Ernesto Bertarelli’s Alinghi team today won both the GC32 Menor Mar Cup on Spain’s Costa Calida as well as the 2021 GC32 Racing Tour title. After a blistering five race day on Saturday, the conditions on Murcia’s inland sea for the final day proved challenging with less wind than forecast. Nonetheless one race was held in a 6-7 knot northwesterly.

This is the fourth episode of many to come that is following the build and launching of "Glass Slipper." A Jim Antrim designed 40 foot offshore race boat that is being built on location at the Berkeley Marine Center in Berkeley California. The Berkeley Marine Center is very fortunate to have a lot of friends in the business to help make this project possible. Dave Collignon from Rev Chem the supplier of the composite building supplies for the project and our project manager who has been involved from the beginning. Whether its making sure Cree has ordered the right parts, building spreaders, grinding fiberglass or vacuum bagging carbon panels he's all in to make sure we make it to the finish line! In this episode part of the sailing team participates in the required US Sailing Safety at Sea Seminar down at the San Diego Yacht Club. Back at the yard things are getting close to launching, final paint, final rigging, and getting down to the small but important details.

On Day 7 of the 2024 RORC Transatlantic Race - After IRC time correction the race leader is Chris Sheehan’s PAC52 Warrior Won (USA), approximately 200 miles behind Leopard which is set for Monohull Line Honours. The early race leader overall under IRC was Richard Fromentin’s JPK 1180 Cocody (FRA), which is now ranked second overall 1700 miles from Grenada. #sailingtheworld #Guadeloupe #Les-saintes Sailing in Guadeloupe, the French butterfly shaped island, must be the best kept secret in the Caribbean. Interestingly, we did not see many Americans here. - it is a missed opportunity! The French island is an absolute joy to explore. And we only covered half of it. We toured the west side of Guadeloupe which is called Basse Terre and is the more mountainous region. We did not visit the central or south areas or the east side (called Grand Terre) which is much flatter and low ground, or Marie Galant. Here is our Itinerary. DeShaies - We stopped here for customs checkin and stayed a couple days. We enjoyed the L’Amer restaurant, the food was great but service was slow. Lots of restaurants and shops here, in the Caribbean dirty buildings style. We toured the botanical garden (https://jardin-botanique.com/). Not much was in bloom when we visited. Pigeon Island - We anchored then at Malendure, and went snorkeling at the Jacque Cousteau Underwater Marine Park. Snorkeling was not great - most of the best coral was deeper so diving would have been better. Malendure did not have a dinghy dock for town either, so we did not stay long. Boullante - Large anchorage with a thermal bath from volcanic steam in one corner! Guadeloupe has 5 hot thermal springs in the Bouillante area - see map. Some are so hot that you can swim in them only when they are cooled by the sea. The most famous are the Bain chaud de Thomas , the sulphurous spring of the village , produced by geothermal energy, the Bain du Curé , the beach of Anse à Sable. But there are many more, like those of the beach of Petite Anse, Bois-Malher or even at Anse du Dépôt. The hot springs were quickly identified and used for their thermal properties by early French settlers.  Although hydrotherapy was not developed in Bouillante, the hot waters still made it possible to create the first geothermal power plant in France . Clean and renewable electricity which produces 10% of Guadeloupe's consumption and intends to grow up to 22%. Basse Terre - This capital city was our next stop. We filled up with diesel at the marina and then anchored by the Riviere de Sans Marina. We stocked up on groceries at the Super U - amazing what you can do with a car! We visited the Cimitiere - not just your ordinary cemetery - here all of the burial spots have mini houses built so you can come and hang out with your loved ones who have passed. It was the perfect spot to explore the rainforest. We rented a car and drove to the Chutes de Carbet - 5 waterfalls by the mouth of the volcano. We hiked and rock climbed to 2 of the falls - an all day event. It was breathtaking, but difficult and dangerous. We have a separate video on that hike you won’t want to miss. Les Saintes -. Made up of nine unspoiled islands, only two are inhabited. Terre de Haut has bistro lined streets, a turquoise water bay, and truly is an island worth visiting. On the main village drag, less than a five-minute walk from the dock, Au Bon Vivre French restaurant with Caribbean flair, was our favorite dinner spot. Our second favorite was actually in a hotel called Le Kanaoa, with it’s own dock and overlooking the bay. Vauban style Fort Napoleon, overlooks the bay of Les Saintes, and is worth exploring - although only open in the mornings. It has been uniquely preserved with a museum as well as cactus gardens throughout the fort. Terre de Bas We anchored at Anse Fidelin which turned out to be one of our favorites - quiet, good snorkeling. We see our first crocodile! Then it's time to set sail again south toward Bali, stopping first at the island of Bawean. While raising sails we discover a pointy-nosed stowaway. The 44Cup has visited Marstrand on Sweden’s west coast every year since 2011, with the only exception being in 2016. A few old faces to spot as we wizz back in time to celebrate this beautiful racing destination.

November 16-18, 2020 In this episode we find ourselves in Quiberon. The Quiberon Peninsula is a tourist hotspot in Brittany with around 30 km of coastline. This part of Brittany is known for its beautiful long beaches. However, we only scrape the surface of this gem as we only stop for 1 night before sailing farther south to Ile d'Yeu. In just the short time we have, though, we discover a little of the area’s cute neighborhood, art, a fairytale private castle, known as Château Turpault, and the rugged coastline. The boys, including Anna & Sergey’s boys, of course, found everything to be a new playground! 😉 In their perspective there was much more to explore! Nikolai, as always, started jumping & flipping off the wall onto the beach & the other boys followed along! The boys find the waves, rocks and even trash to be amusing and the also developed their new language called “Rikki Tikki” along the way. Back at the boat, all the boys were busy creating their own language called Rikki Tikki, while we adults got ready for the next passage to I’l de Y’eau. As you can see, we set sail before Chiquita – and they passed us up, as usual, BUT – wait and see who wins “the race” (which, any sailor knows – whenever 2 sailboats sail the same way, it’s an unspoken understanding that it’s a race! 😊 ) As you can probably hear – we were sailing against the wind…ideal for us – for speed…NOT so ideal for a catamaran! We were racing along!...and the dolphins love speed and came out to play!! We arrived Ile d’Yeu just before sunset…and BEFORE Chiquita! A first for us…That was a little satisfying, we must admit. What a beautiful passage! Btw – on the way, we discovered that an amazing weather-window to cross the Bay of Biscay diagonally opened up! We decided to skip touring the island and sail on early the next morning. That meant we would have to leave, Chiquita, though – they planned to take it easy with many small stops down the coast of Europe, but our goal was to make it to the Canaries as fast as possible! So, this was our chance! El norte del Mar de Cortés nos recibió con fondeaderos algo movidos, otro ataque de abejas y algunos de los mejores momentos que hemos vivido navegando por esta costa. Seguimos avanzando rumbo norte y encontramos lugares muy diferentes entre sí: zonas tranquilas, rincones poco conocidos y espacios donde tuvimos que adaptarnos un poco más. Las abejas volvieron a aparecer, aunque esta vez ya teníamos claro cómo manejarlo. Durante el camino pudimos disfrutar de delfines, tiburones, atardeceres que cambian cada día y noches de bioluminiscencia que siempre sorprenden.
