In which I pop down to Kemah, Texas (the land that Covid forgot, hardly a mask to be seen), to take some American Sailing Association courses in the hopes that when I actually buy a boat, I can sail it home. I guess the courses were worthwhile, but I took them at the least expensive school I could find in the entire US. They advertised the ASA 103/104 combo as two nights offshore but the 103/104 instructor didn't deliver. Still, my 101 instructor was superb and I gained a lot of confidence on the water. We find ourselves in Quiberon, France. The Quiberon Peninsula is a tourist hotspot in Brittany with around 30 km of coastline. This part of Brittany is known for its beautiful long beaches. However, we only scrape the surface of this gem as we only stop for 1 night before sailing farther south to Ile d'Yeu. In just the short time we have, tho, we discover a little of the area’s cute neighborhoods, art, a fairytale castle and the rugged coastline. The boys, including Anna & Sergey’s boys, of course, found everything to be a new playground! 😉 In their perspective there was much more to explore! …(Alexi plucking figs from tree) Like mother, like son! Back at the boat, all the boys were busy creating their own language called Rikki Tikki, while we adults got ready for the next passage to I’l de Y’eau. As you can see, we set sail before Chiquita – and they passed us up, as usual, BUT – wait and see who wins “the race” (which, any sailor knows – whenever 2 sailboats sail the same way, it’s an unspoken understanding that it’s a race! 😊 ) As you can probably hear – we were sailing against the wind…ideal for us – for speed…NOT so ideal for a catamaran! We were racing along!...and the dolphins love speed and came out to play!! We arrived Ile d’Yeu just before sunset…and BEFORE Chiquita! A first for us…That was a little satisfying, we must admit. What a beautiful passage! Btw – on the way, we discovered that an amazing weather-window to cross the Bay of Biscay diagonally opened up! We decided to skip touring the island and sail on early the next morning. That meant we would have to leave, Chiquita, though – they planned to take it easy with many small stops down the coast of Europe, but our goal was to make it to the Canaries as fast as possible! So, this was our chance! Episode 077 Decision making is continuous. Decisions can be simple such as deciding what to order from a menu. But sometimes they can be more complex. Their consequences and their effects can vary from minimal impact to your daily life, to having major impacts, or sometimes their consequences or effects can be outside of your control. At the start of our sailing journey, the decisions we had to make were relatively quite simple. It started with a trip to Aitutaki where we decided to go on our first ever sailing experience. This led to the decision to buy a Hobie 16, which led to the decision to buy our first keel boat, Eva May, which led to our decision to go ocean sailing, and eventually leading to our decision to buy Tāiko. Once we made our decision to buy Tāiko, our decisions started to become more complex. Please note that it was 3 years ago we moved aboard at the time of making this video, not 4 as written in error. Au retour de cette sortie en mer, nous changeons les nouvelles voiles de Jael, une étape attendue avec enthousiasme. Ces nouvelles toiles marquent le début d’un nouveau chapitre pour notre voilier, que nous avons hâte de voir s’exprimer pleinement sous toutes les allures.
