We have finished splicing all 6 mizzen shrouds (technically 4 plus 2 forestays) plus the 2 running backstays as well as all 8 chainplate loops. Now all the shrouds & stays need to be stretched to tighten the splices where the weave was opened when creating them. The chainplate loops have both splices and the knot to be tightened. We do all this in our back garden where we built a timber runway for the task of stretching our dyneema stuff. We use a crane scale to measure how much we tension the dyneema and another to measure the pull we are applying. ----- Présentation de la vidéo ----- Carnet de bord – Préparation du voilier pour le tour de la Bretagne et de la Normandie À l’approche du départ, l’excitation monte : dans quelques semaines, nous larguerons les amarres pour un tour de la Bretagne et de la Normandie qui devrait durer environ deux mois. Avant de prendre la mer, place à la préparation du voilier. Comme souvent, les « petites choses à faire » se transforment vite en chantier à part entière ! ✅ Travaux et améliorations à bord 🔋 Installation de 200W de panneaux solaires L’autonomie énergétique est un vrai enjeu pour ce type de voyage. Nous allons installer deux panneaux solaires (200W au total) pour alimenter les batteries de bord : éclairage, réfrigérateur, instruments, VHF… De quoi gagner en confort sans trop compter sur le moteur ou les escales pour recharger. 🧵 Nouvelle capote de roof La capote de roof a bien vécu, entre UV, embruns et rafales. On a décidé de la refaire complètement, pour mieux protéger le cockpit pendant la navigation et surtout lors des journées plus humides – fréquentes en Manche ! 🧽 Nettoyage de l’annexe L’annexe, un peu oubliée ces derniers mois, colle littéralement au toucher. L'exposition au soleil, les années passées, le sel… Un bon nettoyage s’impose. 🛠️ Entretien général du bateau En parallèle, on reprend la checklist classique de mise en route : Révision moteur : vidange, filtres, courroie, turbine, contrôle de l’hélice. Inspection du gréement et des voiles : tout doit être en bon état pour encaisser les rafales bretonnes. Sécurité : vérification des gilets, fusées, extincteurs, radeau, VHF, balise, etc. Électricité / électronique : mise à jour des logiciels de navigation, contrôle des batteries, test du pilote automatique, les essais. 🗺️ Bientôt le départ L’itinéraire se précise : départ prévu le 10 juillet avec une montée tranquille vers le Finistère, avant de remonter la côte nord jusqu’en Normandie, en fonction de la météo et des envies. We’ve officially hauled Sabado out of the water at Port Whangarei Marine Center in New Zealand, and the refit has begun! In this video, we take you through a day in our new routine: starting the morning at our rental house, commuting to the boatyard, and diving into our first big boat projects. We kick things off by tearing apart our bed to prep for a major power system upgrade. We also give you a tour of the yard facilities, and remove our cockpit fridge to make way for a new one. Entre ces moments intenses, il y a aussi la vie de famille à bord, les petits instants simples qui font tout le sel de cette aventure. Le lendemain matin, une annexe vient nous chercher en urgence : 👉 un voilier voisin a touché un récif et est littéralement en train de couler. On se mobilise pour aider, et cet événement nous pousse à réfléchir sérieusement à nos propres moyens d’urgence pour évacuer l’eau de mer si un jour, ça nous arrivait. Et puis… la mer sait aussi offrir des cadeaux. La rencontre avec Anabelle et Anibal. Des gens avec qui tout est devenu naturel, simple, honnête. Une soirée pizza chez Ibin, puis quelques jours plus tard un feu sur Morrodub — BBQ Island, des guimauves, des rires, de la joie pure. Il y a de rares fois où, sans trop savoir pourquoi, tu rencontres des gens et tout est fluide. Le plus difficile, c’est de savoir que le sablier coule, que ces rencontres sont éphémères, et que tôt ou tard viendra le moment de dire un vrai adieu — celui qu’on ne prononce qu’une seule fois. C’est comme ça sur l’eau. En attendant, on profite. On vit ces moments à fond. Et ils nous sortent, un peu, de la solitude que la mer impose parfois.

Wakako Tabata (JPN) didn't even know sailing was in the Olympic Games when she started sailing at nine. But once she got wind (see what I did there) it was a goal she aimed for and she will be sailing at the London 2012 Olympic Games alongside Ai Kondo in the Women's Two Person Dinghy, the 470.

The I-169 is the only submarine in the lagoon. The forward section and conning tower were blown apart by Japanese depth charges and there is a scattered debris field. The aft section is intact.
