In this video, I discuss the circuits I've built to get the ESP to read RPM, engine temperature and exhaust temperature as well as some off the shelf devices which are just 'plug and play'. The Volvo Penta MD2030 heat exchanger is M18x1.5 thread. I used a KUS temperature sensor from ASAP https://www.asap-supplies.com/products/kus-insulated-earth-water-temperature-sender-120c-eu-m18x1-5-ke00018 BME and 1Wire came from PiHut. A couple of back to back short Chat 18 videos. The first shows how even a simple 2:1 control rope can make a basic self steering system. Clips at each end, but I really need to fit some shockcord to keep it all in tension. I found on an earlier sail that my Chat 18 steers like this even at 9 knots. But note what happens when I stand on the foredeck - the boat slowly luffs and would actually tack (so akin to steering a windsurfer). Proving the importance of both hull and sail balance. The second clip shows how easy it is to heave to, and how on a catamaran the boat just bobs up and down, no rolling even in a cross sea (as you can see in one of my earlier videos). In more wind/waves I'd cleat the rudders, but in flat water just leaving them loose works well enough. More on the Chat 18 here https://www.sailingcatamarans.com/index.php/designs-2/2-catamarans-under-25ft/475-chat-18-daysailing-catamaran You can see my other 200+ videos here https://www.youtube.com/user/WoodsDesigns

We have had the Havaseas, our Nordhavn 55, for just over a year. We plan to explore Canada this winter/spring. We explored Powell River and changed the oil, plus the oil and fuel filters. (By we.... I mean Eric.) Our adventures, how we live and where we go. Oil changes might not be adventurous.... but necessary to living on a boat. Powell River. Nordhavn oil and filter change. We receive a second hand chart plotter and wind instruments from our friends at @SaltyEscape but we're not sure that we'll be able to make it work on our boat. Todd builds a stand to hold the chart plotter on our binnacle out of expanded foam PVC board. It's the same stuff we built our hard top out of. Magnus continues the task of fitting the in-hull transducer by cutting out an access hole in the settee. With the cutting tools out he also adds another access hole in the back of the salon so we can access the storage area more easily. We take time out to go on a mine and town tour of Weipa which is very interesting. The canning continues with savoury mince. Magnus makes a shelf for top pantry and he tastes a homemade ginger beer! In this episode, we leave Zapatilla Cays and sail to Escudo de Veraguas. This island is not visited by many as the anchorage is untenable in bad weather. With no wind, we are able to spend a blissful couple days here, diving, spearfishing and visiting with the indigenous tribe that lives here. But all good things must come to an end so we pulled anchor to start our journey toward the Panama Canal. Want to help support our video productions? We recently started a Patreon account. EP 205: The diving we have been waiting for.. After our whole debacle with our asymetric sail ripping to shreds, we arrived in Grande Anse D'Arlet thanks to our trust genoa and two engines 😂 We hit the town exploring, to see what this little place was made up off. We slowly but surely learnt it was a tourist area mainly but saw plenty dive shops which only meant one thing.. the diving here would be good 🤞 Ricky and Marty (our buddy boat O'Magog) went scouting for some spots for us ladies got all kitted up and wasted air on nothing worth it but boy oh boy was this worth it. I was so excited to finally be diving in a place that had an abundance off coral and fish, although we didn't see crazy sized fish right on this spot i knew that if we went deeper i'm pretty sure we would have saw some good sized tuna or maybe even grouper. We can't wait to explore the rest of this islands dive spots! Thanks for watching! Don't forget to hit that subscribe button and leave us a comment below. We had some great adventures in this episode of Sailing Wind Therapy. We continued our journey through the Ragged Islands at the southern end of The Bahamas on board our leopard 45 sailing catamaran. The sailing was great, and the snorkeling was beautiful. The bushwhacking across Flamingo Cay was interesting. Wish I'd had a machete that had a sharp edge on it. But, we made it to the top and back with only minor scratches and a few bug bites. I'd have to say the highlight of the trip was the thunderstorm we encountered at Water Cay on our way back to civilization. Of course, it was in the middle of the night. Always in the middle of the night, right? We saw winds greater than 45 knots, and the storm lasted about two hours. Thank goodness our Rocna 73 held like a champ. Love Rocna! Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.

SAILING Again! Plus a SURPRISE AT SEA on Our Way to the Bahamas | Harbors Unknown Ep. 59 Last time we left off we were troubleshooting an issue with our autopilot. Thanks to some viewers, Chris from Just Catamarans and Fabio’s persistence we adjusted some settings and it appeared to be working. So we decided to take a leap of faith, leave for the Bahamas and handle whatever repairs are needed along the way. Setting sail from Fort Lauderdale to Harbors Unknown was the culmination of years of dreaming, planning and hard work. For the past year and a half we’ve been sailing the coast, shaking down the boat and honing our skills for off-grid living and long term cruising. The past couple months we’ve been working to get everything functioning properly but we finally realized that time may never come. So we cast the lines and we’re setting off to sail around the world. Little did we know something we couldn’t have imagined was about to unfold. Watch now to see what happened. Be sure to check out our new Patreon community for behind the scenes footage and a more personal connection! https://www.patreon.com/harborsunknown If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our @Seawind Catamarans boat, Wanderlust, in September, 2020. We're sailing her to Harbors Unknown, to explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We're sharing our adventures as a sailing couple living on a boat and how it’s possible to live an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. We have set off on our voyage sailing around the world, exploring the beautiful waters of South Florida, the Florida Keys, Bahamas, and the US East Coast. Another informative video filmed mostly at the top of our modified AC rig on a blustery 20+KT day! We've worked a lot on sound editing and video quality so hopefully you will enjoy this next YB update. Have you come across a halyard lock before? Do you have one on your boat already? This little gadget we are installing is for our inner forestay. It's cool because we can add or remove the sail completely depending on requirements. The other bonus is that it does not take up valuable clutch real estate. We think it's also relevant to show that the installation process did not go to plan. Shayne had originally cut the slot for the lock before having received the piece and of course it did not fit. Lucky for us our man has a few tricks up his sleeve to avoid a potential disaster! There are few places on earth like Martha’s Vineyard and this one deserves a full review and rating. We could only stay nine days, but we wish we had the whole summer. It’s an enchanting island with profound African history and multi-culturalism, protected and sacred Indian grounds, Methodist religious influence, year “rounders”, and wealth beyond measure. The island has multiple personalities, five in particular found at the five port towns; one could almost think you are on five distinct islands when arriving. We started our visit in Menemsha Pond in the Southwest then went Northeast to Lake Tashmoo and finally East to Edgartown. We did not anchor in Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs, as we ran out of time, but we did visit them. There is so much to say about each place that it’s a bit overwhelming. From lighthouses and cliffs to gingerbread houses, to captain houses, you are always surprised and delighted. We hope our video gives you a good feel for the island and all there is to see and experience. We would be remiss not to thank Jeannie and Adrian for their incredible hospitality and kindness to us while we visited their island home. What a treat to reunite with a college friend after 30 years! We hope you enjoy the video! #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #marthasvineyard #menemshapond #edgartown #laketashmoo #vineyardhaven #oakbluffs NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Near Heddy's Land on Great Guana Cay, we anchored (poorly) near a rock just off shore. It turned into our first true experience of just how abundant coral life can be, even on a small coral head. We're hooked. A beautiful spotted eagle ray, hiding grouper and a bigass barracuda highlighted a bunch of smaller fish and amazing coral. This is what snorkeling is for! Seawind ventures away from Norfolk and into the Dismal Swamp. After hearing about how dismal the swamp can be with Duckweed threatening to foul engine cooling intakes, running over submerged logs and other debris in the shallow canal, we find ourselves in the middle of the most beautiful Autumn scene. We don't hit bottom once, the Duckweed stays out of our intake, and we proceed to cross the Albemarle Sound (sorry for the bad pronunciation in advance). We experience the dead-zone that is the Alligator River and head for the Pungo River where we end up in Belhaven, NC. We decide to move spots and explore a new island in the San Blas chain but when Bill goes to pick up the anchor the windless won’t power up. With no obvious reason for the malfunction and a buddy boat, s/v Delos whose already departed Bill decides to pull it up manually. We’re in over 40 foot of water and the wind is blowing so it’s not an easy job but with Grace at the helm and Bill on the bow pulling we get it on board as a team. We then enjoy a blissful sail with a beautiful mountain backdrop, a good breeze and calm seas. Once anchored in our new spot Bill gets to work on troubleshooting the broken windless. He discovers loose wires on the motor after creating a diagram to help isolate a potential connection issue. First, he sees the connections at the battery and control box are fine and also that there is voltage at the windless remote. He locates the loose wires on the motor finally, fixes it, and then re-fixes the remote which he broke into initially- His handy hillbilly fix was NOT the problem! Afterwards we enjoy a beach bonfire with friends and cook dinner on the fire. The island is known for the deep water almost touching the shoreline - It’s an absolutely stunning place. The next day we begin making focaccia bread, then head into the beach for a swim and a search for cervasa's (beer)! The incredible thing about San Blas is that it’s remote, but not too remote - That means the ability to buy a beer from the locals while enjoying an untouched paradise. It’s the best of both worlds! 0:00 Intro 1:45 Broken Windless?! 4:20 Recap 4:36 Sailing between Islands in the San Blas 8:51 Arrival to a new Cay 9:49 Troubleshooting the Windless 11:40 Beach BBQ 14:57 Bread Makin’ 16:04 Buying a Beer from the Guna -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Enjoying our channel?
