The Snipe Class has always believed that its future is in the Junior sailors who migrate to the Class. From its earliest roots, the Snipe Class has had the Jr. National Championship as part of its yearly National regatta. Many of the winners have gone on to win National Championships in the Snipe Class and other competitive dinghy classes. In 1939 the Jr. Nationals was won by Stephen Bechtel Jr. In 1968 & 70 it was won by Augie Diaz who went on to win the World Championship in 2003 and the Star World Championship that same year. In 2006 it was won by Tomas Honos who won the Worlds in 2007. Twenty years ago, a new competition started in the Class. The Special Juniors match up a junior skipper with a senior crew. This past year, eleven year old Christian Filter sailing with his dad came in 2nd overall in the Jr. Nationals regatta and won the Special Jr's.

More battling the rain and failed tarping attempts. We are finally getting somewhere though. We "scuffed" the primer up and prepped for paint. We applied 1 coat of bilgekote to the parts that have been primered and things are really startiing to look good. Another layer or 2 will make a huge difference! Bilgekote needs to be applied thinly as it seems to run pretty easily but when it hardens, it feels like it's adding a bunch of strength to it! We are beyond excited to meet our boat Galene, but first we make a stop in the UK to visit with family and friends.

This episode we push ourselves and go out in a force 6-7. The forecast was only set for a 4-5 However as soon as we left the marina the boat was heeling over without the sails up!!! We have not been out in conditions like this before so were nervous to say the least. How much sail do we put up? What if the engine cuts out? Will we get back on our birth? As you are aware we are still very new to sailing, but want to grow our experience and push ourselves to learn and overcome the worries... which we did. We experienced gusts up to 35KTS and a sustained 24kts. One of the issues with the river is the disturbance the land creates.. one minute we have 15kts the next its 25. This is the scary part as we can be set for a number but with it doubling in literally seconds as gusts tend to do it can be quite alarming. One thing the camera doesn't pick up is the water state, we had never seen the river like it with white caps lining the water and mini breaking waves. We had a fantastic sail in the end and were very pleased we did it. It enabled us to feel a great deal of confidence in our boat and our own capabilities. Just shows you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone! He who dares... wins. Thank you for watching Charlie and Carl xx

It's not the first Round Britain Rupert and Alan have co-skippered and it must have been the allure of that long ago dream that brought Alan back, because he'd long ago renounced his racing life and declared himself to be a firmly committed cruiser only. But that was last year. Sueños was launched in 2010 and is herself no stranger to the 2 Handed Round Britain having done it the first time within weeks of launch with Designer Darren Newton co-skippering with Rupert. Rupert and Alan between them are 148 years old and their decades of friendship and 1000s of sailing miles together is clearly paying off well for them so far. They're also obviously concentrating more on the sailing than filming as here we have legs 1 & 2 combined, with many thanks to them both for some stunning footage of Sueños taking it all in her stride.
