When sailing along the coast of Corsica, it is impossible to miss the Genoese towers! They are old defensive fortresses from past centuries, today only 67 towers remain. They date from the time when Corsica was part of the Republic of Genoa. The towers had to protect Corsica against pirates who came to rob properties and capture residents. The towers thus made it possible to follow the horizon, prevent attacks, but also to defend themselves. In the event of an attack, the guards had the task of immediately warning the other towers with fire, placed at the top of the tower. The warning then passed in turn, each in turn lighting a fire, to warn the next. Thanks to this technique, they built an unstoppable defense over hundreds of kilometers of coastline!

Spent 3 weeks in Thailand for the 2024 New Year holiday. One week in Bangkok and the rest in Koh Tao diving with various operators. Thailand is one of the best countries we've visited. The diving is outstanding, even in the off-season for the gulf. Can't imagine diving in April (peak season) where the water clarity is highest. As you will see, we encountered crazy currents and almost pitch-black turbidity at Sail Rock, a 2hr boat ride from the island. This was a bit of a gamble, as this site, known for its currents and pelagic sightings (ie Whale sharks), is also known as the best dive site in the gulf when visibility is higher in the spring. This is the first trip shooting with the Sony a6700 with a 16mm prime lens. Underwater footage mostly from the A6700. Set up for the camera is an Ikelite DLM housing with 6" dome port and a single Kraken 7000lm light on a flex arm. Some shots were with the GoPro 11 black. If you're considering upgrading your underwater video from a GoPro, I 100% recommend moving to a new mirrorless. The colors, clarity, and low-light performance are miles better than the GoPro.

Pailad in Chiloe is such a lovely place, that the captain couldn't resist not revisiting it. We had some very good and calm days in 2019 when we stayed here for a week. It is still beautiful as always, with black neck swans and other wild birds and ducks along the water bank. Every morning, the landscape is covered partially here and there by the mist and it creates an unforgettable view. A strong north wind was forecasted for the area, including the whole Chiloe island and its surroundings. All ports and operations were closed. We were too optimistic for the anchorage and didn't move. Anyway, we weren't sure if there was another one better. The current took us by surprise 😱 and it created a bit of a complicated situation in the strong wind. We raised the mizzen to keep the boat facing the wind. After the blow, Ithaca is on the way again. The next anchorage is Pindo. #sailaroundtheworld #sailboatlife #ithacacruising
