Veteran sail racer STEVE CURRAN talks about how you, your boat, your crew can get involved with the CYC SUNSET SERIES SAILBOAT RACES. You don't have to be a member of California Yacht Club, and your boat doesn't necessarily have to be a dedicated race vessel. The CRUISING CLASS encourages cruising sail vessels to participate.

Southern Wind began crafting infused carbon composite yachts with the first 100ft hull in 2004, and all the experience gained in 20 years of mastering this lamination technique has now been brought to bear in the construction of the new SW100X. Our unique female moulds are usually constructed from plywood and carefully assembled by hand, using precise measurements for perfect accuracy. We then coat these moulds with glass fabric and epoxy resin to ensure they are perfectly sealed and ready for the infusion process. This special finish not only seals the mould, but also gives the final product a beautiful, smooth surface. Thanks to this meticulous process, our yachts are incredibly accurate and match the original design perfectly. It's a win-win situation for both Southern Wind and our valued customers.

After voyaging from Canada to the UK with a separate crew, CSM sailed the 80ft Gran Mistral 'Weddell'', single-handedly from Southampton to Reykjavik, Iceland. There he met a new crew. After sail repairs, provisioning and safety training, the crew set sail for St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada; 1700Nm away. It was September and heavy weather was expected.

We’re relocating our digital compass from behind the saloon to the front cabin. Right now it’s too vulnerable to magnetic interference from all the metal things we want to store in the saloon, which means we can’t use that storage the way we’d like. In this video I’ll show you: How I use a magnimeter to hunt for a good new location How the compass calibrates to measure the local magnetic field and compensate for interference We won’t know for sure how well the new spot works until we leave port and do a proper sea recalibration! Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. EPISODE 341 After nearly a month exploring the Yasawa Islands in Fiji, it's time to move on. We're running low on provisions, we've explored the majority of the island group here, and it's time to sail back to Viti Levu—Fiji's main island—to resupply and prepare for what's next. But before we leave, we're taking one last dinghy ride to a secluded beach we spotted from the boat. No one around, completely untouched—just us, a hammock, a book, and a few hours of peace before we transition back to civilization. This episode is different. No big adventure, no drama—just a quiet day wrapping up our time in the Yasawas, preparing the boat for sail, and heading back across the water. A transition episode, if you will. But sometimes these are the moments that matter most. About the Yasawa Islands: The Yasawa Islands are a volcanic archipelago in Fiji, stretching about 80 kilometers northwest of Viti Levu. Known for dramatic landscapes, crystal-clear water, remote villages, and some of Fiji's best snorkeling and diving. Most cruisers visit for 1-2 weeks; we spent nearly a month exploring the chain from south to north. Why We're Leaving: Low on fresh provisions (food, water topped off but need variety) Completed our tour of the northern Yasawas Ready for new cruising grounds Cyclone season still active—staying flexible and mobile What's Next: We're heading to new island groups in Fiji (teased at the end of this episode). More exploration, new anchorages, and continuing our journey through the South Pacific.
