourse our Snapdragon 27ft sail boat was a little too small to cross the Atlantic Ocean so we spent years renovating and upgrading our boats and were finally confident to on our Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40. As you have seen in our previous videos, we successfully made it across to the Caribbean and it was time to start ticking off our Bucket List. One of the coolest and problematic areas on our boat is the windows. They are sleek and curved - aesthetically pleasing to the eye but a mission to repair or replace. Because of the geometry of the side windows, new pieces need to be moulded into shape before they can be fitted to Paikea. It is an expensive undertaking and one we just cannot afford at this point in time. However we need to do something. They leak and they squeak but fear not! Shayne has found the perfect glue to at least sort this part out once and for all. We may not be able to do anything about the crazing in the perspex window itself but we can at least glue them in properly. 4 jours de mer très pénibles, c'est ce qui nous attend. On part de La Goméra aux Canaries pour traverser vers Sal, une des iles du Cap Vert. On a déjà effectué cette traversée il y a 2 ans et on en a gardé notre meilleur souvenir de mer. Et bien, ce ne sera pas le cas cette fois -ci ! Ce sera même notre pire traversée jusqu'à ce jour. Avec des vents forts, une houle croisée et des ennuis de pilote.... Bref, on est content d'arriver !!!! We’ve run aground! But its not what you think! We thought we could dig a hole to pull the rudder out boy were we wrong! They don’t call St. Thomas Rock City for nothing and we found out the hard way. In this Episode we continue the rudder drama and find no hope in digging a hole to drop the rudder. So we call in reinforcements and get Wicked lifted. Then we take advantage of Island life in the USVI and reward our hard work with a beach day! ************************ After months of "couch sailing" on YouTube we decided it was time to stop dreaming and dream and start living it. Brit has wanted to sail and own boat for many years but it was always something that didn't seem it could possible for us. Until we stumbled across countless and I mean countless YouTube Channels like, La Vagabonde, Beau & Brandy, Sailing Uma, SV Delos, Parlay Revival, Tula's Endless Summer, Odd Life Crafting, Expedition Evans and the list goes on. We can only hope to inspire one person to chase their dreams as they have inspired us to. After what seemed like a long search for a sailboat we learned about hurricane damaged boats for auction down in the Caribbean. We came across a listing for a 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was currently being auctioned. We put in our bid and got out bid a few times before finally winning in the end. We had a short window to get from California to St. Thomas USVI to secure our purchase. Now the fun begins! It is time to refit this hurricane damaged sailboat make her our own. Thanks for watching! In this episode, we arrive at St.Michaels, the very famous town that fooled the British!! We explore the picturesque and welcoming town that boasts an abundance of character and intrigue, set in the Chesapeake it is well worth a visit or a holiday destination After mingling amongst the shops and strolling the town James and I visit a cafe where the smell of cinnamon and all things sweet resonate.. James opts for a blood mary packed with shells and anchor straws! Never before seen!! ;) We stroll through the lanes of the houses dating back to the 1700s.. we stop for lunch at the very famous CRAB CLAW restaurant and James nearly has a 'Pretty Woman Moment'.. We head back to Aequus and continue our journey to Annapolis where we have a berth booked. However, our organisation goes to pot when we spend much of the afternoon trying to hail the marina, but to no avail and get 'left out in the cold', or in this case, we anchor in the middle of the inlet overnight. The next day we manage to get into the marina and receive the B&G repair guys and get started on much of the fixing and cleaning on Aequus.
