Found a couple areas we haven't touched on the port side and cut our way in. We moved onto the starboard side, sanded, and got 1 coat of primer down. Things are still moving fairly slowly but at least they're still moving. We made some good progress with the help of a couple of our groomsmen who spent their day sanding and cleaning. Doing this hull is almost like deja vu but we're taking some lessons learned and applying them early on. From some time out, day two of the GC32 World Championship in Villasimius, Sardinia was looking set to be tough, with light winds forecast. After one false start early on today, the fleet was returned to the Marina di Villasimius and it was only thanks to the perseverance of PRO Stuart Childerley and his valiant race committee, that when the southwesterly breeze finally filled in late in the afternoon, three races were held, the first only starting at 1630 CEST.

This week a shallow depression centred due west of Gibraltar has effectively shut down the famous trades, which typically provide 20+ knot winds at this time of year in the Canary Islands, making it world renowned as a water sports mecca. With a light-to-no wind forecast for the penultimate day of the 44Cup Calero Marinas Lanzarote, the weather gods did tentatively oblige and after more than an hour’s wait ashore, a race did get going but was abandoned when the wind dropped away. While the forecast didn’t look hopeful, the nine RC44 teams were patient and the race committee persevered and eventually were rewarded with one successful race when the wind filled in to 6-7 knots. In this it was the immaculate Team Aleph that led around the top mark. But Nico Poons’ Charisma took the lead on the first downwind and then defended well to gain the Dutchman’s team its first bullet of the regatta. “It felt good,” said Nico Poons once returned to Puerto Calero. “We had some bad ones, so we needed that.”

The 16th edition of the Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy got underway in light breeze and sunny skies. Perfect conditions for enjoying a day on the water with friends and family. PRO Peter Craig announced that the AP would be raised for the racing fleet until the breeze filled in, but that didn’t stop the Rendezvous fleet from getting their party started. Picnic lunches by Giagoni offered in partnership with Doyle Sails were distributed after the Captain’s briefing and the Rendezvous fleet enjoyed calm waters and sunny skies, heading towards Cala Coticcio at a leisurely pace for a quick swim. The wind filled in at 3PM and the fleet had a start off the Cala then raced each other south past Mortorio and finishing between the Cardinal and Nibani islands. After a good two hours of sailing fun, it was Sorceress who got line honours for the day. In the racing fleet Morgana finished fifth after two and a half hours of racing.

First off, it's nice to be back from France. Theres so much to do and i'm eager to get going!! We do have some bad news to tell you. My camper van is not very well and she's struggling to tow. Her automatic transmission fluid is overheating and I need to fit a cooler, chnge the oil and also add in a thermostat to ensure she can tow Lulu without worrying once again. Unfrotunately this means we'll be missing the Ullswater trip, but there's always next year. Anyway with the battery box in bits, corroded by sea water, we have to go back to the drawing board and this is the beginnings of Battery box MK2!!! Journey with us onboard the beautiful Mermaid I Liveaboard for a unique snorkeling safari starting in eastern Flores and passing through Komodo National Park for some big fish action, around a magnificent Volcano whose reefs bubble with geothermal activity, and a final stop at a bay where whale sharks are as close to guaranteed as you'll get in the wild.

It was finally time to head off our of Staniel Cay to make our way down to the killer cruiser destination of Georgetown, Exama. But we're in no hurry and we wanted to stop by a couple of anchorages we missed last year as well as Lee Stocking, Island. After provisioning at 4 (yes 4) grocery stores in Staniel Cay, we head off. We finally are able to snorkel the piano playing mermaid which, we've read, was hid underwater by David Copperfield. The exploration in this episode brings me back to my childhood. The Bahamas is truly a cruisers playground that will bring out the kid in all of us. Once we get to Georgetown, we needed to top off our tanks. 35 gallons of diesel and a trip to the Shell fuel dock and we're all topped off. It's a ton of work but I wouldn't trade it for anything. We finally get our first exposure to the awesome cruising community, daily meet ups at Chat and Chill and Volleyball. Tons of fun. We'll start our group snorkel safari on the northeast coast of Sumbawa where we'll have access to four different regions—Sumbawa, Sangeang Volcano, Gili Banta Island, and West Komodo—for some truly amazing and unique snorkeling.  Because there is so little human traffic here, we'll find pristine hard and soft corals in abundance. The area has busy fish life, lots of turtles, larger rays, and reef sharks cruising around. Also around Sangeang Volcano, which is still semi-active, we'll swim over bubbling black sands and hyper-rich reefs. They're unlike any of the others reefs in the region because of its nutrient-dense volcanic substrate. Kalimaya has its own fantastic house reef where you are welcome to snorkel at your leisure. Our snorkel safari continues at Bangka Island, a remote island off the northeast coast of Sulawesi. We'll be staying at the newly renovated Coral Eye Resort. Here in Bangka, we'll blown away by the sheer beauty and density of the marine life and reefscapes just beneath the surface. If we're lucky, we may see the resident dugong, known to cruise the shallow waters surrounding the resort. They're rarely seen in most other parts of the Indo-Pacific, but regularly spotted around this magical little island. We'll also do a day trip to Lembeh Straits where we can enjoy some of the world's best sites for critter snorkeling! Coral Eye also has its own amazing house reef which will no doubt be a place we spend hours exploring. The final leg of this amazing group snorkeling tour will be spent in Raja Ampat, at the wonderful Papua Explorers Resort. There is a huge variety of snorkeling sites close to the resort that play host to some of the most diverse marine habitats found anywhere on earth. Expect pristine coral gardens packed with hard and soft corals that carpet the island slopes up to the surface. Here, masses of fish life explode from the reefs. We also have good chances of swimming next to bigger creatures such as manta rays, reef sharks, schools of jacks & batfish.
