In this episode we set our way further to the west. We take a quick stop in Ogden and then go to Salt lake city, It is big and the lake is beautiful. After a hot day we drive through the salt flats which is spectacular. It is another miracle of nature. Finally we stop by the Bonneville speedway that is so long that you can not see the end. It was a fantastic experience, the weather was hot but that didn’t bother us. Born in Bombay and raised in England, Tom’s first experience with boating was on Loch Garry in Scotland, where a mast promptly fell on his head. As you can imagine, this rather put him off boats, so he pursued other interests in a career that can perhaps most charitably be described as “interesting…” He has picked grapes in France, dealt roulette in Piccadilly, tour-managed a rock band in the United States, written a relationship column for a magazine, and travelled the world as a highly-trained monkey on a TV news crew. On the way, he has survived a dozen riots, two wars, an IRA bombing, and a doomed romance with a Hollywood blonde. If nothing else, this has taught him to show grace under pressure. It was only when he came to California, land of golden sunshine and the aforementioned blonde, that he returned to boating. Since then, he has worked at Dream Catcher Yachts in Dana Point, selling new Selene Ocean Trawlers & Pacific Seacraft, and ran Mason Yachts International in Marina del Rey, before joining Denison Yacht Sales in the same harbor. Early on when Toni and I were reviewing the Seawind 1260 options in Episode 10, we were unsure about the “Cookout BBQ” option commonly referred to as the “grill”. Where are the grates?, the open flame, the smoker . . .? We wondered if we should eliminate the “Cookout BBQ” in favor of a different grill, one with grates. After much discussion, we decided to convert our home grill to the same style as the Seawind “Cookout BBQ”, or the teppanyaki style. After a year, we share our thoughts on what we like and maybe what we did not like about this style of grill and make our recommendation. And as promised at the end of Episode 13, we will share our recipe for my skewer-less shish-kabobs. Join us for dinner as we share our thoughts.
