Dazu gehört: VHF einschalten, Lautstärke/Squelch, Kanal 16 kontrollieren, Distress-Button kennen, Working Channel der Küstenwache nutzen und – ganz wichtig – die Scheu ablegen: In der Not gibt es kein Gebot. Ein kurzer Radiocheck zu Törnstart (am Working Channel) stärkt Vertrauen in System und Crew. Telefonnummern von Rettungsleitstellen (z. B. Bremen Rescue) gehören ins Handy. Dann Gas & Feuer: Gasalarm demonstrieren, Verhalten bei Gasgeruch (Zudrehen an der Flasche, keine elektrischen Schalter, Lüften/Querlüften) und konsequentes Abschalten nach dem Kochen (Leitung ausbrennen lassen). Prävention am Herd (keine brennbaren Materialien in Herdnähe). Bei Entzündung: Löschdecke first, dann Feuerlöscher – inkl. kurzer Demo (Manometer, Splint, Ziel aufs Brandgut, Pulver vor Gebrauch schütteln). Motorraum: Zugang/Öffnung zum Einbringen des Löschmittels zeigen bzw. automatische Löschanlage erklären. Wasser & Seeventile: Regel zur Bedienung der Seeventile festlegen (Boot/Position beachten), regelmäßiges Bewegen gegen „Festkorrodieren“ und Holzstopfen am jeweiligen Ventil bereithalten. Rettungswesten am Tisch öffnen/erklären (Fenster grün, manuelle Auslösung, Pfeife/BLB/Inflationsventil), nummerieren und zuweisen; Tragepflicht abhängig von Revier, Wetter und Nachtfahrten klar kommunizieren. We depart Olbia after an immense laundry bill. With no money left for food, Nicole is forced to exercise her culinary muscle. She doesn't disappoint and feeds me well as we sail our way to Stromboli. The passage starts with strong beam winds as we guide Breezy through the rocky eastern coast of Sardinia. I misjudge the course of another vessel along the way and we pass close enough to exchange pleasantries. Once out into the Tyrrhenian sea and are met by a steep following sea that rolls the new HR44 hull side to side as the winds are directly behind us. Nicole keeps the sanity on board with calm and cooking. Providing well needed nourishment on board is essential to maintain stamina and happiness during these longer passages. We are gifted a fair wind on our first night and the following day enjoy a visit from a friendly pod of dolphins. We arrive at Stromboli at dawn from the north the next morning, the best time of arrival to witness the eruptions. Our good timing rewards us with a spectacular view of the Stromboli volcano that lives up to its nickname: "The lighthouse of the Mediterranean." The sound of flocking geese heading south begin to fill the twilight air, the white glaze of morning dew frosting the grass, the brisk sunset with a single dog barking off in the distance, and the clear star lit skies highlight the moonless cold nights. In the past these were normal events marking that Autumn is now in control. But we have other plans. We need to be heading south. In this video Jack and Ryan put a large boat onto a trailer. The boat has been sat on blocking for some time and has recently been sold to a customer in Portsmouth. The sale included delivery and so Jack uses one of his big trailers to move the the big boat to the marina. But first it has to be put on the trailer without the use of a hoist or crane. In this video I carry out a full service on my Yanmar 3JH2E boat engine aboard my sailboat, a Hunter Legend 376 What started as a simple maintenance job quickly turned into one of those typical boat days… where nothing goes exactly as planned. During this service I change the engine oil, oil filter, diesel fuel filters, and bleed the diesel system before starting the engine again. If you own a Yanmar marine diesel engine, this is a real-life look at basic maintenance you’ll eventually need to do on your boat. Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. This video shows the upgrading of my moth boom. I remove the internal Cunningham system, removing old mainsheet and boom vang rigging. Bunch of carbon laminate work and putting it all back together in time to go sailing. Enjoy!
