Segeltörn 2022 Manch einem ist gar nicht bekannt, dass die südlichste Bucht der Ostsee praktisch vor der Haustür liegt. Es ist die kleine, aber feine Wismarer Bucht – von Einheimischen kurz Wismarbucht genannt. Wir begleiten die FeO über Laboe, die Hohwachter Bucht und Heiligenhafen nach Wismar, schauen uns die Spuren an, die die Hansezeit hinterlassen hat und machen auf dem Rückweg auch einen Umweg über die Lübecker Bucht. In der Hohwachter Bucht ist heute kein Schießbetrieb, mit Kurs Ost dicht am Fehmarnsundweg steuern wir Heiligenhafen an. Selbst Bordhund Fritzi ist begeistert über die flotte Rauschefahrt. Im Amwindkurs pendelt die Logge um 6 Knoten und bald zeigt sich die rot-weiße Tonne Offentief. Sie markiert die westliche Ansteuerung in die Wismarbucht. Im Fahrwasser hängt der Skipper seinen Gedanken nach. Hier ist der Rest meiner Familie zuhause, hier hatte ich das Licht der Welt erblickt und hier liegen auch die ursprünglichen Wurzeln meiner Segelleidenschaft. An Backbord gleitet die kleine Insel Walfisch vorüber. Damals segelte meine Mutter mit einer Jolle hinüber und einmal geriet sie auch in schwieriges Wetter. Sie war damals schwanger und der kleine Bub in ihrem Bauch war der heutige Skipper. Hinter der riesigen Werfthalle müssen wir die FeO klarmachen zum Anlegen. Fritzi kann es kaum noch aushalten, sie braucht jetzt Landgang. Es beginnt ein spannender Spaziergang durch die alte Hansestadt…

A brief outline of Vicar's bowsprit refurbishment. Morning Vicar is a venerable old MK1 Cornish Shrimper 19. new to me but showing some wear from her adventurous life, she needs some TLC (like me). I have an extensive list of jobs and refurbishment to undertake over the next few years.

** NOW SOLD ** Blew Away is a 2005 Ben Lexcen designed Eureka 10.4 Sports. After falling in love with the original Eureka 31, her previous owner acquired the moulds and set about redesigning the aft section of the boat to slightly extend the water line and the cockpit and in doing so created and built a highly successful club racer / cruiser. There is a complete sail wardrobe for both racing and cruising, and she sports a carbon bowsprit for her asymmetrical spinnakers. The race main was renewed in 2015 and No 1 genoa in 2016. Standing rigging is still current having been replaced in 2015. In 2020, she had a headsail furler installed including new forestay and an adjustable backstay. Adjustable lazy jacks and a boom bag were also fitted in 2020. Her Raymarine instruments were new in 2019.

Here are 8 steps you can follow to wash and flush a personal watercraft ( #pwc ), such as a #jetski , a #waverunner or #seadoo : 1. Begin by thoroughly rinsing off any dirt or debris from the exterior of the PWC. Use a hose with a high-pressure nozzle to blast away any grime. 2. Next, fill a bucket with warm water and a mild soap, such as dish soap. Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently scrub the exterior of the PWC, paying particular attention to areas around the engine and any crevices where dirt or grime might accumulate. 3. Once you have finished scrubbing the exterior, rinse the PWC again with the hose to remove any soap residue. 4. Now it's time to move on to the interior of the PWC. Begin by removing any debris or trash that may have accumulated in the storage compartments or on the seats. 5. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe down the interior surfaces, including the dashboard and any upholstery. 6. To flush the engine, start by attaching a flushing device to the water intake on the bottom of the PWC. This will allow you to run fresh water through the engine to remove any saltwater or debris that may have accumulated. 7. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for operating the flushing device, and run the engine for a few minutes to allow the water to flow through it. Make sure you turn the engine ON before turning the water on THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Then make sure you turn the water OFF, then Rev the engine for 15 secs upto 700RPM with no water attached and then turn the engine off. 8. Once you have finished flushing the engine, remove the flushing device and rinse off the exterior of the PWC one more time to ensure that it is completely clean & wipe down with a shammy cloth. It's important to regularly wash and flush your PWC to keep it in good working order and extend its lifespan. By following these steps, you can keep your PWC looking and performing its best. This week’s guest yacht was the first offering from the performance yard on the banks of the Tiber outside Rome. The C-Cat 37! For this weeks wine pairing, we head further north into Tuscany and the wineries of Monte Antico. Our wine pairing this week id Monte Antico, Supremus Toscana 2016 75% Sangiovese 15% Merlot 10% Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Antico, which means “ancient mountain,” is Neil and Maria Empson’s wholehearted tribute to Tuscany. Their forty years of passion and experience led them to create their own label along with their good friend Franco Bernabei, a master in Italian winemaking. Together, they have styled the quintessential Tuscan grape Sangiovese, highlighting all it has to offer and complementing it with just enough Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to bring it all together. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks at 77 °F (25 °C), followed by maceration on the skins for 15-20 days and malolactic fermentation for 7 days. Once the wine is blended, it aged 14 months in barrique – principally Allier oak. 70% of the barrique are new. Supremus ages 6 months in bottle before release. Barriques are the barrels traditionally used in Bordeaux, holding 225 litres. The wood for Bordeaux comes from Allier forests in the Auvergne. (The required characteristic of Allier oak was of course that it would make good ships to kill the British, not it's smell). Barriques are very much smaller than the barrels used in producing Barolo and Barbaresco; generally twenty times smaller. And while these bigger barrels are treated, and introduced carefully to fine wine maturing to ensure that no element of the wood gets into the wine, the barrique is often used new with the deliberate intention of adding wood substances to the wine. The smaller barrel presents a greater surface to a given quantity of wine so all effects take place more quickly. In this episode we continue our way down the coast of Costa Rica with Minnie and Pa on board. We stop in at Drake Bay for only a night - a very remote town in the jungle accessed only by boat, plane or 4 wheel drive. The next morning we have a wonderful sail all the way to Pavones, usually a world class lefthand surf break but the wind we used to sail is washing out any possible surf. Instead we stop so Bella and Finn can have a quick kite surf before anchoring in Jacobs Bay for the night. Waking up in Jacobs Bay we hear all the jungle sounds chorus together as the sun rises. What a magical moment. We spend the morning exploring the bay on the dinghy and in at shore, enjoying coconuts, spotting wildlife and generally just being in awe of the dense jungle surrounding us. Moving a short way into Golfito we go through the checking out process which is very easy compared to Mexico especially with the help of Gabriella at Banana Bay Marina and then we're off to Panama. 3 days and 2 nights at sea dodging longlines with strobe lights, battling currents through Canal de Afuera and we round Punta Mala beautifully before getting hit with wind against tide as we push on in to the Gulf of Panama. The last frontier, the depth of the ocean, the vast waters of the pacific, the far islands of the Galapagos, Wolf and Darwin, that is where we’re headed. We are sailing on the Humboldt diving vessel with an eclectic group of underwater explorers, instructors, commercial divers, repeat offenders in these remote waters. Some of them have been here before, they travelled from different parts of the world all looking for the same thing, the approaching shadow of the whale sharks, the sun blocking shiver of hammerheads, the icy eyes of Galapagos sharks. We are all seeking the ancestral connection with a world that once was. But are we too late? There is a fleet of nearly 300 Chinese fishing vessels surrounding the natural park and its protected waters, a swarm of highly sophisticated fish extraction machines constantly following the migratory patterns of giant squids, the primary source of food for the hammerheads, but also harvesting other species which have been overfished and completely depleted in Chinese national waters. The 20-year-old RORC Member was voted Sailor of the Year at the 2022 British Yachting Awards. The father and daughter duo, Jim and Ellie Driver, raced Sun Fast 3300 Chilli Pepper in IRC Two-Handed throughout the 2022 RORC Season’s Points Championship. Notably Chilli Pepper won the Morgan Cup overall under IRC, and in August, Ellie became the youngest ever skipper to finish the gruelling Sevenstar Round Britain & Ireland Race. Ho mostrato i mille volti di Djerba, le case che i trogloditi hanno costruito centinaia di anni fa sotto terra, la splendida medina e il palmeto di Tozeur, l'oasi di montagna e le cascate di Chebika, i miraggi dello Chott el Jerid, il grande lago salato. Vérification du gréement et renforcement du guindeau. Sur cette escale à Mindelo, nous avons 3 priorités : modifier l'enrouleur de génois, vérifier la gouverne et renforcer la fixation du guindeau. Le contrôle du gréement arrive en quatrième position. J'utilise un cahier sur lequel je note, au fil de la nav, toutes le interventions (amélioration, réparation, entretien ou modification) à effectuer sur Ikigaï.
