Olympia is no longer for sale by JMYS. Olympia is a 2014 Kadey Krogen 55 Expedition yacht. She is offered for sale by her original owner who has meticulously maintained her. Olympia’s spacious interior, storage and ease of boarding/disembarking make her an excellent live aboard, full-time cruising vessel. In addition to the port and starboard boarding doors at cockpit sole level, Olympia has two port and starboard access points on the bow and two more port and starboard access points on the Portuguese bridge. The walk-in, full height engine room has three accesses: primarily through a full size door in the guest head, through two hatches in the saloon sole and down a short flight of steps through the lazarette. Her owner has cruised her extensively from the Bahamas (including Eleuthera and the Exumas) to Maine. Olympia is an excellent vessel for the active owner operator couple. We're spending the day with the service gurus at Norfolk Marine talking about some maintenance issues, and one we haven't touched on yet is how to change the thermostat on an outboard engine. This is a stuck thermostat. Chris, how do I even know if my thermostat is stuck in the first place? Chris Breeden, Service Manager/Yamaha Master Tech: Well, one of the easiest signs is you get a high idle and oil dilution. The oil dilution is going to be fuel finding its way past the rings and getting into the oil. Lenny: Oh, when your engine is "making oil". Chris: That's it. Lenny: Well, can you show us how to change the thermostat? Chris: Sure can. First thing, just pop the cowling off, set it aside, and on this model there's a flywheel cover, it pops right off, and on the 150's (Yamaha F-150 four-stroke outboard) it's located right here on the side. Take your ratchet with a 10mm, pop these guys loose, and with all three bolts out we can get the cover out of the way. Then it comes right out. Lenny: That's what a new thermostat looks like, and there's an old one. Chris: That's what they're supposed to look like when they're cold, completely closed. Lenny: On every model engine the thermostat will be located in a different place, right? How do I know where to find it? Chris: The easiest way is to refer back to the service manual, and if you don't have the service manual you can go on the internet and Google, and find it there. Lenny: So just about all of these service manuals, you can find on the internet? Chris: I haven't found one yet that you couldn't.

A worrying thunder-shake in the new stem means I have to make and install a large graving piece. After making some wedges and cutting notches in the scarph joints, we assemble the Stem, Knee, Forefoot and Mast Step in the bow of Tally Ho… lifting the gigantic stem overhead with the forklift is quite an amazing sight! Learning to sail is an exciting journey. However, grasping the basics without expert instruction can lead to frustration. Here's a short step-by-step guide to understanding the wind, the sails, and the points of sail. This clear instructional video is the best explanation of the basics of sailing. There are three main points of sail: upwind (close-hauled), reaching (beam reach), and downwind (running). Understanding these points is crucial for controlling your boat effectively. Close-hauled is when you sail as close to the direction of the wind as possible. Reaching involves sailing across the wind. Running is sailing downwind with the wind at your back. Before setting sail, grasp the concept of wind direction and its impact on your boat. You'll need to pay attention to the wind's behavior, as it will dictate your course. Start by observing flags, ripples on the water, and the direction of smoke if present. This awareness will guide your decisions while sailing. Onboard our yacht we also have wind instruments and a wind arrow at the top of the mast to help us. Proper sail trim is vital for maximizing your boat's performance. Adjust the angle of your sails according to the wind direction to achieve the desired speed and direction. Experiment with different sail positions to find the most efficient setup for the current conditions. The free sailboat we obtained was in Titusville, FL and we needed to move it as close to home as possible to begin working on it. We had some time off because of Thanksgiving break so we decided to get the boat as ready as possible and set off on the 4-5 day trip through the Intracoastal Waterway, Okeechobee Waterway, and Gulf of Mexico. The diesel engine decided to die half-way through the trip, causing us have to leave the boat in Ft. Myers for a week while it was repaired. With everything upside down, we will then be able to work on the deadwood and drilling before we bolt them together. It was everything we were looking for: a large lot with plenty of buildable land in a beautiful area. But just a few days after submitting our offer, we were devastated to find out it was rejected. The owners decided to accept another offer that came in the same day as ours. So, we went back to the drawing board and in our eagerness to get started, we ended up purchasing this half-acre lot. It’s in a great location with a stunning view—but it’s far from perfect. The lot is much smaller than we’d hoped for, the driveway and front yard are incredibly steep, and after consulting with a structural engineer and an excavator, we realized that the particulars of our build site would make it quite expensive to build our dream home here. But for the past couple months I’ve kept a close eye on the land market in this area. And recently, several promising properties have popped up on our radar. So this week, we’re going to check out those properties—and apply everything we’ve learned so far about site prep and excavation to see if we should just commit to building on our land, or if one of these properties might be a better option for our dream mountain homestead.
