Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. "These shoes are made for walking"... Well maybe not with flip flops when you're hiking in the forest ;) Join us as we explore Terre De Haut in Les Saintes by walking up and down the hills. It's such a beautiful island and so colorful. Then we sail to Guadeloupe along the west coast of Basse Terre to the anchorage in Deshaies where Malin bakes a tasty galley bread. Galley bread á la Carpe Diem á la RAN: 8 dl (3,38 American cups) wheat flour 2 dl (0,84 cups) rye flour or other kind of whole grain 25 gr (0,88 oz) dry yeast 5 dl (2,11 cups) water around 40 C 2 tablespoons of oil 2-3 teaspoons of salt Sunseed, hazelnuts or what you prefer to give some "bite". Mix everything and then knead the dough. It's pretty sticky. Wipe the bread pan with some oil. Pour the dough in the bread pan and let it rise for 30 minutes. The dough should be about twice the size when it's done. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes on the highest temperature. Wait a while before taking out the bread from the pan and it will come out easier. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Charlie Dalin on MACIF Santé Prévoyance has won the Vendée Globe 2024-25, and in the process has destroyed the previous record, finishing at 07:24:49 UTC on Tuesday 14th January in a time of 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, 49 seconds. The previous record, set by Armel Le Cléac'h on Banque Populaire VIII in the 2016-17 edition of the race was 74 days, 3 hours and 36 minutes, meaning that Dalin has taken a staggering 9 days, 8 hours, 12 minutes and 57 seconds off the previous reference. The scenes in Les Sables d'Olonne were spectacular, with a full moon before dawn illuminating the IMOCA yacht and a huge spectator fleet following him into the line. With clear skies, the golden hue of the sun made for an incredible backdrop in what is a fitting and deserved win for Dalin, who has lived up to his tag of pre-race favourite in emphatic style, sailing 27,667.91 nautical miles at an average speed of 17.79 knots. While testing our new Precision Sails last week, we sailed to the small island of Ile Fourchue. Before heading back, we jumped in for a swim and enjoyed having the bay all to ourselves. We then took off for a fantastic day of sailing, ending up in Grand Case, St Martin. Knowing our engine was overdue for some love and having ticked the fun and frivolities for the week, Adam spent a few days in the engine bay replacing oil and belts. Enter Khiara on the last task of changing the impeller to try and help! The show immediately ground to a halt (as did the use of our engine) when a bolt broke on the final task. But there's much more to Menorca than Mahon and we are keen to explore the fabulous calas in the North of the island. But after a couple of days in Fornells, another great natural harbour, we cross to Sardinia. It's a two night crossing to get to Sardinia and after a slow start we get good wind and make great progress. The first thing that hit us about Sardinia was the clarity of the water. It really is like a swimming pool. A perfect place for Judy to practice diving with the snorkel and for me to film some anchor tests with what we are now sure is the best anchor available. I solo sail from Costa Rica to Panama and take on the epic adventure of navigating up a windy, shallow and quite remote river upon my arrival in Panama. My depth sounder has seen bigger numbers for sure, charts are incorrect and I have to be on my toes not to ground my sailboat on a riverbank. The return to Panama lays a little heavy on my heart...but at least, Panama still has spots for me to discover, which always makes returning not quite so bad ;).
