Bonita is back on Nandji, I have overstayed my visa... Must be time to sail! Of course something goes wrong... https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, Bonita returns back to Dili, after a 3 week trip to Australia for medical and family reasons. Given the all clear from anything life threatening, she hurried back to Nandji and we set about getting everything in order ready to leave. We get a Social visa for Indonesia, Load up on food and water and chase down our new Lithium batteries from ReLion. After a little confusion with paperwork, of course nothing is easy, we finally get our batteries on board and set some sails south. Our destination, Kupang, in Indonesia. Not having the luxury of waiting for a weather window as I had overstayed my visa, we head to sea in a 200nm upwind sail. Arriving to Kupang, the Nandji tradition of something going wrong upon arrival continues... NANDJI"S NEW MOTOR We reached our target for getting Nandji a new engine! YEW! Thanks to everyone who helped us on this mission to upgrade Nandji and prepare her for next years adventures! Over 200 people contributed and we now have a new engine currently being shipped to Malaysia to await our arrival! https://www.paypal.me/SailingNandji We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and our now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesailingnandji CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! Today's new episode features a pretttty huge milestone 🤯 After the last weeks spent crammed in the forward tech space tinkering away, we're ready to put some power in the system and see if we can bring our Combi electric motor to life! Should we quit our jobs and head out for an adventure while we are young? Or should we build the nest egg and RETIRE so we NEVER HAVE TO COME BACK? Could we work AND go cruising? A few months ago we interviewed 5 cruising couples who were in their "freshman" year of cruising. Today, we hear from the Seniors. Experienced cruisers with over one hundred years of combined experience give their answers to the questions: Should we GO NOW on a sabbatical? How practical is it to WORK while cruising? Should we WAIT until retirement? Steve will be staying in Granby full time for the near future to be with family. Here's an update on what that means for videos going forward for now. Next week, look out for a video on a visit Steve made to an Oyster farm back in Maine. And if Steve is able to get away again, he's hoping to head back north to pick up Victoria and bring her back to Granby to do some repairs and hopefully get the sailing rig put together at long last. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! How do we manage to prepare our sailboat for a 2 weeks passage from Brazil to the Caribbean? There's a lot of things to think about when planning a long passage. Join us in this episode to find out how we did it while enjoying some time at the Cabanga Yacht Clube in Brazil and to see a lot of DIY projects: installing Iridium, setting up our spinnaker pole, new lines for specific purpose (boom preventer, future flags...) and so on! So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her. The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Yesterday Team Holcim-PRB crash-gybed after an autopilot issue, resulting in an all-hands-on-deck situation to right the boat and get back on their way. However this endeavour led the two top battens of the mainsail to break, which the crew had to quickly handle to resume the pursue of Team Malizia. #TheOceanRace Don’t forget to subscribe for more The Ocean Race: https://goo.gl/BzBCwU Check out our full video catalogue: https://goo.gl/nrB9ay Like The Ocean Race on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theoceanrace/ Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theoceanrace/ Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theoceanrace/ Read More: http://www.theoceanrace.com

Freebie has been at anchor for a few weeks, and in that time period we've lost a lot of sleep worrying about dragging anchor. It seems that our fears were warranted as we drug multiple times in those few weeks. Aside from getting hung up on sunken engine blocks, our 200' of chain and 35 pound mantus seemed to do nothing for us anytime it blew over 15 knots because of the poor holding. It was time get out of that anchorage before we drug to shore. We found an affordable private dock here in Marathon, FL and we're sleeping much better at night now. If you're looking for affordable dockage in the keys, I encourage you to post in local facebook groups like we did. We had multiple people reach out to us with offers to rent their dock space at a reasonable rate. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ Companies featured in our vlogs: https://www.learningthelines.com/partners ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. Huge Thank You to the MIKELSON YACHTS, Sam & PJ Sullivan for hosting and for letting us explore on our own. Join us on the Self-guided Tour;) of this Brand New Model of MIKELSON 43 GEN II. This Tour was very interesting for us because it's the same size range as the boat we currently own and live on. It has some great features I would love to have on board, a great layout, awesome design! At hull speed, the M43 is as efficient as most single-engine trawlers, making her an outstanding “hybrid” for both the cruiser and angler. I loved the galley, the salon is so comfy, the use of space on the flybridge is fantastic, great engine room and the hidden storage/Utility area was a total gem! Mikelson's quality and attention to detail are always very impressive. Great Boat for the fishing weekend trips, even a liveaboard or a second home! Also, MIKELSON YACHTS are all semi-custom, so you can definitely create the perfect space to accommodate your own preferences. Let me know what you think of this one in the comments underneath the video and also if you would Order your own Semi-custom Mikelson 43 gen II what would you do differently? 0:00 Intro 1:17 Exterior 6:42 Flybridge 8:26 Interior 14:14 Guest Cabin 16:44 Master Cabin 18:08 Engine Room 19:06 Specs 20:08 Outtakes Interested in PURCHASING a MIKELSON YACHT? https://mikelsonyachts.com/m43/ https://mikelsonyachts.com THANK YOU FOR YOUR LIKES, COMMENTS, SHARES, AND SUBS! It's time to get back to work on our dodger, now we're laying the tracks on the cabin house and cockpit combing for the bolt rope to slide into. First though, we take a little time to appreciate Antigua after our busy schedule and go for a hike on the Goat Trail next to English Harbour. Passing through the old fort, it is full of history, spectacular views, and you guessed it...goats. When we do get back to work it's time to lay the tracks on our cabin top and adhere it directly to the deck. Finding the the proper line for the track to follow is half the task though. Once we do get it figure out, as well as the curve we want the track to take on the cabin top, it's time to secure it down with West System G-Flex. Bending the track to the proper curve, we weight it down overnight and in the morning are confident enough in the adhesion to continue the project. Otherwise, we just spend our time hanging out and enjoying our last few days in Antigua. One night while having a friend over for a beer we go on a runaway dinghy chase and end up having sundowners on the beach. Our last night in Antigua is spent with s/v Calico Skies and s/v Jabberwocky, trying to find some good and cheap eats at a local joint, after a crazy cab ride with our driver Bling. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? We think we have found Colombia's busiest anchorage! Cartagena de Indias use to be South Americas biggest and most important port. Yoann Richomme on Paprec Arkéa took the lead in the Vendée Globe on Saturday, and continues his charge towards Cape Horn, but Charlie Dalin on MACIF Santé Prévoyance seems unfazed, biding his time for when the Atlantic conditions may suit him and his IMOCA design better. Elsewhere, Boris Herrmann has moved up to 7th, overtaking Yannick Bestaven in a very close Pacific Ocean cross, Sam Goodchild updates us from Vulnerable, Boris Herrmann dreams of a white Christmas, and Paul Meilhat is trying to stop his boat leaking. As always, we bring you the latest tracking, leaderboard and PredictWind routing options for Richomme and also Thomas Ruyant, who has a storm to contend with approaching Cape Horn. Additionally, we bring you an update from Pip Hare on her slow boat to Melbourne, Australia after her dismasting. #vg2024 #imoca #vendeeglobe #sailing
We are freshly home from Vietnam, and we are stoked to get back to working on our own boat. There's a lot coming up for me (in the next few episodes) of what I learned at Max Cruise for fairing...but first, we backtrack a little. Going back a few months to this spring, Matt had made gutters for our transom hatches (so no water leaks into them when the door is closed) and we get them attached and prep the area for gelcoat. Then it's time for new neighbors in the work yard, and it happens to be another YouTube couple - James and Natalie of Sailing Zeypher! Just after their arrival we all take a break from work to celebrate the 4th of July in lovely Bay Ridge, just outside of Annapolis. A picture perfect slice of Americana, we made it a full day with parades, egg toss, and fireworks. Back at the build I begin to prep a few of the bulkheads in our forward berth for fairing - but due to the extreme heat, we have to call it quits at lunch time. But don't worry, next week will have us back working on that AND installing the daggerboard case. We hope you enjoy! Much love Jessica, Matt & Georgie We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! Running through the central heart of the Scottish highlands lies a 200 year old canal, designed to provide a short-cut for sailing ships of old from Scotland's west coast to the north sea, avoiding the treacherous Pentland Firth and Cape Wrath. 22 miles of canal and 29 locks were dug to link 3 natural lochs, creating a 60 mile waterway across the country. We're on a voyage through it's charms and scenery, keeping an eye out for the famous Loch Ness Monster and sailing past Britain's tallest mountain, as we take our 11 meter sailboat Florence to 32 meters above sea level and travel 60 miles through the center of Scotland on the Caledonian Canal. For our real time location tracker and extra content, join the crew at www.patreon.com/SailingYachtFlorence We have sailed over 60,000 ocean miles around the world including a complete circumnavigation on our 37ft boat, Florence. After 9 years of experience sailing in the tropics, this series presents a new challenge and a chance to learn new skills as we sail north to the Arctic. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, sailing offshore across oceans and exploring remote locations. #sailing #canalboatlife #canalboat #boatlife #boatlifestyle #canal #canallife #sailingboat #sailingyachtflorence #yachtlifestyle #syflorence 00:00 – Intro Caledonian Canal 01:01 – Sailing to the Caledonian Canal 05:22 – Sea lock and Neptune's Staircase 13:39 – Ben Nevis, Britain's tallest Mountain 16:08 – Canal Life 19:37 – Sailing on Loch Oich 26:18 – Fort Augustus and Loch Ness 32:55 – Engine problem and the final sea lock 38:50 – Next Time Music in order as played: On the Horizon - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Epic Timelapse - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Shared Dreams - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Stepping Beyond - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Still - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Motorhead - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Colorful Island - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Journey Echoes - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Spirit of the Highlands - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Splendor of Nature - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Emotional Strings - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Inspiration - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Be Epic - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced

Wow, just wow! Anima 2 is one of the most beautiful yachts we have ever featured on The Marine Channel, and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was from the early 1900's but this a modern creation by Spirit Yachts, ensuring that the eye watering beauty is matched by performance and comfort. We can't really think of a better way to spend a week in the med, and if you feel the same way you can check out charter details at the following location www.spirit-of-anima.com For more information about Spirit Yachts visit: www.spirityachts.com Huge thanks to the delightful owners who allowed us access to Anima 2, we loved her as much as you clearly do! If you haven't already then please Subscribe and hit 'Alerts' so we can let you know every time a new video is released on The Marine Channel, thanks for watching
We see our boat out of the water for the first time and remove and treat all rust spots on our steel Adams 35. We've never done this before, but loving every second! Next week we'll share the second week of our restorations. See you then! Get daily video updates while we're in Vietnam next week. Join the MJ Sailing Family for behind the scenes looks & exclusive content - https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing Remember at the end of last week's episode when I said that big changes were coming? Well in this week's episode, you get to see the beginning of them! Having put in the second daggerboard case and fuel tank off camera (since there's really no need to see it twice), we get to start building the furniture out in each hull. On starboard side that means our inboard hanging locker, which the back of, is neighboring the nav station up on the bridge deck. We have some changes in mind for this area, and Matt highlights what they are as he measures and places in the floor of the nav station. Over on port side, since the daggerboard case is in, that means we get to bond in the guest shower. Getting the water to flow toward the drain is our most important concern when using our thickened resin to permanently put it down....but in the excitement of it all, I may have left a little trinket forever stuck under the sole in there. : 0 We hope you enjoy!! :) Much love from Annapolis! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
