Isle of Dogs Sea Cadet Unit Compte in Cadet National Sailing and Windsurfing Competition. Four Cadets from the Isle of Dogs Sea Cadet Unit were selected to join the London Team Sailing to compete in Dinghies and Windsurfers against all the other areas in a National Competition. After five hours travelling we arrived at a local military base for our accommodation. The next day after a filling breakfast we went to the sailing centre to rig up and enter in four races, we had two Cadets Sailing together on a dinghy and a Cadets sailing a single handed dinghy with a fourth Cadet competing in Windsurfing. The next day there were two races to finish the series, we won one class and a narrow second in the other with the two Cadets sailing together improving all competition with a fourth place in their last race. Our Cadets represented London and were amazing, thank you to all who volunteered to help at the envent and to get us there especially Cory Environmental for their continued support for the Unit. This week aboard Chasing Serenity we hit a huge milestone—1,000 miles traveled on our 50-foot Royal Cape catamaran as we sail from Charleston, SC to St. Augustine, FL. Along the way we’re joined by dolphins day and night. We also get our damaged sail prepped to bring to the sail loft for repair, and I fix the alignment on one of our batten cars and a batten that’s been giving us trouble. For homeschool science, the kids help catch a few jellyfish to study onboard. We spent 2 weeks in the Cocos in 1999 and were lucky to produce a film for the Marine Park authorities. The objective was to get a record of the underwater world to be able to use it later to compare with other years. The park managers were great people and we really enjoyed our visit there.
