We cruise down the Great Sandy Straits checking out the Ceratoadus and Palmer shipwrecks. While waiting inside Inskip Point for good weather we have our underwater blue lights on at night and a couple dolphins come right up to the back to feed on the fish playing in our light. When the wind, swell, tide and the time are all satisfactory we cross the infamous Wide Bay Bar. We head to nearby Double Island Point to wait the night before diving Wolf Rock in the morning. Wolf rock is comprised of four volcanic pinnacles that are covered by hard and soft corals and is home to the critically endangered grey nurse shark. The Grey Nurse Sharks congregate during October and November at this site, and although diving a few months later are hopeful that we may possibly see at least one shark.

But, when it comes to racing this style of boat under IRC with a full crew of six, Rogerson and his team believe that there is a gap in the market.

After departing Batam, Saoirse makes its way down to Pulau Ranoh (Ranoh Island) and Pulau Kentar (Kentar Island) and get our first look at the local Indonesian fishing industry, including floating fishing huts, traps, and small boats. Taking the Offshore Cruising Tender out, we plunged in for some snorkeling. Water clarity wasn't great, but there was a lot of life. Next, we set out southbound toward Belitung. Along the way we stop at the equator and conduct a little ceremony to mark the first time each of us four crew have crossed the equator on a small boat! You'll have to watch to see the shenanigans! We decided to do a quick move from Salinas, PR to Coffin Island, which is just off-shore from Ponce, PR. We wanted to be in clean water to make more fresh-water and clean our boat hull. Instead of dolphins welcoming us in, it was sharks! Well, nurse sharks, which are very docile and off little concern, but there were 4 circling our boat and the largest is probably about 6' long! Nous avons vécu une belle navigation en compagnie de Bruno et Muriel, en direction du Cap d’Agde. La première partie du trajet a été particulièrement dynamique, avec un vent de 25 nœuds qui nous a permis d’avancer rapidement et de profiter pleinement de la mer. Ensuite, le vent s’est un peu calmé, passant à 15 nœuds, ce qui nous a offert une navigation plus douce et agréable pour la suite du voyage. Ce fut un moment de partage et de plaisir en mer, entourés par la beauté du paysage et la convivialité de nos compagnons de route.
