"Connecting Lines" reveals 20 years of navigational research that demonstrates the connection and maritime culture of Peru and the South American coast. South American sailors are possibly the first in all of America. After having been part of the first Peruvian crew to sail around the world and having lived in Hawaii for several years, this fascinating documentary explores, together with a team of professionals, the evidence that connects Peru with Polynesia due to the connection of both maritime civilizations. Through the sea and the fragile and unknown legacy of traditional Peruvian sailing navigation, the traditional Peruvian sailing fisherman who is more than 1,500 years old is recently explored in detail. The Grau Tropical Pacific Natural Reserve area is the scene of the Peruvian raft traditional sailors who still remain in northern Peru and continue to disappear. On the verge of extinction as a practice almost forgotten by the current world of raft navigation, at the end of the short film, there is a wonderful contrast with "modern inherited wayfinding" of Peruvian sailing, and exploring the same transmision of "the sailing connection". The whole idea of traditional sailors and modern ones is to deeply learn to manage the purpose for conservation not allowing sailing´s extinction as a practice.  "Connecting lines" promoting history as the conservation of the legacy of the Peruvian ocean is what is transmitted in this Peruvian ocean sailing documentary. Based on the concepto: "We cannot love what we do not know". If you're travellers like us, especially sailors, we highly recommend you too doing regular training sessions! Our training was done across 2 days and he taught us so many things. From giving CPR, using a Tourniquet to various ways of treating wounds and correct ways of doing injection. It gave us more confidence to be out at sea when nobody around to help us. Hopefully we won't get it use any, but in case we do.. it's good to know that we're prepared! Previously we left Alimos Marina in Athens to begin our journey towards Albania via the Ionion, the weather was poor to cross the foot of the Peloponnese so we chose to anchor in Porto Cheli our "safe heaven" and installed our new Schenker Zen 30 watermaker. After a great nights sleep we lift the anchor and set sail for Nafplio, hoping to stern-tie to the cliff face to the south of the town and have a few days visiting the local attractions, after a lovely smooth sail, making water and seeing dolphins we anchored by the cliff as planned, unfortunately just as we finished, we notice something "not so nice" in the water. After the low wind, peaceful sail and a little pitter patter of rain, an unexpected swell rolls in to the bay and we have the worst night of our sailing life so far, being rocked from side to side all night, with the smell of sewerage thrusting up into our nostrils. We would have left the anchorage if we were not stern-tied to the cliff, as it got dark and the swell came in we knew we were stuck there until the sunrise. Once we had light, Chris was on the paddle board and releasing the lines so that we could escape this hell and return to Porto Cheli for a rest. Are these dolphins in Sandefjord, who like to play next to the boat? Today the sailboat Maja was visited by two little ones who played by the side of the ship for four hours. It was a fantastic nature experience. At first I thought they were porpoises, but after looking at the pictures, they have the long characteristic beak that dolphins have. The dolphins came up to the boat just north of Håholmen in the Sandefjord fjord. Then they came out to Rauer, where I stopped the engine and had lunch. There we lay and drifted for an hour, and drifted from Rauer to the Southeast. They played by the boat the whole time. Then they came all the way into the Sandefjord fjord again. When I pulled off outside Seilerholmen to dock, they said goodbye with a real belly flop, and went off in a different direction. Thanks for the trip! S/Y Maja is a 1982 Nauticat 38. She has her home port at Fjellvik in Sandefjord.

We worked in that Club Med as Diving GO and Photo-Lab (underwater photographer). When I got enough uw photos of my own, I redid the former slide-show. This slide-show was used as weekly entertainment for our GM's. The 80's were great years for diving vacations with Club Med. The international team of great GO's made the experience memorable to all! Around-the-world with Harken's Tech Team - Part 4 Harken Tech Team: Auckland Mark Gardner Max Ronchetti Simon Botes Craig Blazer Callum Cecil Antonio Conscu THE RACE It was a long leg from Sanya to Auckland of around 5,260 nm, but after that distance there was only eight minutes separating the first three boats; proving that the one-design really does work! We have also had four legs and four different leg winners so far. Mapfre took line honours in Auckland, completing the leg in twenty days two hours and thirty one minutes with ADOR four minutes behind them and DFRT four minutes behind ADOR! That's four legs, four winners. Some 5,264 nm and just eight minutes between the front three, with Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing and Dongfeng Race Team scooping silver and bronze. SERVICE Auckland was set to be the biggest challenge yet for our service team. We were scheduled for a full service including all winches, gearboxes, and pedestals. The last time a service of this level was completed was in Alicante before the race started. This was designed to equal all the boats out before the start of the race as they all had varying amounts of wear and use due to the deferent miles covered in training. Luckily, as mentioned previously, we managed to service the pedestals in Sanya to try and reduce the work load in Auckland. This move really paid off! We had six days to service all six boats with the boats being lifted back in on the 8th. The service team was split into three work groups and allocated their boats. This is decided in both the order of finishing as well as what other work is being undertaken by the team during the stopover. For example a number of the teams decided to paint decks during this stop which makes it very difficult to get onboard! Because of this, we had to remove winches from four of the six boats in the first day so we would not be held up during the week. Each boat took around three days to complete the full service with all six boats being signed off the morning of the 8th. Considering the conditions seen during leg four, there was very little damage to report and all teams were very happy with how the equipment had performed! The teams now have the 6,700 nm leg through the Southern Ocean to Itajai, Brazil. This is famed to be the hardest leg in the race with the boats heading south around Cape Horn.
