I'm so sad!!! My tender died...... a very slow and dragged out death!! We tried (for years) to patch her up and save her but eventually it was to much and she's now gone forever 🥲😂 there wasn't enough sticky glue on the planet which could fix her this time!! How much space do you really need on a toilet to do your business? Well at least enough room to reach behind you and wipe!! Last week you'll have seen that we received our compact toilet from Vetus, and this week we figure out placement for it in the master head. Which truthfully, is much easier said than done since we need to consider how far it will intrude in our walking space, as well as how much counter/vanity space it could cut down on. Plus, there's the ever important 'reach around' test. Then we take a few minutes to discuss our thoughts on the Vision 444 catamaran, which is one of the boats we had really been looking forward to touring at the Annapolis Boat Show, but did not make it. Thankfully we'd been introduced to the owner's last summer and they were happy to have us aboard to poke our heads around before departing for warmer waters. As a catamaran sized much closer to ours (as opposed to the 48 & 52 foot versions we saw at the show), it gave us a great idea for what's possible in that kind of spacing. We didn't know how long we'd be stuck on the coast of Florida, but it turns out we were given a window to get to the Bahamas! Getting to the Palm Beach Inlet took a full day of motoring from Stuart, full of the bascule bridges we would love to try and avoid if only we trusted the two inlets north of Palm Beach. And the weather window we had been rushing to get of course changed course on it. A few extra days hanging around Palm Beach, and we were given the weather window we were looking for to get to the Bahamas. With nice 15 knot winds out of the south, we thought the crossing would be everything we'd planned for it to be, except the Gulf Stream had other plans in mind for us. Cheers from the Bahamas! She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. We’ve been excited to share this video for a while, we sail and explore around Milos Island in the Cyclades - Greek Islands. That is not an affiliate link, we just actually keep in touch with them and we love the brand. We visit four of the best beaches: Kleftiko, Firiplaka, Tsigrado and Sarakiniko beaches. We arrive in the dark after sailing from the Peloponnese and anchor right out the front of Kleftiko Beach. Jase surprises me with an amazing 10 year wedding anniversary and we spend the morning exploring the crazy rock formations on the tender. We then jump in the irresistible water to see more below the surface. With a very fast storm approaching we are forced to leave this magical place. All good though, as our next stop is another distinctive beach, Firiplaka Beach. The large mountains with their unusually colourful rock faces meet the sand and the perfect blue Aegean Sea and we spend a cruisey afternoon wandering the beaches as the sun sets. Next beach is just around the corner and again we are able to anchor Kawai right out the front of this isolated beach. We tender in to Tsigrado Beach and discover the other way to get to this beach: a couple of precarious ladders perched in the crevice of the cliffs and see why it is so secluded. We are mesmerised by the unique colours and stunningly crystal clear water and of course jump in for a swim. The wind picks up and unfortunately it is time to leave. We sail up the east coast of Milos and choose the anchorage at Pollonia and drop in to this cute Cycladic fishing village for a beer. After a great sail, we reach our last beach, the iconic Sarakiniko Beach. After struggling to anchor amongst a lot of rock, we finally find a nice patch of sand to drop the Mantus anchor and head in to get a closer look at this incredible place. Words don’t do this place justice and we hope our video gives you a bit of an idea how incredible and unique Milos Island really is. This year my birthday was spent enjoying our last full 24 hours on our boat before we handed her over to the new owner and walked away forever. I could make this post all sad, and talk about how I was kicked out of my home on my birthday....but since I asked for this, I was just as delighted about it as I was sad. But yes, the moment has finally come where we hand Elements off to her new owner. After getting one last little trip in as we headed down the river and into the town of Falmouth, we had one full day left on her before packing up and walking away. And as many emotions as we had running through us at the time, we tried not to let ourselves think about it too hard. Not while we were still there. The good news is, passing her over to her new owner Brice, was so incredibly easy, and it was really nice to have a face to go with the long conversations we'd been having over the previous month. Estamos ya navegando en la Ruta de los Grandes Faros 2022 a bordo del Quinto Real, rumbo al Oeste. Una vez más, la historia se repite al paso por los puertos de Cantabria. En esta ocasión, todavía es peor: en San Vicente de la Barquera no nos permiten ni siquiera desembarcar a tripulantes para depositar las basuras, hacer provisión de pan, gas y otras cosas necesarias, cuando ya llevamos tres días sin tocar tierra. El Guardamuelles de Puertos de Cantabria, nos trata con desprecio y sin ninguna consideración, no ofreciendo ninguna alternativa para desembarcar en ningún punto del puerto. Esta vez esto es la gota que colma el vaso y llamamos a la Guardia Civil para que intervengan en la toma de datos para la posterior denuncia que efectuamos en la primera localidad de Asturias en la que podemos desembarcar... Aquí contamos los detalles.

The sailboat cruising lifestyle is often described as a dream and in a great many ways, it is. What we gain in freedom however, we give up in convenience. So when mail time comes, it’s usually a build up of 6 months worth of of packages and two very excited humans… and today the postman’s arrived. We eagerly raced over to the town of St Georges in Grenada to collect our long awaited packages. After navigating some bureaucratic hoops we were finally able to do our unboxing. Sadly we couldn't collect it all in one go so we headed over to one of our favourite spots nearby, Morne Rouge to kill a few days enjoying the sunshine (and the rain) and the warm, clean water. Finally our second package arrived which contained 80 pounds of rigging! for Adam to haul to the dinghy and back to the boat.
