Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Heavy Weather Sailing. You can’t avoid heavy weather - squalls and even storms pop up unexpectedly. We once had a Tropical Storm pop up and we had absolutely no warning. So…if you’re going to become a Bluewater cruiser it’s important to know what options you have bad weather strikes. When we get hit with heavy weather or high winds - say above 30 knots, we furl the headsail into the first reef or second. When the weather gets really bad and our headsail is too large for the conditions (even when reefed), we have the ability to furl in the headsail in completely, and then move a stay from the side of the boat up to the front so to use a staysail. So, with our rigging configuration, we can essentially turn our boat into a cutter rig. A rig that has two headsails. The staysail is a smaller sail and can handle heavier weather conditions. Heading into town one night to play trivia with friends, we find there is a shipwreck on the north end of the island, and stroll up the beach to take a look. Lodged in the sand is a Westsail 32 named Ellipsis that had ended up there the night before after encountering some heavy weather between Puerto Rico and St. Augustine. We only had a few details at the time, but knew it was two men and two dogs on board, and although the boat was now meant to be salvaged, everyone on board was ok. The next day the two of us do a little more wandering around town and take a look at the world famous Elbow Reef Lighthouse; the last kerosene burning lighthouse in the world. We also walk through the grounds of Harbour Lodge resort to take in stunning views from their Atlantic coast beach. "voltage times amps equals watts" So either this amp can handle 50 plus volts, or the company is using bloated numbers, I am going to go with the later. This is done throughout all markets, cars and horsepower, or MPG, light and lumens, the list goes on. Consumers have to do their research, you can just look at specs and take their word for it, you have to know how they got the numbers. The Boss amp only has a 30 amp fuse, so this will never make the wattage they claim, but it should make about 240 watts if you do the math. This is still not bad for a 40 dollar amp. The Pyle 6.5 inch sub sounded alright for no box, it had decant excursion, the manual claims 4mm. I hope for it's size it is very capable once dropped in a box. The Pyle sub claims it can handle 300 watts rms and 600 watts max, but the manual says 100 watts. Hope it will live off this over rated amp, but time will tell. We're starting to get into "no gluing season" here in the United State's northeast corner, and so it's important for us to boogie on these elements that rely on epoxy for their success. Pretty soon, because of this closing weather window and in an effort to stay warm as we finish interior elements this winter, we will be fiberglassing the cabin trunk and finishing off these pieces.
