Just a bot of an eclectic sail today. Starting off with a couple of heave-to's!, then do a few circuits, passing the sailing club. I didge a few boats and then head for home. It's a good demonstration of how not to moor up!! 00:00 Hove-to 01:35 Setting the mizzen on our way 03:04 A grumpy wind! 03:50 Heaving to the other way and reefing the Mizzen 05:17 On our way again 06:54 heading to the club 11:08 Dousing the sails 16:12 Motoring home 19:10 Mooring up (3rd time lucky!!!)

The first America's Cup (AC1) held in 1851 was like so many other in the way it was surrounded by controversy. The yacht America was purpose built to challenge the British fleet sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to France were she was then fitted out with a new rig to allow her to compete effectively in a race around the Isle of Wight. The Royal Yacht Squadron and it's members must still look back and wonder how they let the America's Cup, which at the time was call the 100 Guineas cup slip through there fingers. The member of the British fleet had many chances to stop America winning the first America's cup (AC1). From incorrect and inconsistent sailing instructions to collisions and boats running aground, any of which may have altered the course of history and prevented America from going not to create the longest ever winning streak in international sport. The biggest mistake the Royal Yacht Squadron made was not to accept the entry of the Cutter Wildfire, this they did they would have changed the course of yachting history. Wildfire was a small but swift boat which moveable ballast which was in the form of sand bags which were moved from side to side when the boat tacked or gybed to increase her righting moment. While Wildfire was not the largest yacht to sail around the Isle of Wight she was the fastest with several reputable news agency reporting that she was first to complete the course but her finish time was not recored as she was not officially entered in the race. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, if only the RYS race committee had accepted the entry Great Britain may have been the one creating the majority of the history surrounding the America's cup. The team at Bottom Up Boats hopes that you enjoyed our What IF, look at the controversial points that surround the 1851 America's. Merveilleuse Casamance, merveilleuse population !

After a fantastic time in Grado it was time to leave for our boats winter home. As the trip was in November, the sea was pretty rough from the previous nights storm! We also had to go a little short than usual because the afternoon was predicted to be cloudy, and having a solar powered catamaran means that on cloudy days your need to go slightly slower! #boatdog #sailinglife #electriccatamaran

Discover the Granocean W-60 | Luxury Power Catamaran Yacht Learn more here: https://catamaranguru.com/gran-ocean-power-catamarans/ Welcome to a behind-the-scenes tour at Granocean Shipyards, where craftsmanship and engineering meet in the construction of the W-60 — a 60-foot performance cruising yacht designed with precision, philosophy, and structural integrity. Eric, the lead builder, stays after hours to guide us through the current state of the build. With the hull and deck now jointed, the team has entered a critical phase: installing the main deck sole and lower deck sole — key structural components that unify the vessel. Structural Methodology Spotlight Eric emphasizes the importance of cohesive connectivity between all components. Four continuous bulkheads run transversely from port to starboard, forming the backbone of the boat. These aren’t just structural walls — they are integrated load pathways that connect the hull, deck, cockpit, and bilge into a single high-integrity unit. Every cut, bond, and layout choice reflects a deeply considered philosophy of durability, performance, and system harmony. The W-60 is the product of years of refinement at Granocean, known for custom high-performance catamarans that marry engineering integrity with owner-led customization. The W-series was born from a desire to break with traditional compromise-laden layouts and instead create vessels optimized from the hull up. The W-60 leverages lessons learned from the early W-52s and 62s, while integrating client feedback and performance testing across oceans. Each W-series hull carries forward a philosophy of monocoque strength, minimized vibration, and exacting weight distribution. Whether you're a seasoned sailor, aspiring builder, or simply fascinated by the inner workings of yacht construction, this video offers a detailed, unfiltered look at how expert shipwrights bring a high-performance vessel to life. 🛥️ KEY FEATURES: - 60-foot (17.9m) length with a 28.5 ft beam for unmatched interior space - Open or enclosed flybridge configurations, plus a sports-fisher version - Interior by Vripack – choose from Mediterranean, Scandinavian, Elegant Chique, or Cosmopolitan styles - Twin diesel engines with options up to 715 HP for speeds up to 26 knots - Ocean-capable with CE Certification Category A - Fully customizable layout and finish for discerning owners - Semi-planing flared hulls with high bridge deck clearance for superior seakeeping - Advanced composite construction with carbon reinforcement and structural engineering by Gurit Structural Engineer: Gurit SP Naval Architect: Howard Apollonio Designer: Eric So – Granocean Interior: VRIPACK Overall length: 58.70 feet / 17.90 meters Maximum beam: 28.50 feet / 8.70 meters Draft: 4.00 feet / 1.20 meters Maximum displacement: 30.000 Kg/ 66.140 lbs Engines: 2 x Cummins QSB6.7 380mhp Diesel Engine Fuel: 4,500 Liters/1,320 US gallons Fresh water: 1,000 Liters /264 US gallons Stay tuned for more information about GranOcean and its catamarans. Day 3 delivered a complete contrast to the strong offshore winds of Day 2. While the forecast hinted at fading light northerlies, the racecourse came alive with a classic southern thermal, setting up a full afternoon of tactical, high-quality racing across the fleets. 🔹 *420 Male/Mixed* We opened coverage with the 420 Male/Mixed fleet, where consistency proved decisive. 🇺🇦 Ukraine’s Sviatoslav Madonich and Dmytro Karabadzhak claimed two race wins to maintain their overall lead. 🇮🇱 Israel’s Ziv Shtub and Loya Sheffler put together a strong day to move into a tie for first, while 🇫🇷 France’s Simon Prot and Swan Joyet round out the podium positions. 🔹 *ILCA Fleets* In *ILCA 6 Men*, 🇺🇸 American David Coates moved into the overall lead after scoring a 1st, 2nd, and 6th. 🇨🇿 Jiri Tomes (CZE) and 🇨🇾 Emilios Boeros (CYP) sit second and third. The *ILCA 6 Women* saw a dominant performance from 🇪🇸 Irene de Tomás, extending her lead to 16 points. 🇮🇪 Sienna Wright (IRL) is second, followed by 🇺🇦 Alina Shapovalova (UKR) in third. 🔹 *Morning Fleets* The morning session featured *Nacra 15, 29er Male/Mixed, and iQFOiL*. Light winds led to slalom racing for the iQFOiL sailors. 🇮🇱 Peleg Rajuan retained the men’s overall lead, while 🇮🇹 Medea Falcioni held onto the women’s lead. In the *Nacra 15, 🇫🇷 Marius Praud and Emilie Mansouri extended their advantage, and in the **29er Male/Mixed*, 🇵🇱 Szymon Kolka and Bartosz Zmudzinski moved into the overall lead. 🔹 *420 Female* The afternoon broadcast focused on the 420 Female fleet, completing three races. 🇬🇧 Sabine Potter and Merle Nieuwland climbed into the overall lead, with 🇫🇷 Emy Combet and Juliette Peyre in second, tied on points with 🇳🇿 Tessa Clinton and Amelia Higson in third. 🔹 *Late Racing* Later in the day, the *29er Female* and *Formula Kite* fleets finally launched. The 29er Female fleet completed three races, with 🇵🇱 Antonina Puchowska and Alicja Dampc now leading overall. The *Formula Kite Men and Women* both completed three races, with early leaders 🇨🇭 Gian Andrea Stragiotti and 🇨🇳 Suofeiya Li. Day 3 was all about adaptation — from light offshore conditions in the morning to an unstable but productive afternoon thermal. With leaderboards tightening and momentum shifting, the championship is building toward an exciting finish. 👉 Subscribe and follow our livestreams and social channels for daily highlights, live racing, and updates. #YSWC2025 #420sailing #29ersailing #nacra15 #ilca #IQFoil #FormulaKite

What is antifoul and why do boats need it? 🌊⛵ Antifoul is a protective coating applied below the waterline to prevent marine growth like barnacles, weed, and slime from attaching to a boat’s hull. In this reel, we break down what antifoul does, why it’s essential for performance and efficiency, and why choosing the right type matters — especially for aluminium boats like ours. If you’ve ever wondered what’s happening under the waterline, this one’s for you. Join Jude and Richard aboard Helios for a memorable Alicante city day before our season-closing sail to Cartagena – our winter berth in Spain. We wander the beautiful foreshore along the iconic Explanada de España — that wavy mosaic promenade lined with palm trees and offering stunning sea views. We stroll into the charming old town, stopping for a coffee and pastry, and duck under enormous shady trees when a quick shower passes through. Then we dive into the lively Mercado Central (Alicante Central Market), a 1920s treasure trove bursting with fresh seafood, local produce, cheeses, olives, pastries, and vibrant energy – perfect for grabbing provisions or soaking up authentic Spanish market life. We visit the elegant Concatedral de San Nicolás (Co-Cathedral of Saint Nicholas), a serene Renaissance masterpiece with its striking blue-tiled dome, peaceful cloister, and historic charm right in the heart of the old town. We finish with the easy lift up to Castillo de Santa Bárbara (just €2.70, 30-second ride from near Postiguet Beach) for incredible panoramic views over Alicante Bay, the city, and the Mediterranean – no steep hike needed, and the castle grounds are free to explore with ancient history dating back to the 9th century. A fun surprise: we stroll down the whimsical Calle de Las Setas (aka Mushroom Street or Calle San Francisco) – transformed in 2013 into a fairy-tale wonderland with giant colorful mushroom sculptures, toadstool "houses," yellow brick roads, and playful installations by artist Sergio Martinez. It's a quirky, photo-friendly spot that brings out the childlike joy amid the city bustle – a quick, delightful detour! The passage to Cartagena (~50–70 NM) was wonderfully calm – flat seas and sunshine meant mostly motor-sailing, giving us time to reflect. There's a touch of sadness wrapping up active Med cruising for a few months, but we're genuinely excited to settle into Cartagena: exploring its Roman amphitheater, historic port, local festivals, marina routine, boat tinkering, and deeper community vibes while recharging for what's next. Perfect for anyone eyeing Costa Blanca stops, Med wintering, or loving real couple vlogs with city gems, quirky finds, and honest sailing conditions (even the motory ones!). ** Now Sold ** The Catalina 320 is one of the roomiest yachts for its size on the market today and is one of the world's most popular boats with well over 2,000 built. It is a joy to sail, having a "big boat" feel yet easily handled by a small crew. The cockpit is large enough to allow two adults to stretch out and sleep on those balmy nights and the traveller is on the coach house out of the way making it a very safe boat for a couple with young children. Below decks she has two private double cabins and a saloon that will sit 6 for dinner. "Sansterre" is in good condition with the added bonus of being built to NSW survey requirements.
