Article complet dans Multicoques Mag n°214 : https://www.multihulls-world.com/articles-catamaran-trimaran/fountaine-pajot-owners-rendezvous-2022-just-for-fun-in-croatia Cette dixième édition a remporté un franc succès puisque 22 catamarans étaient présents à Trogir du 21 au 24mai. Du Lucia 40 jusqu’au Saba 50, les modèles représentés étaient nombreux avec des Astrea 42, Elba 45 et une belle flotte de Saona 47. Le multicoque le plus ancien était sans doute le Salina 48 appartenant à Yves Pajot – cofondateur du chantier. Une dizaine des catamarans présents ont navigué depuis leur port d’attache – parfois lointain – pour être de la fête. Les autres étaient des Fountaine Pajot basés en Croatie et loués par des propriétaires, des concessionnaires de la marque ou encore le staff du chantier (représenté par deux bateaux). Quant aux 108 équipiers justement, ils représentaient des nationalités très diverses – Afrique du Sud, Allemagne, Australie, Espagne, Etats-Unis, France, Italie, Mexique… L’intérêt de ces rencontres organisées par le chantier est précisément de partager les expériences – entre propriétaires, bien sûr, mais également avec le personnel de Fountaine Pajot. Le premier jour de navigation a mené les catamarans au fameux mouillage de Blue Lagoon. Premières baignades (mer à 21°C, encore un peu fraîche) et virées en paddle dans un une eau turquoise incroyable pour enchaîner sur une première régate. Tous les Fountaine Pajot se sont amarrés comme à la parade sur le quai de la marina de Maslinica – dont l’hôtel-restaurant Marchini Marchi Heritage avait été privatisé pour l’occasion. Le lendemain, cap sur une crique bien abritée de l’île de Šolta pour mouiller tous les catamarans à couple et en cercle – pas évident à mettre en œuvre mais les dinghies étaient là pour passer les aussières. L’après-midi, en Croatie, le vent thermique se lève d’ordinaire lors de la belle saison ; c’est donc le moment de hisser les voiles et de régater à nouveau pour ensuite rejoindre Milna, sur l’île de Brač. La soirée se poursuit dans les terres – un bus et deux rotations sont nécessaires… Pour le dernier jour, le parcours de ralliement vers Split est démarré assez tôt car le vent de sud-est monte progressivement à 20/25 nœuds. This is the first independent sea trial of our Quick Gyro by THE CAPTAIN 🛥 Boston Whaler 420 Outrage 📍 Sydney Harbour, Australia The Quick Gyro Stabiliser gets a workout when it is fitted on the Boston Whaler 420 Outrage. Boston Whaler 420 Outrage was built in Florida and is a bit of an all-rounder; a family friendly boat and entertainer, more than 13 metres in length with a generous beam of nearly 4 metres. Quick Gyro Stabilisers are built in Ravenna, Italy. Ravenna is the home of Italian precision engineering, where Ducati, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati were born. We have 13 models in the range, that's the biggest range of gyroscopic stabilizers in the world; and we have more models than any other brand. The Quick Gyros start at 2 000 newton metres of torque and go right up to 75 000 newton metres of torque. Simply put, a gyroscopic stabilizer means that you can go boating any day you like and confidently take your family and friends with you because you can always count on the fact that the boat is going to be comfortable. fitting a Quick Gyro also means you're going to significantly reduce the risk of seasickness from anybody that's joining you. It really makes boating a no-brainer - if the boys want to go out for the day and be out there overnight to enjoy the fishing as long as possible, the gyroscopic stabilizer provides total total control of the vessel, and means you could be fishing in a 3 metre swell without a problem in the world if you get the right size gyro for the boat. The Quick Gyro used on this vessel is the X16. It generates about 16 000 newton metres of anti-roll torque but the footprint is only 590 mm square! It's a tiny little box compared to our competitor models. The quick gyro is 30% smaller across the different anti-roll torque sizes and unlike other brands out there, you're not cutting holes in the bottom of your boat to get water cooling access, you don't have pumps, you don't have anodes, and you don't have a series of very expensive servicing requirements on a yearly basis. The machine is very compact, it's very simple to install, it's very simple to maintain, it gives you full control, it gives you standby mode at the touch of a button. Norwegian Bavaria dealer Claes Eliasson had a question. How much faster would a Bavaria C38 go if you paired down the kit on board and replaced the standard wardrobe with some high-performance sails? To find out, he enlisted the help of designer Maurizio Cossutti and North Sails Norway.

Compared to the ropes and wires of the past, stretch as we knew it is gone…. modern materials such as Dyneema have all but ruled it out. And yet for some, even the tiniest amount of stretch can cause things to go pear shaped.

For many of us, hoisting a sail and marking the halyard position with a black marker pen will be as close as we get to calibrating the luff tension. But a new system developed jointly between Cyclops Marine and North Sails promises to take the guesswork out of the process.

If the versatility of being able to sail shorthanded or fully crewed is your thing, there’s plenty out there to choose from. Earlier this year we saw plans for the Aeolus P30. Now, she’s afloat and has undergone extensive trials. The results and feedback have been good which has led to the announcement of a new bigger sister, the Aeolus P45.

Delivering performance in both shorthanded and fully crewed configurations was the design brief for Ben Rogerson’s 41 footer. The initial inspiration was the vibrant and competitive shorthanded scene among the Class 40s. But, when it comes to racing this style of boat under IRC with a full crew of six, Rogerson and his team believe that there is a gap in the market.

Ditching the plan for offshore racing in the next Olympic Games came as a big blow. But, the L30 is one of several projects that ploughed ahead regardless. The Olympic focus for the design meant that it always had doublehanded racing in mind, but it can also be crewed with 4 or 5.

Sailing is tough, and often uncomfortable. Anything that makes life easier or more comfortable onboard means you’ll sail more, and enjoy it more. We’ve had a spinnaker/whisker pole onboard since a fellow sailor donated one to us in Mobile, Alabama. We’ve tried to rig it once or twice, but never had all the required gear to make it work. Now with the necessary lines and hardware rigged up, and a 24-hour downwind run ahead, the whisker pole is put to the test. It was glorious! After a gentle downwinder from Cayo Costa, Lauren and Renata jump ship for the night. Kirk’s father joins him for a double-handed downwind run from Fort Myers to Marathon, surfing up to 7.5 knots in breaking waves, catching fish, snagging crab pots, and sharing secrets they’d never want anyone else to know.
