In this vlog we sail to Cyprus. Cyprus is an interesting island. It is divided into a Turkish and a Greek part. We can only visit the Greek part since no other country (except from Turkey) acknowledges this part. That makes it hard for us to sail from this Northern part to other countries. We stay on the South side. There are not many good anchorages here, but its doable. We discover an abandoned shipwreck near Paphos and we visit a youth cafe from Youth for Christ in Limassol. Since this is our home, we wanted an effective means to clean our clothes, so todays feature of the day is about our laundry room, which in the case of Mira is also our master head (bathroom). We opted to use two quality home units instead of the typical washer/dryer that usually serves to clean clothes well and then just make them dizzy after that. The dryer uses a condenser pump (basically an air conditioning type system to extract water from the clothes without needing a lot of heat and a vent). Vents would allow salty sea air in, which would quickly rust out a regular household unit. Time will tell how they hold up, but they both work phenomenally. For those wondering why two different makes, it’s because they LG had the most efficient and least deep washer option, while Siemens had the highest efficiency and offered the condenser drying method. Here are the model numbers. They are South African 230V/50Hz models. Hopefully similar models are offered elsewhere. Episode 050 We're in Aotea, Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf and so far it's been great. We've so far explored Smokehouse Bay which was just awesome. Our friends have now arrived, it's high tide which means it's time to cruise up a couple of tidal wetlands but we can only cruise up them with Tītī (our dinghy (tender)) at high tide and even then it's shallow. Will we get stuck? Are we about to be up a creek...but with a paddle? Who gets out when you venture into shallow waters? We also stretch the legs with a walk around Kaikoura Island. While visiting Lake Michigan's Green Bay, we sailed south to Fish Creek, Door County, Wisconsin, to meet up with some Danish friends. Door County is a vibrant tourist destination with a visible Scandinavian twist, which is often referred to as the Cape Cod of the Midwest. It's named after the Porte des Morts Passage at the top of the 80-mile (129 km) long peninsula. Porte des Morts translates from French to Death's Door, and its name is generally thought to be a centuries-old warning to mariners trying to enter Green Bay from the open Lake Michigan. After meeting up with our friends at Fish Creek, we took Freelance up through the Strawberry Channel and north of Washington Island to the Point Detour Bay anchorage. Other friends — our buddy-boats Jubilee, Annie B. Stone, and the Moku Hale — were already anchored there. The plan was for us all the leave early the next day for an open-waters crossing to St. James, Beaver Island. Satellite images courtesy of Google Earth.

We arrive in stunning St. Kitts after a night sail from Barbuda. With the sun just rising, we drop anchor and begin exploring this lush, mountainous island. From sipping fresh coconuts in the jungle (with some curious pigs nearby!) to rum tasting and scenic hikes, St. Kitts doesn't disappoint. Then it's off to Nevis, where we anchor near Sunshine Bar, enjoy beach games, paddle ball with locals, and a killer sunset. A highlight of the trip? A magical evening at the Banana Restaurant—hidden in the jungle with incredible views and unforgettable food! Plus, we give a peek into what homeschooling three teens looks like on a sailboat. From botany lessons in the wild to trigonometry, economics, Spanish, and more—learning on the water is an adventure all its own.

Thomas Coville and his time on Sodebo Ultim 3 have just 1,100 nautical miles to go to finish their Jules Verne Trophy record attempt, but Storm Ingrid is standing in their way, with 55 knot winds and waves up to 38 feet high. We take a look at the team on board, the wind picture, their routing options, and the waves they are likely to face as they reach from the Azores to Map of Cape Finisterre, then across the notorious Bay of Biscay towards the finish line between Ushant and the Lizard Point. As a reminder, to set a new record they must finish before 8.31pm (French time) on Sunday 25th January.
