We continue our journey through Greece, driving around the Peloponnese visiting Monemvasia, Methoni and Vasiliki. We swim with turtles, explore a shipwreck and enjoy some stunning beaches that we have to ourselves in the off season. We then head north to Lefkada and board a ferry to Italy. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

Knowing how cold and wet the winter months can be in the UK we have decided to take a winter berth so we can stay plugged into shore power and feel the warmth of heating without worrying about have sufficient power. We also need to carry out some boat upgrades and tons of maintenance ready for spring when we plan to leave the marina and set sail south! We explore old haunts and discover an amazing new bakery, that will no doubt become a regular haunt over the following months. It supplies exquisite pastries, bread and savoury treats. We take a walk along Penarth sea front, have tea on the pier and prepare the boat for a lift out. As well as removing our dinghy for winter, we service the winches and discover fish in the heads. One of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets, the island of St Croix is almost completely surrounded by a barrier reef offering some of the best diving in the Virgin Islands. In this video we explore one of our favorite dive sites, located just off of St Croix's West shore. Devastated by Hurricane Hugo in 1989, the remains of St Croix‘s original Frederiksted Pier were gathered and sunk in Butler Bay at depths of 80-100 ft, creating an artificial reef for Caribbean Reef Sharks and named Armageddon. The Royal Malta Yacht Club welcomed a sizeable fleet to its yearly Boxing Day Fun Race in aid of L-Istrina, the annual fund raising marathon hosted by the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Setting of the fleet just outside the Royal Malta Yacht Club was Mrs. Miriam Vella, wife of the President of Malta and by Mr John Huber , Chairperson of the Governors' Board for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Whilst the weather was warm and sunny, the lack of wind meant that the fleet struggled to make its way out of Marsamxett Harbour onto the fairway buoy but nonetheless spirits were high as the brightly decorated boats slowly made their way out of the harbour. The annual Best Dressed Boat and Best Dressed Sailor is a highly competitive affair and due to the efforts made by participants the Club decided to award a joint prize for the two categories. Winners of the Best Dressed Boat when to Luis Azzopardi and Sara Baldwin’s Corona and to Ferdinand Grech’s KonTiki. The Best Dressed Sailor prize went to the two youngest sailors of the fleet – eight week old Eve Ripard, sailing on Calypso and 9 month old Tommy Agius Delicata sailing Vivace. Oscar Bielik won the Best Dressed Sailor from the RMYC Sailing School fleet. A total of Eur 3440, which included a very generous donation from Club Member Dr Simon Xuereb was presented to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

With sub zero temperatures, there's not a lot we can do today and to be honest i'm not sure how long i'm going to last either!! However I needed to fit and check my anchor chocs so I can refine that design. I also tested the Velcro to see if that managed to cure and stick to the deck. Lastly I took the new cushions with me to see how they felt and if they fit OK on the deck and as my mattress! We also have some lovely drone footage of the Boat yard and surrounding countryside.
