Cameo Island is a small private island in the bay of Laganas. In the drone video you see the entrance to Cameo Island which is already special: the wooden walkway that hangs above clear blue water. The gracefully fluttering white cloths that can be seen above the beach create a dreamy atmosphere, especially when they stand out against the blue sky. The island is therefore a popular location for weddings. We flew the drone over this small cove so you can clearly see the color of the water and the beautiful surroundings with the cliffs!

One of our NSSC Sailability members, Jazz Turner, featured on Adam Dowling's radio show on BBC Radio Sussex at the end of her epic Project FEAR ("face everything and rise") journey. Jazz is terminally ill with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and is a full-time wheelchair user. After 28 days sailing around the UK and Ireland single-handed, non-stop and unassisted, Jazz arrived back at Brighton Marina around 13:30 on Monday 30th June 2025. Jazz is raising money for the Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club (NSSC) Sailability fund. The entrance is marked by a red nun buoy. The red nun should not be used for accessing the channel as it is not directly on the channel but will be well to port as you enter. Navionics has the channel correctly positioned and once lined up is straight and long. It feels very narrow and the current can be strong depending on the tides.

Ep 52 – Misc Projects: Ice Maker Install & Netting / Sailing Free Spirit We finally were able to get the Ice Maker installed. This is a Rartian unit that makes 7 lbs of ice at a time so a good amount for us to enjoy our cocktails! Its come in quite handy and it’s no longer considered a luxury item for us but a necessity! We use a lot of ice for drinks, the pups enjoy eating it and most importantly our cocktails! Its come in handy as other dock mates have had their unit break or stop working and we are more than happy to assist them with their need for ice! We also install the netting around the boat (ok only half of it was accomplished today). This was more of a safety concern as we have 3 dogs who love to jump off the boat and we were afraid that they would jump or fall into the water. We also did a quick fix to one of the sails that we had to undo and retie again. Overall, a great weekend for boat projects!! Simple living, rich tradition — join us in Papua New Guinea as we cook over the fire in a handmade clay pot and experience the rhythm of island life. The morning begins with a canoe pulling alongside our boat — locals bring us one of our favourites: fresh baked cassava pudding, still warm from the fire. Not long after, they return with live mud crabs they’ve just caught by hand along the mangroves — strong, fast, and very much alive as they make a chaotic escape across the cockpit. Out here, life moves with the tides. People grow up on the sea, learning to sail, fish, and navigate from a young age — skills passed down through generations. We often talk about how it feels being here; how the community looks out for us with such care that it reminds us of being “cubs” — protected, guided, and watched over. Later, we go ashore to a small fishing outpost. Along the coast, local fishermen have built simple structures — a hut for sleeping, others for drying fish over the fire, or taking shelter when the weather turns. These places tell stories of everyday island life — resourceful, communal, and deeply connected to the ocean. We light a fire and cook in a traditional clay pot, a vessel shaped entirely by hand from local clay, then fired and hardened over coals. These pots are more than cooking tools — they hold deep cultural significance and are used during weddings, funerals, and feasts of importance. Each one represents care, continuity, and the sharing of life’s most meaningful moments. As evening falls, we return to our floating home to tackle a small but steady task — repairing wood rot on the boat, keeping her ready for the next crossing. 2006 Knysna 440 “Caterpillar” now Exclusively Listed for Sale with Yoti, in Newport, Queensland, Australia. Caterpillar is a 2006 Knysna 440 — a boutique, South African-built bluewater catamaran, thoughtfully upgraded and exceptionally well set up for extended, independent cruising.
