It’s easy to say that the wildlife in Alaska is something special! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. We get pulled over AGAIN as we make our way into our Marina for lockdown. We're pretty sure having a red boat didn't help us any. And we had quite a far fetched (but true) story to tell. Our Indian Ocean departure is approaching fast, lets get Nandji ready for the task! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ This video was filmed early Febuary before the global pandemic really took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive back to Chalong bay on the south coast of Thailand to comlpete some more boat jobs to prepare our yacht to cross oceans. We only recently left the boat yard in Krabi and after a great down wind sail, we are back to Phuket where we can readily find everything we need to finish off the niggling jobs at anchor. Our departure date is approaching fast and we need to stock up on engine spares ready for the year of sailing that lied ahead. We cruise around Phuket on the scooter collecting the necessary items and complete some of those jobs off the list like painting the bilge in the V-berth, installing harness points and up grading the running rigging on the mainsail. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning as we plan to sail our Nandji girl around the world!! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! PlanetSail crosses 'the pond' to the Big Apple, New York where two major events at opposite ends of the scale were putting pressure on the status quo. The race back across the Atlantic from New York to Les Sables d'Olonne was a crucial one for IMOCA skippers who were yet to qualify for the Vendée Globe. Among them were some of the big rock stars in the class who, perhaps rather surprisingly, were under greater pressure than normal to deliver. And while a transatlantic dash should have been a walk in the park for many of them, the trip back was anything but. With huge splits in the fleet and a wide variety of tactical approaches the New York Vendée was also a clear illustration as to why many believe that the 2024/25 Vendée Globe will be the most competitive to date. Meanwhile, the SailGP fleet saw yet more pressure on the big guns at the penultimate regatta in their 4th Season in New York. The once dominant Australian team are under attack from all sides as a number of teams demonstrated that improvements at previous regattas had been no coincidence. This week we're once again sailing in Thailand on our new catamaran, but we're now going in a different direction, in every sense. We're heading towards an archipelago near the Cambodian border for our next sailing adventure, and it's our first sail in months, after being stuck in the marina for repairs, retrofitting and warranty work. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. In this episode, we set about finishing up our boat work in Spice Island Marina Boat Yard. Adam wraps up the installation of the Bruntons H5 Autoprop and does a thorough test to make sure that the new propeller is fitted well. Meanwhile, Khiara gives the hull a final coat of black making Millie look like a new lady! Our last job on the list before getting back in the water was a quick grease of the seacocks below the waterline and then we should have been ready to splash... except that would have been too easy! One troublesome seacock put a spanner in the works as we noticed that both the inside and the outside of the seacock were turning in the hole... an obvious sign that the fitting was loose and if we had of gone back in the water, seawater would leak straight into our boat! So out the seacock came and our splash date came and went... we were stuck in the yard with a hole in our boat... again! We spent the next few days educating ourselves about the best seacock to replace it with and how to fit it and finally, fitting it and hoping and praying that it wouldn't leak when we finally splashed! A few days later, the yard asked if we wanted to splash that very day... in fact with just an hour's notice! One frantic hour later, the Millennial Falcon was being hoisted into slings as we watched nervously, hoping that she would firstly move, after having installed the new propeller, and secondly, that she wouldn't have any leaks after having installed the new seacock. Just 9 days of being in the boatyard and we were back in the water...a record for us despite our brief delay. After doing a few checks and ensuring we didn't have any new leaks, we headed out to anchor to get ready to... sit and wait!
